Does Arsenal manager need to splash the cash in January?
by stresster on November 11th, 2008While the Gunners’ 2-1 win over Manchester United has appeased the many supporters who feared that Arsenal’s title challenge could come to an end in mid-November, there are still others who have been calling on the manager to bring some experienced players into the squad come January. Will the Frenchman be doing exactly that?
Setanta reports that Arsene Wenger is undecided at the moment with regard to bolstering the squad, although the fact that he hasn’t ruled it out suggests that one or two new faces could be on their way. Indeed, the Frenchman lamented the fact that Tomas Rosicky and Eduardo were injured at crucial times for the team last season, and perhaps he’ll act to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
“It’s far from decided,” said Wenger.
“We will make a check at the end of December and we will see. We have had many players out and showed we have a great squad that can win the big games.”
Many have claimed that Arsenal need a new centre forward, along with an experienced defender and midfielder to help the young Gunners out. What do the supporters think? Should Wenger make use of the money available to him, or is the team just having terrible luck with injuries which should sort itself out over the next few weeks?

From my opinion, what can bring the best return is to tackle the so-called weakest link. Arsenal’s fire power and creativity is not far from the best in our history, and has a lot potential to grow further. However, it is the defense department that is letting us down. Our wing backs are good & world-class; our centre back are far from the standard of Adam-Keown partnership; goalie is no where near Jennings’ standard. So, if world-class player in these 2 positions are available, we should bring them in. For DM, I feel that if we have a solid back 4, it is nice to have, but not a must.

In a nutshell… Xabi Alonso! anything else on top of that signing is a bonus! I still feel we are missing an out and out goalscorer, however Eduardo looked like he was the guy we were missing in that department, hopefuly he returns back to the form he was promising before “that injury”.

i totally agree with u Gunner-4-Life…
we definately need not 1 but 2 decent CBs… Then we can ask silvestre to pack his bags n go to MLS (Wher he apparently wants to play at some point of time in his career) & Good Old Gallas back to France (maybe teams like PSG are still interested in him)
toure and the 2 new cbs can be rotated regularly…
and yes we definately need a good goalkie…
Wengers tactics of gettin unproven yound talent wil work only wit the midfielders and strikers… when it comes to defenders and goalkeepers composure and experience is a must… tats y things hav backfired badly so far… hopefully we can get rid of almunia, gallas, silvestre n eboue and get good replacements… djourou and song can be used as part time backup CBs…
also somebody like velloso or busquets can be great in the midfield…
in the front we can get huntelaar if we hav t cash… he’ll be a great buy though buyin him wud potentially mean sellin either bendtner or eduardo since chances will be very few for them once he comes…
GO GUNNERS!!!

imo we need to sell adebayour as he is looking like thierry did the season he left. then we need to bring in a solid cm like gattusso but younger Essien would be perfect but that is not gunna happen i see cana, veloso or toure as a good fit. we also need a solid centre back martin caceres would b very good as he is unhappy at barca or mexes who is also unhappy as roma are doing s**t. I do think almunia is good but not arsenal standard and if rumours are true then joe hart is an arsenal fan and as the dubai investors want to bring in buffon then hart would be avaliable. 2 replace ade huntelaar would be perfect until vela starts to play more.
