Manchester City striker fined for going clubbing: He was supposed to be injured at the time!
by offsidetrap on November 11th, 2008 2 commentsAston Villa’s John Carew got into hot water for attending a lap dancing bar a fortnight ago, and now it appears that a Manchester City player has been caught out after attending a nightclub, despite being on the injury list. Is this striker fast becoming a waste of money?
The Daily Mail reports that Jo, the Brazilian striker who has yet to demonstrate why the club forked out £21 million for his services, has been fined by the club after being spotted partying away in a Manchester nightspot, rather than recover from a bout of tonsillitis.
Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has fined his struggling centre forward Jo, after the Brazilian jeopardised his recovery from tonsillitis with a late-night visit to a city centre nightclub.
Sportsmail understands that Hughes chose to discipline the £19million recruit after learning of 21-year-old Jo’s night out in the run-up to the 2-0 defeat at Bolton nine days ago.
Having scored just one league goal since his summer arrival from CSKA Moscow while struggling with the physical nature of the English game, Jo’s first season at City was hindered further when he developed tonsillitis before City’s last victory at home to Stoke just over a fortnight ago.
Aside from the above indiscretion (which was probably a case of the 21-year-old sitting around with his mates rather than having a wild party), do Manchester City supporters think that Jo will be at the club for long? Although it takes a while for players to adapt to the pace of the Premier League, this is not the sort of signing that Mark Hughes might make, and it’s rumoured that the striker might be moved on in January.

21 million?!?! where the fuck did you get that figure from?
Jo cost about 5 million with a string of add-ons to make it up to close to 19million. and trust me, if we achieve whats stated in those add-ons it will be the best 19million ever spent!
and no, it is not rumoured anywhere that he will be out in january.
he has done very well so far, playing the senior striking role on his own upfront is hard for any player. let alone a 21yr old new to the country in the hardest league in the world.
well done Jo, keep it up
