Should Liverpool bring back this £5m former star? Could solve left-sided problem?
by Mr Comfort on November 11th, 2008This former favourite only left a few months ago, but according to this source, his time in Serie A may well be coming to an abrupt end!

John Arne Riise could be set for a swift exit from the Serie A club
Signed in the summer from Anfield, the Norwegian has struggled to make an impact in a Roma side languishing near the foot of the table.
La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that, Riise, Jeremy Menez and Cicinho will be offloaded either on loan or permanently in January to fund a big-name signing. (fansfc.com)
I think it would be fair to say that Andreas Dossena hasn’t been the success many had hoped and, with Fabio Aurelio still pretty much consistently underperforming and unable to find a fellow team-mate with a cross or indeed fire a free kick on target, maybe a move for Riise wouldn’t be such a bad idea? Overall, the Norwegian was a big success during his time at Anfield and it was only a spell of bad form that signaled his move to Roma. Would Liverpool fans welcome a move for John Arne or would it be a step backwards?

Why whould we want to step back?
Bring in Bale!
Beliver in no.19 - November 11th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
Why not!? Ginger is always welcome, it would be fantastic for him and for our left side.
Donavan Ried - November 11th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Never should have sold him
Volts - November 11th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Should bring back Kewell, one of the best leftside players around playing great football now and scoring goals again. L/pool were to hasty in letting him go.
Red - November 11th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Shouldn’t have sold him for Dosenna, who is far inferior. Wouldn’t bring him back because he’s crap.
Red - November 11th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Volts, are you living on another f’ing planet??? bring back kewell????? you dickhed
Steve McMahon - November 11th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
I wouldnt be a big beliver in bringing any player back, but at this point and time I would swap him for Dossena, for a start he would’nt need a settling in period, he’d just fit right in, personall I would also of kept Finnan, but thats another story.
Id love to see us bringing in Bale, but unfortunately I cant see it happening as I think he might be out of our price range.
Ah Volts, I persume you are taking the mickey with your comment about Harry Kewell. Hasty would’nt be the word i’d use.
shawn - November 11th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
I’d take Jeremy Menez from Roma. The other two, not so much.
Steve McMahon - November 11th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
How old in Menez and whats he like, Shawn.
lauta - November 11th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Dossena is crap but two wrongs don’t make one right. Need to look for someone else.
Croco Bob - November 12th, 2008 at 4:07 am
Sell both Aurelio & Dosenna to Bayern Munich to exchange for Philip Lahm. That will solve our left back problem.
Paul - November 12th, 2008 at 5:20 am
Ya, bring riise back home!
Ralib - November 12th, 2008 at 6:53 am
Of course we want him back, in fact it was a blunder selling him in the first place. He’s better than Dossena and can really unleash powerful shots with his left that have left many a keeper picking the balll in the back of the net

Before our team brings in any new players they should forst get rid of the two yankee parasites that killing our team. If what we read is true in the tabloids we are in for a tough ride. Our position at the top is not going to last. Please god save us from further embarsment.

What left sided problem?
R.J. - November 12th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
It is crystal clear to me that J.A.R. was, and still is a far better player than Aurelio and Dossena. I don’t believe that Rafa will bring him back, even though many of us would love to see it happen. I think there was an underlying reason that Rafa sold him in the first place. Let’s not forget that J.A.R. was bankrupt about 2 years ago. Quite some achievement for someone who took home £138000 per month. Maybe we should just read between the lines and say thanks for the memories because there are plenty of them. “That goal” being just one of them.
Gareth Bale is who we should target. This lad has got a sweet left foot, he can defend, he’s got pace, he can cross and he can shoot. Unfortunatelty, none of these things can be said about Aurelio or Dossena.

For 1 kewell is the worst signing in liverpools history!!!!! and im soory but you pricks who think riise is crap u obviously know fuck all about football because he has been a great player for us you only have to look at liverpools top 100 goals ever and you will see alot of riise in there! great guy works hard and is consistently performs well!! made 1 mistake in that chelsea game and sum fickle fans are on his back u obviously aint true lfc supporters and just nobby cunts!!!! bring back riise i say!

Sure, let’s bring Harry K back, then go for Djimi Traore so we could really get the shits every time the ball goes out to the left

yea to score more og. i think risse is a spent force .even roma was club to big for him .he needs to go to relegation threatned clubs where competition wnt be that intense and mistakes wnt be highlighted that much and if he scores every full moon night
Donavan Ried - November 13th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
gg - November 13th, 2008 at 7:42 am ………”yea to score more og.” …….. Maybe we should get rid for Stevie G then?….
Red Rog - November 14th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
Danny Webber
The problem with Riise is not his ability but his brain.
He would run all day in that red shirt and he scored some great goals, but the fact is he is not an intelligent footballer.
Too often he would just wallop the ball forward into no mans land instead of trying to retain possesion.
Furhermore his spectacular goals actually caused him more harm than good in the end, the ammount of times he was blasting the ball towards goal from all sorts of ridiculous angles and distances was getting ridiculous.
riise will always get 10 out of 10 for effort and commitment but he wasn;t clever enough to play the intelligent pass and move football that Liverpool is famed for. he did a decent job whilst he was here and now it’s time to move on!
