Harry Redknapp is eager to land a new defensive midfielder for his squad at White Hart Lane, but he fears former club Portsmouth will block his move for Lassana Diarra.
Therefore the Spurs manager has turned his attentions to Owen Hargreaves, who has endured a torrid time with injuries since moving to Manchester United at the start of last season.
Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be willing to let the England international leave the Reds, and he may cut his losses by accepting an offer of £10million for a player he signed for £17million. (fansfc.com)
Whilst it’s fair to say that Owen Hargreaves has been a big disappointment at Old Trafford, he has shown glimpses of quality when he has been fully fit. Let’s face it, a player doesn’t become useless overnight, and Ferguson did chase after the England man for a sustained period before finally forking out a rather large sum of money for the Liverpool target.
The Canadian-born midfielder could complement Luka Modric in the centre of midfield, but can of course play in various other positions. If indeed Harry misses out on the excellent Diarra, then a move for the 27-year-old double Champions League winner could be an intelligent one. Do Tottenham fans want to see Hargreaves in the club’s colours?
