Carling Cup magic reigns supreme as Burnley down Chelsea at Stamford Bridge: Are Chelsea supporters concerned?
by offsidetrap on November 13th, 2008Ah yes, there’s one of these every year in the Cup competitions. Last year it was little Havant and Waterlooville in the FA Cup; this season that honour so far goes to Burnley, who disposed of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a thrilling 5-4 shootout in the fourth-round of the Carling Cup.
Brian Jensen was the man of the match for Burnley as he deflected shot after shot from the Chelsea firing squad. The Stamford Bridge club threw everything they could at the Championship side; but in the end it wasn’t meant to be, as Chelsea fell out of the Cup before the quater-final round.
Whatever happened to the Bridge being a fortress? True, Chelsea didn’t play a full-strength side, but they did have Drogba starting at striker. They also only a point clear at the top in the Champions League!
So what do you make of the loss, Chelsea supporters? Is it much ado about nothing, or are you concerned for the future of your club after an embarrassing Cup loss at home?

Very worrying for a Chelses supporter. This is the third time where theywere in charge of a match couldn’t score the goal that mattered. The guys that waste so many chances are usually three. Kalou, Malouda and Mikel ( who can’t hit a barn door from three yards.) For top professionals these three are a disaster. If we had finished off at least three open chances at Roma they would have been in the next round in the Cha,ps league. Against Liverpool they had a few chances and didn’t take them, then of course last night there shooting was terrible. Abromovitch needs to pay to get a regular scorer, letting Robinho slip away was a bad mistake.

Chelsea, winning champions league. I wish. But don’t think so. Current Chelsea can handle premier league level. But not European giants. They continuously failed against big clubs. Couldn’t win against unformed ManU at home. Lost to Liverpool at home. Conceded 3 goals against Roma and lost. Chelsea struggles with top level European Clubs. Simply they are not performing well enough for Champions League level. But they will be able to hold on top at premier league table as ManU and Arsenal also having some consistency problems.
