FA set to hand Chelsea striker three-match ban for coin-throwing incident: Does he deserve it?
by offsidetrap on November 17th, 2008Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is probably wishing he would have kept his goal celebration to himself. That little coin he threw at the Burnley fans is going to cost him dearly!
Drogba, who was responding to fans who had thrown coins at him, immediately apologised for his actions, admitting: “The big mistake I did was to throw it back so if someone was hurt I just want to aplogise for it.”
But, last Friday, the FA charged Drogba with violent conduct and, an hour before Monday night’s six o’clock deadline to respond, the striker admitted the charge. A Football Association regulatory commission meets on Tuesday to consider both video evidence and written submissions, and are expected to hand the Ivory Coast international a three-match suspension. (Telegraph)
Well that was a quick hello and goodbye for the Ivory Coast man. He recently returned from injury and now he’s headed back to the bench! Even though he was provoked, Drogba should know better than to interact with the opposing fans during a match. If the match-ban is enforced, Drogba will miss the Arsenal, Newcastle and Bolton matches.
Are supporters fine with Drogba getting a three-match ban for his stupidity?

I think he should be let off with a fine only,it wasn’t his fault coins were thrown at him even tho he went to their supporters after scoring the goal.

The FA issued a three match ban to Carragher when he threw back a coin that was thrown at him. Anything less (or more), than Carra got would be ridiculous and show complete inconsistancey. Same crime same punishment.

Though Drogba was just an innocent victim in the first incident he was guilty of the same crime in throwing it back. The chances of hitting the same person were slim but the chances of hitting another innocent person was high, could you imagine it if it was a child and it took an eye out, ok that is worse case scenario but even a adult getting hit by a flying coin would have hurt a bit. The player lost his head but just like the idiots who throw anything onto the pitch needs to be punished. Take the ban, say sorry and move on.

i don’t think it is due to the coin-throwing only. he also showed his middle finger in national tv. it is a bad message to the children watching there.

No real excuses, he’s wrong and thats it. End of.
But!
I wonder how much longer Drogba will be playing football in England?

its one of those things, u cant win either way if ur a player…u jus av to accept that u cant do things like that , ur an icon to the public n tht sort of behaviour only promotes the wrong message to supporters.
he should be fined and that be the end of it, but clubs have to start cracking down on punishments for complete idiots who go to games only to cause trouble.

Carragher’s red card was stupid, as was his fine, and so too is the punishment of Drogba.
