Manchester City have clinched a £10 million deal for Portsmouth midfielder Lassana Diarra, it has been revealed.
The People says City have beaten Tottenham and Manchester United to the signing of Diarra.
City have blown their rivals out of the water with an £85,000-a-week wage offer and the deal is described as ‘virtually done’.
Under-fire City chief Mark Hughes is desperate to shore up his struggling team with a quality holding midfielder.
Diarra, 23, has a get-out clause in his Pompey deal enabling him to talk to any club who offer £10m.
Ex-Pompey chief Harry Redknapp wanted to take Diarra to Spurs and United chief Alex Ferguson saw him as a replacement for injury hit Owen Hargreaves.
But neither can compete with City’s skyhigh wage offer as the club’s new Arab owners flex their muscles. (tribalfootball.com)
Things have stuttered somewhat for the Eastlands club, but such is the congested nature of the Premier League, that a couple of wins could allay speculation over Hughes’ managerial career at the club. If City have indeed made Lassana an offer he couldn’t refuse, then this would represent a very major signing for the club. Whilst it may not appear as ground-breaking as the signing of Robinho, the likes of Diarra could have just as much of an impact on the club’s future hopes and dreams, and could signal a move in the right direction for the club.
Do Man City fans think that the club can get into the top four within a year or two, or will it take longer to break the monopoly?

It would be a brilliant signing but i will hold back my excitement until I see a picture of Diarra Standing beside Sparky holding up a city Jersey with Diarra’s name and Number……. So, If they do eventually sign Diarra, does that free up Sparky to be able to move Kompany about? Try him in the back four? Ben-Hiam is a bad Mr. Bean inpressionist… He is RUBBISH! Garrido is Soft. Dunne, Richards, Zabeleta and Kompany would make a formidable back line…. They are all rutheless! Hmmmm…..

garrido is ok, ben haim is crap and richard dunne is even worse, when are city fans going to wake up and see what a liability he has been over the past few years. too slow and no good defending set -pieces. player of the year…lol just shows what a mess we have lived with.

Disagree Andy, and you can’t have been watching City that much to think that of Dunne. Yes he’s been terrible this season, but previously he has saved us on countless times and had some superb games…hence voted player of the season, by the fans that have watched him play.
