Newcastle midfielder set to miss eight weeks of the season: And it’s not due to a suspension!

Newcastle midfielder, Joey Barton, has had a rough go of it lately. He’s only been back for a couple of weeks and now Barton is set to go back to the bench once again! Only this time around its due to a pretty serious injury.

Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton will be sidelined for up to eight weeks after damaging knee ligaments in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Wigan Athletic.

Barton limped off the pitch following a challenge with Lee Cattermole just 17 minutes into the Premier League game and left St James’ Park on crutches.

The 26-year-old underwent a series of scans on Sunday and the results revealed he had suffered a slight tear to his right medial ligament.

A club spokesman said: “After further assessment of the scans… he has damage to his right medial ligament and will be out for eight weeks.” (ESPNSoccernet)

Barton was finding his form of late, so it really is a shame to see him go down after Newcastle started playing like a different team with the midfielder in the starting XI. The club will just have to manager like they have all season until he returns.

Are Newcastle supporters concerned about the road ahead sans Barton?
