Wenger linked with a defensive midfielder, who could be had for cheap now or for nothing in the summer!
Arsenal Football Club are said to be interested in signing Julian De Guzman.
The Canadian international, 27-years-old, has been a key member of the Deportivo La Coruna side for the past three seasons, and last campaign he was voted their player of the year.
However, the midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season, and although he is being tipped to sign a new deal at the Riazor, Arsene Wenger is reportedly hoping to lure him to London in January.
The Gunners are in desperate need for midfield reinforcements, after losing Gilberto Silva, Mathieu Flamini and Alexandre Hleb during the summer transfer window.
Wenger is set to offer £5million for De Guzman, and although Depor want to keep him, they know they risk losing the player for free in the summer if his head is turned by the Emirates Stadium club. (fansfc.com)
This Canadian has been compared to a certain Mr Hargreaves for some time now, not just for their shared birthplace but also for their similar styles of play. However, given the Man United player’s recent fall from grace, such comparisons are probably not so advantageous. Wenger is known to be a fan, but whilst he does need to invest in a midfielder or two, I don’t see him moving for De Guzman simply because he isn’t any better than the youngsters who are already trying their best to fill the holes left by the loss of Gilberto and Flamini.
It seems a move for someone such as Yaya Toure is a far more likely option. Do Gunners fans think that Wenger has to invest in the January window, or risk another season without silverware?
