“Aston Villa could finish in the top four” claims Manchester United boss. Can they pip Arsenal this term?
by stresster on November 25th, 2008The Villans 2-0 win at the Emirates had wider implications than Arsenal just losing further ground in the supposed title race that they are supposed to be involved in. The Midlands club are fast establishing themselves as the best team outside the ‘Big Four’, with their goalless draw against Manchester United demonstrating that they can now mix it up with the big boys.
Sky Sports reports that Sir Alex Ferguson genuinely feels as though Aston Villa could be playing Champions League football next term, and it’s hard to seperate them and Arsenal right now. Martin O’Neill’s team now occupy fourth place and Fergie was impressed by what he saw from the team in claret and blue on Saturday evening.
“We had good chances but Villa were really aggressive and determined and really set out to make it difficult for us, playing one up front with Ashley Young joining in as a wide player coming in and then going back out wide,” said Ferguson.
“We handled that well but this game proved that Aston Villa are a much improved side.
“There is no doubt that Villa have got a lot more consistency about them at present and I definitely think they really could be in the top four.”
Aston Villa supporters, do you genuinely believe that you will be watching your team in Europe’s blue riband event next season? Despite losses against Newcastle and Middlesbrough recently, it has been a very strong season for the Villans to date, and there must be several concerned Arsenal fans out there, especially with the Champions League providing such a valuable revenue stream for any club.

The only way that Villa will finish in the top 4 is if they become more consistent. This season they have been beat by Aston Villa yet draw against Man U!!

Yes Villa could get 4th - but then again the spuds could win the league.
So lets all kick Arsenal while they are down!
Let me tell you something…..The Arsenal are at their most dangerous when their back are up against the wall - write them off at your peril.

Currently speaking you would have to agree in as much as villa seem to have more unity and that as much ability can get a team places.but whether they can sustain the pace is another thing.

It’s not looking good for Villa, especially if they keep beating themselves as Dave Stopher has suggested…

they certainly have the quality, and at the moment look like the only team from the rest to break in there. but the thing that seperates the top4 from the rest is their consistency and their ruthlessness with results in the 2nd half of the season.
arsenal have been inconsistent by their standards so far this season, and been frankly awful in the last 2 games, but they are still only 1 point behind.
if the top4 are there or thereabouts come january, there will be no chance.

if arsenal pull it together now, theres no reason why we cant still win the league… if we beat all the top four n stop losing to lower league teams we will defntly be in the top four

gunner your view is an intelligent one! IF arsenal win everything they can win the league! doesn’t that big IF stand for every team in the prem?
I think wenger has done a great job in not “seeing” this all coming. You are holding on to fourth spot with your fingertips and it will be fantastic watching your grip slip.
More Basil Fawlty impersinations from Wenger please, we luv em!

wenger is a victim of his success.fergie had the same accusations levelled at him not so long ago and now look.yes he has made some rank decisions and one of those was not to recognise what was happening around him.however for a team not to compete at the right times of the season does leave him open to ridicule.what would help is getting rid off gallas getting in some experience and leaders players that he can rely on,then you will see a turn around.if not then wenger walk away and let hiddink o such like take over.
