Real Madrid are set to stun Liverpool Football Club with a New Year bid of £15million.
Reports in Spain suggest the Liga champions are keen to take Ryan Babel to the Bernabeu in January, as they look to compensate for the injury to Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The Dutchman, usually a winger but also comfortable in a central strike role, has been frustrated Anfield this season having started just once in the Premier League, but Rafael Benitez remains a fan.
With the Reds said to be looking to offload players to raise cash for their own foray into the transfer market, could they refuse £15million for a 21-year-old who is only on the fringes of the first team? (fansfc.com)
Even though Babel is currently being used sparingly, there is no doubt that he will be a big part of Benitez’s long term plans, such is the talent that the Dutch international undoubtedly possesses. Real Madrid are no strangers to ‘tapping-up’ and, if this is indeed another underhand attempt to unsettle a player, then Rafa will not be best pleased. Even though the Merseysiders could do with some cash, they will surely not sell one of their rising stars. After all if they wanted £15m, they could just offload Pennant, Benayoun and Voronin and surely get more or less the same amount? Do Liverpool fans think for one second that their boss would consider selling?

No way Rafa sells Babel, unless he mixes medications or something. I would sell keane before ryan. Besides what playing time would he get at madrid? Thats a laugh.

He hasn’t impressed much this season, ‘cept for the Man Utd match. But no way in hell would i wanna see Babel leave. You know he’ll come good. Hopefully Rafa doesn’t frustrate him much to a point where he wants to leave. Then again, no man is bigger than Liverpool.

The writer sums this up at the end, if we need the money sell the deadwood not the ones with the bright futures!

Am I the only one who is starting to think that Babel doesn’t have a football brain? I can’t be the only one who was expecting great things of him this season. From what I have seen he has gone backwards if anything. I’m not saying whose fault this may be, could be the player, could be the training at the club, could be the tactics. Whatever, he hasn’t developed like we had hoped.
Obviously he is only young and needs time, but I am starting to worry slightly that, as far as football intelligence goes, our Ryan is a bit thick.
He’s got bags of ability but sometimes his decision making is terrible.
Still I’m sure he’ll come good and we should keep him for atleast another 2 years. Hopefully he’ll come on.

I can see what you’re saying about babel but i think it’s all down to playing time. Thing is if he’s not getting the playing time does it mean he’s not doing it in training??

evening 9torres…you make a good point. if he’s not up to it in training will he ever be up for it? if we can get 15-20 million for him, i’d flog him. he’ll only end up sitting on the bench at the bernabeu anyway.
if he thinks he’s not getting much playing time here, wait til he joins madrid.

Afternoon lads, im a bit unsure about this one, yes we all agree that Babel has great potential, etc, etc, but there is something missing or just not quite right with Babel or maybe it’s the system or Raffa or whatever, but something is just not right.
He has great pace, he has ability to go past players, great power in his shot’s and he is young. But for some reason Raffa is not playing him,
Does this lad have an attitude problem?
Is this another case of Raffa disliking a player for whatever reason?
A dissapointing element of this is that we actually have so good tallented young player that we dont use, and yet we are been linked with more great young potential players that might not be worth a sh*t,
Something is wrong here but I just don’t know what it is, all I am saying is that if Madrid are willing to pay big money for a lad that Raffa is refusing to use for whatever reason then we might have to consider letting this lad go.
Its simple “use him or loose him”

I’ve been trying to work out why this might be. Rafa does keep saying that he needs to work hard in training to get his chance, so he feels he isn’t working hard enough? Also heard that he’s seeing Danielle Lloyd, possibly an indication to the type of attitude/mind set he has? Don’t want him turning into another Pennant.
