Redknapp is apparently all set to make a move for one of the top keepers in the top tier.
HARRY REDKNAPP is ready to turn to Bolton’s Jussi Jaaskelainen to solve his goalkeeping crisis.
Spurs boss Redknapp wants a proven top-flight stopper to replace the error-prone Heurelho Gomes and has toyed with making a move for Newcastle’s Shay Given.
But he knows he faces a better chance of landing Jaaskelainen, 33, even though the Finnish keeper only signed a new deal at the Reebok Stadium in the summer.
Bolton will ask for £7million but Redknapp reckons the lure of a higher-profile club in the capital will help seal a £4m deal. (News of the World)
Yes this could well be the 15th keeper linked with the club in a month, but at least this one has bags of ability and experience. Jussi has a safe pair of hands and is a commanding figure in the box, equally able to pull off wonderful stops as well as dealing with set plays (something Gomes clearly needs work on). The fee demanded by Bolton according to this source may seem steep considering the player’s age, but it would still represent a good deal, as the Finn is still very fit and 33 is still relatively young in keeping terms. Do Spurs fans rate Jaaskelainen?
