Arsenal target Xavi moves closer to exit after Barca baulk at his wage demands
Xavi, the Barcelona midfielder voted the best player of Euro 2008, moved closer to leaving the Nou Camp after the club admitted talks about a new contract have broken down.
There have been more than 10 meetings between Xavi’s representatives and Barcelona about a new deal but there is little sign of progress.
Cesc Fabregas, the new Arsenal captain, would welcome the chance to play alongside his international team-mate on a week-to-week basis. (Daily Mail)
There is continuing speculation regarding Xavi’s continuing career at Barcelona, and the longer this continues, the more likely a move for the one-club man will become. There is no doubting the talent of the Spanish international, and the fact the club is not instantly offering him what he wishes is a worrying sign for the club’s fans. In many ways, he would be perfect at the Emirates and the £22m-rated midfielder is known to have a big admirer in Arsenal’s boss and captain, thus further fuelling a potential move. This one could run and run until pen is put to paper.
Do Gunners fans feel this source could well be accurate, or will the Catalan club finally give in to the players demands?

fabregas04kb - November 27th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
do u reckon we need another attacking midfielder, we need a defensive midfielder like barry or frings
thai - November 27th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
we need veloso! it would still be nice to have xavi
GoonerC - November 27th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
If barca cannot afford his wage demands then we will have no chance.
A defensive midfielder like Thoersten Frings or Jermaine Jones from schalke has impressed me.

Xavi isnt an attacking midfielder. He is like Alonso in that they both play the deep-lying playmaker role.
This move will definately never happen. Wenger wont pay 25m for David Villa so why would he pay 22m for Xavi. Wenger would only take him if he was on a free and didnt want any wages. This story is bull.

“This story is bull” - It usually is from this guy!

Xavi is the type of player any team would want but maybe not what every team needs, case in point arsenal.perhaps someone like senna would be more useful to arsenal o de rossi from roma.

It’s will be great to have Xavi but be realistic we can not afford to pay what he demand……
phil - November 30th, 2008 at 9:46 am
what makes you think arsenal dont have money, we have plent of money
Poor Spuds - November 30th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
We have t money… but its for the share holders and the board members… not for spending it on quality & experienced players…
spending on good experienced quality players & winning cups are all secondary for the board… they don giv a shit abt such trivial issues….
their main agenda is to make money…
