Liverpool Football Club have set their sights on Mathias Jorgensen.
The 18-year-old FC Copenhagen star is rated as one of the best talents to emerge from Denmark in recent years, and he has already been linked with Danish compatriot Daniel Agger.
Of course, Agger has been a huge success in England since his move to Anfield, and it is being reported that Rafael Benitez wants to add Jorgensen to his Reds ranks in the New Year.
Capped at every level from Under-16 to the full national squad, the 6ft 3in ace has previously trained with Arsenal and Newcastle United, yet his future could well be on Merseyside. (fansfc.com)
Many are unexpectedly comparing Jorgensen with Agger, and the link between the two could well give Rafa the edge in the chase for this highly-rated centre back. The giant’s impressive displays for FC Copenhagen have helped the side to a great start this season, where his efforts have helped the club build up a fantastic defensive record, with the side conceding just seven goals in 15 matches. I think this transfer rumour fits neatly into the category of very likely, and will further add to a very talented batch of youngsters coming through at the club.
Who do Liverpool fans feel the club should bring in when the transfer window re-opens in just over a month?

FFS, where did that price tag come from? stop making sh*t up!
red - November 27th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
agree with Steve..it’s too much money for an unknown and we’ve bought too much crap in the last couple of seasons…
we need a bit of experience and the toothless performances against Fulham and Marseille highlight that we’re missing cutting edges at full back, on the wings and up front.

Barry can play in midfield and as a left back
shk - November 28th, 2008 at 5:33 am
Where is the youngsters from reserve and youth teams?I also agree with Steve we need more established players in certain areas. However we have a great reserve and youth team get the teens from there. We need another Gerrard.Carragher ect.The performance on Wednesday was very dissapointing as Lfc fan that was an ordinary display and we should of been punished.

Lets make a move for glen johnson and armand traore/belhadj
Steve McMahon - November 28th, 2008 at 9:01 am
We have too many of these type of lads on our books, the same type of headline for each player, “teen with bright future” “Star in the making” etc, then they go into the reserves and they never materialise, 3.5 mill, right now its a waste of money, as I have said before we have approx 50 pro’s on our books (Massive wage bill) and yet we bring on an ape (Dossena) at full back in the CL. Pls stop wasting money, get rid of at least 10 or 15 so called pros and get good first team / squad players for the present, im sick of hearing about the future, it’s the here and now that is the issue. We have plenty of waste as all LFC fans are aware, we dont need any more. Thanks.
Steve McMahon - November 28th, 2008 at 9:03 am
By the way did any of ye see the 2 full backs for Pompey last night, they had a lad playing “Belhadj” at left full back, he showed more ability in 45 mins of football than Dossena or Auerillo have done all season. He’s not a big name (yet) but god he played well and so did Glen Johnson at right back.

Sorry, apologies, tunnel visioned this morning, I read your post but at the same time I did’nt, if you know what I mean.
9torres - November 28th, 2008 at 9:17 am
Indeed, no worries! don’t think there would be much chance of getting traore, can’t see arsenal letting him go with the potential he has, but imagine how good liverpool would be with those two raiding down the wings??
Steve McMahon - November 28th, 2008 at 9:24 am
A lot better than we currently are, I know it was only one game but both of them have the ability and pace to go past players and create something. This is something we cant do at the moment.

I’ve watched a few of Pompeys games this season and they have been excellent in the majority.

rafa must sell pennant, dossena, hyypia, keane, insua to get amr zaki, gareth barry, wayne bridge, theo wallcott
Spion - November 28th, 2008 at 11:46 am
Red boys,
No one is going to buy Hyppia. Plus it would be shady to ask for a fee for him after the service he has given us. The least he deserves is a free transfer.
Insua has looked good from what I have seen and is only young. Too early to sell him.
Also you are writing Keane off way too early. It’ll take time for him to settle in but I think we are already playing much better football this year and part of that is his movement and link up play, compared to say crouch who lack mobility. I know he has missed a few sitters but his allround play has been good. I think he will net 15 or so this season. He’ll keep improving through the season.
Get off his back.
I agree we have enough youngsters. I don’t have Rafa’s football knowhow but it’s seems plain to me that the only things missing for us are decent full backs and competition on the right wing.
Left beck is the main priority (we are crap here)
Right Wing second (Kuyt is playing well but I think we can do better and use him elsewhere)
Right back third (Arbeloa is no world beater but he is ok -just_

Steve Mc/9torres…have to agree, the pompey fullbacks did look very good last night. I’m not sure about glen johnson though. he was pretty rubbish at chelsea and he still tends to make mistakes. the other lad looked very handy though.
can anyone recommend a player from the england u21 team that we could buy?
Maurice Cotter - November 28th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
I’ll fight everyone on the site…I’ll destroy ye
Knud W. Skov - November 28th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Hey – you are right everyone abt. the youngsters in the reserve-team. Its just that this lad is abt. the same level as Agger when he came to LFC. He has been controlling the defence for a club that beat Celtic, Ajax and even ManU. over recent years. He will walk straight into the first team squad. Of course if he should cost 5-6 mio you could doubt him as a transfer – but for the reported .25 – 1 mio no-one should doubt it as a good buy.
Ryan O'Brien - November 29th, 2008 at 4:40 pm

sell lucas leiva and either one of pennant or benayoun….put some cash to it and try buy stephen ireland or Gareth barry….in January …we could do with getting robbie Keane out ,but who would give us 15-18 mill for this waste of space… and thats how much money we would need to recoup before we could consider bidding for another top striker..Rafa that was some seriously bad business on your behave ….Rafa this is whay you should of done ..lukas Poldolski …probably the second best striker in europe after Torres..for power ,pace and ability both are 24 ..or maybe you should of signed diego of weder bremen…anyways its to late now you fucked up…and with torres almost missing half of our games this year and keane not scoring enough…we have lost the chance to take pionts from some games …we los to spurs not because of our defence ..but because no torres and no one else could finish of all the chances we created ..we should have been 3 -0 up before carra scored the og..and we could do with someone like stephen ireland or Gareth barry ..both can play central or outwide and can create and score goal.. we arent inventive enough when we get close to our opponents box..all hoping Gerard will find torres .or vice versa….like last year ..but with torres looking like he might have an injury plagued season ….we deffo need something new in january …when skrtel comes back ..carra or agger can play left back ..and they can defend which is more inportant then buying wing backs who steam forward…we have a strong central midfield probably one of the strongest in europe.Gerard.alonso,mascherano, we should only have to pass the ball in there and start creating ..its creative midfirlders we need…a jcole..geovanni,ireland,nasri,hleb,etc someone like this…
HisArmbandToldHeWasARed - November 29th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Mark Hughes, you are a fucking idiot, yes? Citeh sell Ireland, why in fook would you do that? To criticize Rafa Benitez after all he has done to improve Liverpool’s standing in the game reeks of glory seeking.
Spion - November 30th, 2008 at 7:00 am
Well said his armband.
There are a load of clueless bastard who claim to be Liverpool supporters. Rafa has transformed us to a position where we are clearly mounting a credible challenge.
People forget how bad we were when he took over from houllier, how much utd and chelsea have spent to get where they are, and that it takes time.
As for Keane. Give him a fucking chance will you. His overall play has been good. he’s missed a few sitters but he has made us play better.
You sound like fucking children. Keanes rubbish get Villa. Get Kaka. Get Ireland. Grow up for fucks sake
I’m sure he’ll be dissapointed he hasn;t got a few more goals but to be demanding he be sold is just fuckign ridiculous. This expectation that players will fit straight in and be flying after 2 or 3 months is childish. It doesn;t always happen like that. He’s a class player, full of talent. Why woudl we want to sell him.
javier_awful! - November 30th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Javier Mach is the most overrated/overpaid player in the premiership. His performance midweek was the worst i have seen from a midfielder since Diao.
He can’t pass and has no composuer. Why play two holding midfielders anyway – other than when play the big 4! Sell him in the jan window and buy barry – midfield and cover for the left backs!
bigrafa - November 30th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
We shouldn’t. Waste money on this guy. We should sell our flops-Dossena,Benayoun,Pennant,Vorinin,Itandje,Degen and Leto for about £25m and buy players who are liverpool standard like- Owen £2m,Bale£10,Elano(swap for benayoun) and Diego £15m
Anfield1892TheGrave - December 1st, 2008 at 3:27 am
It is really easy to speak in retrospect.
But Rafa had all the reason in the world to sign Keane and most of you would have probably made the same decision. An ideal second striker who can create oportunities for torres, allow gerrard more freedom in central MF and contribute 10-15 goals himself. Keane is a prime reason for Berbatov even being on the radar nowadays, even though he still isn’t worth close to 30 mil.
Obviously he hasn’t turned up at the times we needed him but overall he has played well more times than not. If he put that 6 yarder in against Fulham then everyone would be singing a different tune. If he scores 1-2 goals against West Ham everyone will calm down again.
Podolski wasn’t putting in transfer requests during the summer, so don’t even blame Rafa for that one. Next everyone will be raving about how they knew Zaki was a good striker and how Rafa is an idiot for not getting him from Zamalek during the summer, when most people, including myself, haven’t even heard of either of them prior.
Spion is right, has everyone forgotten the squad when Benitez came in? All of Houllier’s new Henrys and Zidanes and el Hadj Diouf….Diouf.
Seriously you are acting like fucking Man city/Chelsea fans “ooo hasn’t scored thirty goals yet so lets get aguero and villa and schweinsteigger and Eto’o, they should be cheap” then when they flop for a week it will be the same story.
And Javier_awful is the prime example, Mascherano has ONE bad game and now he is garbage?…..Oh my god. He is one of the best holding midfielders you will find, period. If you were running liverpool we would be fighting relegation just like spurs, who see fit to replace everyone and their grandmother when they dont perform every waking moment and then they continue to lose because no one has time to gel.
But i guess the ability to fight those childish impulses is what that separates the common man, from the successful manager.

we don¨t need this shit players to liverpool..barry is too old and ireland play like chicks..
Buy diego and podolski….its better for us ..they are more quality player
coggin - December 1st, 2008 at 10:48 am
We have some world class players such as Torres, Gerrard, Caragher, great players such as Mascherano, Alonso and some poor players but with this team we are still joint top of the league (when was the last time we were top in December?) and qualified for the Champions league. Come Jan there will be some new players to strengthen the squad and maybe Owen or Heskey back!! (Not sure about Heskey but Owen for 2 mill would be a good bet)
A win tonight and we are back where we belong, TOP, but we have to be beating these lower teams, just think where we would be if we had won against Stoke, Fulham and Spurs (5 points lost I say)
YNWA
9torres - December 1st, 2008 at 10:54 am
I wouldn’t class owen and heskey as strengthening, we need to address the positions we are weak in.
coggin - December 1st, 2008 at 1:38 pm
9torres
No I agree I wouldn’t call Owen or Heskey as strengthening either, what I meant was that we should be strengthening the side in Jan to continue our push to winning then league AND that maybe one of these two could be coming back, I wouldn’t lose any sleep if they didn’t come back, I feel we have been there done that but if Torres and Keane were to get injured then maybe Owen as a sub would be a possibility, he was a great striker for us and Real, is premiership ready and could be the difference between 1st place and second and that is worth 2 Million + we would get it back when we sell him.
Lets hope that we have a great game tonight and that we are talking about the 3 points ahead of chelsea we are and the 8 ahead of Man U and not how poor we were and how S**t Dossena was again.
9torres - December 1st, 2008 at 1:44 pm
I’ve got my fingers crossed for the same outcome! Would love to have owen sat on the bench or there in reserve when we needed him, but would he really come back to liverpool to sit on the bench? We don’t need heskey, i would hate to see him back at the club because it will just resort to us lumping balls up to him. We are playing much better football now that crouch has gone and keane is working hard and linking play.
Steve McMahon - December 1st, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Coggin & 9torres, I hope ye are right about tonights match, these are 3 points that we should get, but as Raffa has pointed out recently and as we all know, we are not taking our chances and killing games off. Keane and Kuyt are great work man like players but they are not doing what we crave, scoring (and I mean free scoring), we need to score more goals, we are creating enough chances were just not taking them.
Heskey, no, I dont want to see this lad back either and as for Owen, his main focus is country not club, I just dont like the bloke, if we got him very cheap then ok and as long as we are not paying him over the odds wage wise as well.
We need to keep our distance at the top and tonight is a great chance to do this.
coggin - December 1st, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Steve
I want to see some great goals tonight and lots of them (for us of course) lets hope that Alonso, Gerrard or Masch can create some killer passes that Keane or Kuyt can take advantage of and maybe Babel will get a chance to come off the bench and prove why he should be at Anfield.
We need to try and close the goal difference between us and Chelsea (even Manu have a better one) if it does come down to wire and points I don’t want it to end like it did in 88-89 which means GOALS have to be scored.
9torres - December 1st, 2008 at 2:33 pm
You’ve got a point, but i’ll just take a 1-0 and three points! We do need to start scoring but that will come once the confidence is back. Sounds weird but we don’t need clear cut chances tonight, we need opportunities where the strikers don’t have to think as those are the only opportunities that kuyt and keane seem to score from.
anonymous - November 30th, 2009 at 12:01 am
What we need is a winger to play behind the strikers
