Dave Whelan is ready to sanction the January sale of Emile Heskey in a bid to save Wigan from a £4million summer bombshell.
England striker Heskey, 30, has snubbed Wigan’s attempts to hand him a new deal to replace his current contract, which expires at the end of the season.
Liverpool and Manchester City are both eyeing a cutprice swoop for the powerful frontman in January. (Daily Mirror)
Once again Liverpool are strongly linked with a move for a player they spent an incredible £11m on eight years ago! I really do not see this happening at all, the forward may have been in decent form but he is simply not good enough for the club and arguably wasn’t good enough when Houllier invested all that cash in him all those years ago. I can’t for the life of me see how all the hullaballoo over the England man has come from and I wouldn’t be surprised if he stayed at the JJB due to lack of significant offers. Yes the former Leicester man is a good frontman to ping the ball up to and yes he does have the strength and determination to get his fair share of admirers but whichever way you look at it, he simply does not weigh in with anywhere near enough goals, he has managed six goals in his last 40 Premier League starts. Are there any Anfield supporters who would welcome this move?

Actually, we could get Heskey for a lot less and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring and Owen in, but ONLY if they signed short-term deals. However, they’ll both want 3-4 years so I can’t see why we would get either.

You’re absolutely wrong,Rafa is going to strenghen his team by not buying such players, there will be new comers but in places where we lack accuracy and if Rafa is going to bring another striker i’m sure it’s not going to be Heskey but someone who is close to Torres way of playing fooball and lethal also.

Please God, No!
Heskey’s a ‘man of glass’ who is forever injured and seldom scores. Okay, so he can lead the line and hold up the ball, but cast your minds back a few years and remember how frustrating he was the last time he wore the red of Liverpool.
At least Michael Owen will guarantee us goals. He’s the ‘fox in the box’ who would surely have scored at least one goal against Stoke, Fulham or West Ham. For £2m – £4m he’s got to be worth taking a chance on. Come on Rafa, let bygones be bygones and bring St. Michael back.
