Spurs TARGET wants to make £13m UNITED exit: Could Harry snap him up?

Obafemi Martins is looking for a way out of Newcastle in January.
The Nigerian striker is worried by the uncertainty surrounding the club and wants to move when the window re-opens in a month’s time.
The news will alert Tottenham and Arsenal, who would be able to sign Martins for £13million because of a get-out clause in his contract. (The People)
I am not sure if Martins is the type of player Redknapp is after, but this source seems to suggest that both north London rivals are very keen on snaping up the Nigerian international but I am not so sure. The 24 year old former Inter Milan man can be explosive on his day but his form can be patchy and I don’t see him as being any better than the likes of Darren Bent or Roman Pavlyuchenko and certainly not a patch on what already is at Arsene’s disposal at Arsenal. I think he is more likely to end up leaving the Premier League entirely or sticking it out at Newcastle who under Joe Kinnear should avoid the drop. Do fans of either side believe a move for Martins makes any sense?

As a spurs supporter, I like Martins, but I’m not sure DL will want to pay 13 million for him, considering he may not be a huge upgrade over DB. That said, Harry was supposed to be after Yakubu (pre-injury), Zaki, Cavenaghi, and Heskey, and I rate Obafemi above those guys. Then again, I’m no manager, so I could be wrong. We’ll have to see.

Martin is class 13 mill is a good goodprice for a good striker
GAZ - December 2nd, 2008 at 12:20 am
13mil is too much for OM
vincent - December 2nd, 2008 at 3:13 am
how about united give us charles n’zogbia and martins and we give them ekotto and zokora, since united need to beef up their defence tremendously. they could even throw in given for cash
bobbyc - December 2nd, 2008 at 8:44 am
ha ha ha ha keep your 13 million why would he go to a smaller club
EngNor - December 2nd, 2008 at 9:02 am
Dan.
Have you seen anything on Cavenaghi? The guy is pure class and bangs them in on a regular basis. Far better and consistent than OM.
spursfan45 - December 2nd, 2008 at 10:49 am
BOBBYC. Please don’t make me laugh, you prat .
michael - December 2nd, 2008 at 11:51 am
bobbyc, smaller club, dont make me laugh.
bobbyc - December 2nd, 2008 at 12:43 pm
ok guys lets discuss without name calling why you would consider spurs a bigger club than newcastle.
I admit i was wrong to say they are a smaller club but they are def not a bigger club?
Discuss!
canoote - December 2nd, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Bobbyc,
I am a Spurs fan and I would class Newcastle as being in the same league as us, I think we are both going through a bit of a stuggle at the moment, I think we will both survive this season though and grow stronger, as long as we stick to the manager! Your supporters are as bad as us,a couple of bad results and we want everyone sacked
we should be ok with Harry, and I hope you get a good manager and stick with them…but most of all, I hope we finish above you in the league

Bobbyc
Why THFC is a bigger club then NUFC………..
Here is 5 off the top of my head…..
1) History
2) Fanbase of THFC outside of London compared to NUFC outside of Newcastle.
3) More money to spend
4) Value of club
5) No of Trophies won
NUFC atm, just get more in thier ground, ill admit that….but even that will change with the new statudim planned…..we have another 22k+ on the season ticket waiting list, so have no fear we will fill the 60k capacity.
I have 3 NUFC season ticket holders in by street in Blyth and they agree with me.
RayParlourForPresident - December 2nd, 2008 at 1:45 pm
LTY you have slightly contradicted yourself by claiming Newcastle have fewer fans outside of Newcastle and then claiming that 3 NUFC season tickets live on your street?
unless you live in Newcastle doesn’t that slightly ruin your point…
SIze of the club matters very little to be honest, what would make Martins join Spurs is that you are in Europe
I like Martins as a player however I do think he flatters to deceive on too many occasions and doesn’t score enough goals to be worth 13M
this said it could be because he lacks the service he would get elsewhere.
SuperSpurs - December 2nd, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Defo not worth 13M, hes a good player but nowhere near consistent enough, he defo wont fill Berbas boots and doesn’t have the same work ethic as a Keano, not quite as fast as Bent and not as good with head as Pava so why would we want him? If we could get someone like Zaki or Cavenaghi then that would be an improvement, but not OM.
As for BobbyC keep on dreaming mate, I seem to remember having the same conversation with a Newcastle fan when Jenas transfer was mooted a few seasons ago, and look what happened there, same with Given, unfortunately we are a Bigger club, Fanbase (Not stadium size, if land was as cheep in London as it is in Newcastle then we would have a bigger ground already), Ready Cash not to mention location, don’t mean to be disrespectful but would a world class player prefer to come and play in the bright lights of London or Newcastle?
bobbyc - December 2nd, 2008 at 2:25 pm
look martins will not go to spurs because he know by going to spurs he will be booed by the fans if he goes a few games without scoring ( e.g darren bent )
he is better than bent palychevenko and campell we know that .
im not saying spurs are a bad team , i quite like them as a team but do not like the boo boys who booed martin jol which got you 5th 2 years running,
harry is top class though but it will take at least this season for him to get settled with a team,
we are both in same position in league and arent doing great at all lets just where who is after the xmas period then we make judgement on where our teams are going to finish
bobbyc - December 2nd, 2008 at 2:30 pm
super spurs?????are u serious ?
ready cash which is why if yee dont starting winnin asap your goona be the new leeds,
jenas left cause he was hated for his big head and to go to a big team which yee were at the time but not now dont kid yourself.
see newcastle wouldnt want a player who would come to us just for the shops we want dedicated player who love football, not spoilt big headed cunts like jenas, berbatov, woodgate, bentley, come on like admit newcastle and spurs are in the same boat struggling to get into top ten at moment

LOL - im a Spurs fan, who took a job up here……..thought where i lived was pretty clear in the post.
Dan - December 2nd, 2008 at 6:33 pm
I can’t say I watch much French football, so I admit that I know pretty little about Cavenaghi. What type of striker is he? Can he link up and create chances, or is he an out-an-out goal scorer? We need someone who can drop back and create chances for Bent and Pav, not just a pure goalscorer.
To BobbyC, not sure when we have been booing Darren Bent, he is actually quite a fan favorite b/c of his work ethic and respect for the club.

vincent - December 2nd, 2008 at 6:33 pm
well, think newcastle fans and spurs fan can shake hands and make up. maybe, just maybe, the 2 clubs can be so good friends they can be called “The New-Spurs”……just messing around…ignore me
HARRY REDNAPP - December 2nd, 2008 at 7:17 pm
not going to happen. we dont need a striker in january.
top of list is center back and a proper central midfielder. one with big balls and attitude. if not tevez will do

jebote - December 3rd, 2008 at 11:36 am
ron get over your cock … what are you a 13 year old kid who just realised he started growing pubic hair.
your a tool alrite.
benny - December 3rd, 2008 at 3:54 pm
What spurs need is a balanced midfield, their strikers are good quality, the problem is the lack of service. Saying that they also need to bulk the midfield up a bit, I think they need to better balance a midfield that can hold the ball as well as be innovative and create chances, for the forwards. Waisting 13 million on Martins wont fix anything.
LTY - December 3rd, 2008 at 4:35 pm
ron jeremy
Spurs have always filled thier ground, even in the 90’s when things were a lot worse, and with 22000+ more on the season ticket waiting list…well, we will still fill the ground out.. have no fear…
And yes, you have mentioned that you are a huge cock
gurth - December 4th, 2008 at 11:57 am
