Liverpool could then turn to former Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze, who joined Real Madrid just over a year ago.
The former Anfield target has had an unhappy time at the Bernabeu, leading to speculation he will be sold.
Liverpool were willing to pay around £8million when he was leaving Old Trafford, but would only fork out half that now. (Daily Mirror)
This rumour is beginning to get a head of steam with the La Liga side planning on making many changes over the next few months. After two successive titles, Bernd Schuster looks set to shuffle his pack and this has started in earnest with the capture of Klaas Jan Huntelaar and this Argentine full back looks set to leave the club who currently sit off the leading pack in La Liga. Even though Heinze has started most of the fixtures this term apparently he has been earmarked as a player on his way out and of course Liverpool were keen on bringing in the ever grinning star before Sir Alex decided to put at stop to that in the summer of 2007. Do Anfield supporters like the idea of making a move for Gabriel?

I like heinze as a playa cos he’s good or do i say wasss good 4 united, but i think he’s gone beyond his prime i guess,i wld rather advice benitez to go for Mister Gareth Bale,he’s a playa with lots of prospects(promising young lad) & he’s just but 19,20,21 thereabt.

Whilst Heinze would be a good addition and would clearly walk straight into the first team, Emiliano Insua is more than capable of making the left back role his own. He’s a solid defender, good going forward and calm on the ball.
