Yes, another day and another set of expensive players linked with a move to Mark Hughes’s fantasy football collection!
Manchester City are set for a double £45million swoop to land international stars Franck Ribery and Gareth Barry when the transfer window opens.
I can reveal dynamic Bayern Munich star Ribery is top of the Mark Hughes wish-list with Barry not far behind as the City boss counts down the days to the window opening.
Instead of the Galactico names of Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Fernando Torres and Iker Casillas wanted by billionaire Arab owner Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his team, Hughes has compiled a list of attainable targets – and Ribery and Barry are at the top. (The People)
I think this source kind of hits the situation on the head. As discussed previously here on COS, Mark Hughes needs to speak sense to his mega rich owners and pursue players that a viable purchases rather than fantastical suggestions that would never happen. Franck Ribery had a great first season in the Bundesliga but may feel that the Premier League is the place to be and certainly at Eastlands he could secure a far more lucrative contract. Gareth Barry made no secret of his desire to seek a move to Liverpool in the summer but that didn’t happen but the England man still craves Champions League football and he may feel, rightly or wrongly, that a move to Man City would make that dream more plausible than at Aston Villa. Both players would fit in nicely alongside the quality players already at the club. Do Blues fans like the look of these two potential signings?
