News from Spain has indicated that Real Madrid are prepared to offer Liverpool £30 million in hard cash for both Xabi Alonso and Robbie Keane.
The news item which was reported on Spanish radio valued Keane at £16 million and Alonso at £14 million both below Benitez valuation but close enough to test Benitez and the boards resolve.
It is clear to everyone that Keane to date has failed at Liverpool and that Alonso is permanently available and Benitez could do with the money to continue with his purchases none less so than Gareth Barry.
Real Madrid have a huge pot of cash for Juande Ramos the new coach to spend and both Alonso and Keane would certainly fulfil a role at Real Madrid, there is one problem however and this may be enough to scupper any plans this January.
Both players are cup tied for the Champions League and this may prove too much of an obstacle for Real Madrid to overcome, that said if Ramos is allowed to build for the future then the Spanish radio reports may well be true. (footylatest.com)
Now where do I start with this one? Clearly this rumour has come about by putting some constituent stories together to come up with a hybrid piece that is very, and I repeat, very unlikely to occur. Juande Ramos may have joined Real Madrid but would he really consider a move for Robbie Keane, much less a misfiring Keane, when his side has the following strikers at his disposal – Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Ruud Van Nistlerooy, Raul and Higuain. Given that the La Liga side has managed 33 goals in 14 matches its fair to say that the main problem they have is at the back (they have managed just one clean sheet in domestic action this season). Xabi Alonso may be a different kettle of fish altogether, Rafa showed in the summer that he would consider selling the Spanish international but the midfielder has impressed this term, however I think Benitez has re-thought this strategy and sees Xabi as part of his long term plans. Do Liverpool fans think that either player would be sold anytime soon?

Why fix it if it’s not broken, we are at the top of the table in both domestic and europe so why start messing about with a winning team. Fake Madrid are a team of the past and now there are a few teams who do have money they don’t look too hot anymore, as they always want to cash in on other teams end products. They are so bad they had more managers than players over the last couple of seasons. Money doesn’t always bring succes or happiness.

Not going to happen, as you say it’s a 0/10
Keane may not be finding the net but he will come good and also why sell at 16m when Harry wants to give us back what we have already paid (also unlikey) As for Alonso keep him till the summer before making any rash decisions we need him to continue our push for the top spot this year.
Great player so why sell him at a low figure, if at all.
redeye - December 12th, 2008 at 5:58 am
straight swap keane for pavluchenko. sell alonso buy barry. keep agger.
we might be top of th table but how come we all feel so bad about it ?!
” the king wears no clothes but catches no cold” even rafa feels it…….

Real can take keane if they want but alonso no way….he must stay to liverpool as he is a great player and very important to the team…

yeah sure why not ? sell them for 30 mil. but only if heinze is a part of the deal

Another waste of web space. You write some crap, go get a job and leave the reporting to the professionals
9torres - December 12th, 2008 at 9:13 am
Ramos has no money, he is only on a 6 month contract. Why throw away 30mil only for the possibility of a new coach coming in over the summer to get rid of them and bring his own players in??
Steve McMahon - December 12th, 2008 at 9:29 am
Maybe for once I actually agree with you 9torres, it would seem a bit silly for RM to sanction the spending of 30 mill on the say so of a part time coach,

I think we should go for width in ashley young.he was like gerrard against everton.
Muerto - December 12th, 2008 at 11:04 am
That’s realistic like… S. Ramos and Raul in liverpool FC for 10 m.

Yes I know, but if Harry takes him back for 10m and waives the other 10m it’s quits so we are no worse or better off, now if we take 16m from Real Madrid we would need to give spurs the remaining 10m meaning we are down 4m so it is a better deal to allow Keane to go back to Spurs, which I don’t think we should do but Rafa is the boss so he gets to decide.

Never going to happen. Why write these web posts if the writer himself says there is a 0/10 of it happening.

Alonso has been one of the best/ consitent players this season so 20M + atm. I still have a feeling that Keane will prove to be worth the money spent on him. Keep the faith. Rafa is.

And then rafa took charge at madrid and ramos went to liverpool and they all lived happily ever after.

He needs to get his act togeather and fast or he may well find his dream over long before he thought, the guy can score goals he is proven but not yet for Liverpool, we want him to suceed because he is a nice guy but if he can’t then Rafa needs to sell
Enjoy the Hull game

To be fair to keane it has not helped that torres has hardly played this season if he had they might be flying by now.
One week he plays as out and out striker then in behind then not at all.
One week its with kuyt then gerrard then ngog he has no time to create an understanding with any of them.Get torres fit and playing every week with keane and then lets see.
Donavan Ried - December 13th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
SELL,SELL,SELL….. There are better players to be had out there.. Keane has had little to no impact since arriving from Spurs and as much as i like alonso he offer very little in the way of a attacking threat going forward (as envident against West Ham)……. Lukas Podolski ( for the wayward Keane) and Bastian Schweinsteiger (For Alonso) would offer us better attacing opsions and a greater goal threat. And we would be able to get Podolski cut price (£12-16m) while Schweinsteiger we should be able to get on a free, leaving between £14-18m to spend on a decent left back
Alan - December 13th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
where do you get these figures on how much we have to sped on players in the transfer window?
Alan - December 13th, 2008 at 2:53 pm

LeonKewell - December 13th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
this news absolutely not true…its been created to get fans attention only…
btw, real madrid is only damage player future…every season they went change lineup with big player…they hav money but didnt have bright chances 4 some great players…different with liverpool, lfc is a great club.they always produce a great player…lfc use money very carefully………..so,keane and alonso didnt have reason to go real madrid.both are for thereds forever…………

“I hope your right but I doubt it.”
Afternoon coggin, I did’nt see the match but by all accounts is seems to be business as usual when it comes to so called lesser teams at Anfield, defensive formation etc, etc, muck.
With regards to Keane, I just fail to see how he fits in, I really do, and by all accountants this morning on the radio, it appears that the Lennon & O’ Hara combination deal is doing the rounds again, stronger than ever, and personally I would jump at the chance of getting lennon and just put Babel up front, and move on. Put the whole Keane thing behind us.
9torres - December 15th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
I know we are crying out for a right winger but if we have Babel and he doesn’t play then why would lennon? If you think how prolific Keane and Berbatov were, think how good Keane and Torres could be…
Steve McMahon - December 15th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Yes, but I am basing the system on what Raffa is currently playing, 4 2 3 1, how will Keane work, with the best will in the world, he is not strong enough, physical enough or quick enough to hold his own up front.
Coggin - December 15th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Steve McMahon
I managed to catch the extended highlights on Sky and after listening to the opening minutes on the radio earlier where they said we were all over Hull and they couldn’t get out of their half I was looking forward to a great game, it was a great game it just the score was poor for us, their first goal was good but the second a rare mistake from Jamie, we peppered their goal we just couldn’t find a player in red or the back of the net. I agree with some of the above that Keane should have played but Rafa picks the team and that’s that.
9torres is right keep keane we don’t need to panic and sell him, unless Rafa has a very special Ace up his sleeve.
We need the 3 points against Arsenal, we can’t slip up again we are lucky the others did like wise.
9torres - December 15th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Im pretty sure that when Torres is back we will revert to:
Reina
Arbeloa Carragher Agger Dossena
Gerrard Alonso Mascherano Riera
Keane
Torres
with Kuyt in for Alonso and Gerrard moved inside.
Dossena will have more protection and we will be a whole lot more attacking.
Steve McMahon - December 15th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
I cant see Raffa leaving Kuyt on the bench, I just cant see it, aparently Kuyt had a mare on Saturday and Raffa still left him on the pitch, Raffa really likes / rates Kuyt, and I can see him still using the 4 2 3 1 system even when Torres is back, for the simple fact he likes to play a defensive set up and he can play Kuyt RM, e.g. 4 DEF and 2 CDM, id nearly put money on it. Especially when after xmas, things are tight at at the top, we will be on the descent of the league, it’s just hard to see Raffa becoming more offensive then. What do you think?
9torres - December 15th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
Yeah he did have a mare, just couldn’t get it under control and when he did he slipped over. Possibly he will drop Alonso and play Gerrard as the more attacking of the DMF’s and then play Keane just off Torres as Gerrard is supposed to.
Steve McMahon - December 15th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
I surpose we will just have to wait and see.
LeonKewell - December 16th, 2008 at 3:00 am
benitez formation is more defensize…he like to used both alonso and mascherano in center.i think, benitez should used RM Pennant to raise more offensive tactic…pennant is a good right crosses.i hope that rafa did not sell him this january.it is okay if pennant stay at the bench but plz dont sell or go…
