This player needs to find a new home if he is to make Capello stand up and notice so perhaps a move to rapidly improving Tottenham is the way to go?
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has identified Blackburn defender Stephen Warnock to solve his problem left-back position.
The former Liverpool man would cost about £5million and would go straight into the first team.
Tottenham have played both Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Gareth Bale on the left side of their defence this season, but neither player has impressed.
Redknapp’s pursuit of Warnock raises serious doubts over the future of £6m Wales international Gareth Bale who has yet to play in a winning Premier League side for Tottenham.
Bale started his White Hart Lane career in fine form, but a foot injury picked up last December ruled him out for the rest of the season and the 19-year-old has struggled to regain his form since his return.
Blackburn boss Paul Ince is tracking Wolfsburg’s German international left-back Marcel Schafer. Although Ince would only move for 24-year-old Schafer if Warnock joins Spurs. (Daily Mail)
I can see where the Daily Mail has gone with this and it kind of makes sense. Gareth Bale is a quality player who hasn’t been in the best of form when fit this term but still clearly one for the future whereas Assou-Ekotto has apparently made it clear he would be very much up for a move back to France and therefore a move for Warnock could be a wise one. The former Liverpool man has been one of the standout players at Ewood Park in the last 18 months (along with Roque Santa Cruz) and he would surely jump at the chance of jumping ship given Paul Ince’s sides rapid decline and if Redknapp could get the England international for just 5m then it would be a bargain. Do Tottenham fans want Redknapp to invest in Warnock?
