HARRY REDKNAPP is ready to make an astonishing double swoop for Michael Owen and Joe Cole.
The Spurs boss can exploit the uncertainty over Owen’s position as soon as the January transfer window opens.
And he has earmarked Cole for next summer after the England star’s contract talks were put on ice by Chelsea.
Despite Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear’s desire to keep Owen until the summer when he can leave on a free transfer, Redknapp believes a £4million bid would be enough to tempt the Toon.
The England striker will be offered a three-year deal.
Redknapp was alerted last week when Chelsea confirmed Cole’s contract talks had been put on hold until the summer.
The Spurs boss would love to do business this January but is realistic enough to know Chelsea are highly unlikely to let one of their star assets go midway through such a crucial season.
But Redknapp reckons he could capture his man for a cut-price fee of just £4m in the summer.
And Cole’s wages would not be a problem as the Chelsea favourite is surprisingly not one of the Blues’ big earners.
A Spurs source said: “Harry loves the way Joe plays and can’t believe Chelsea are running the risk of losing him.
“It is behind the striker where Harry sees him for Spurs — given a licence to thrill.” (News of the World)
Well this would be both an impressive and bargain double swoop but could it happen? Well Michael Owen looks very likely to leave Newcastle and his boss has more or less given up on getting him to sign a new deal and therefore you would expect the club to either opt to lose him for nothing in the summer or try to get some cash in January, however given the lack of effective firepower at the club they may decide to keep him for the impending relegation battle. Michael could work well as a foil for either Roman or Darren but that would depend on whether Harry wants to change the way his side plays and given his success since he arrived at White Hart Lane then maybe he wouldn’t want to change things too drastically. Chelsea will surely not want to lose Joe Cole and I fully expect them to seal a deal with the winger to keep him at the club and I don’t see him being a target that Harry Redknapp will be looking at too seriously also with Lennon and Bentley giving the width to Spurs they do seem like an impressive side going forward so not sure a winger is what the club is looking for. Do Tottenham fans want either of these targets?

Harry sees Joe Cole playing behind the striker, does he? What, you mean like where Modric plays now? I don’t think whoever made that story up has really thought it through.
