David Bentley is a shock target for Manchester City after Mark Hughes convinced his Eastlands bosses that the Blues need more Premier League know-how.
Hughes has been given the go-ahead to bring Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz and Portsmouth midfielder Lassana Diarra to the club after telling City’s billionaire owners he needs to reinforce his squad with players already accustomed to the English game.
Now Bentley is also on the City manager’s radar after he was made aware that Harry Redknapp is willing to sacrifice the England midfielder to raise transfer cash of his own.
Redknapp is a big fan of Shaun Wright-Phillips – but was told there was no hope of engineering a swap deal with City that included Bentley.
Now Hughes will be offered the chance to buy a player he managed at Blackburn for the £15million it cost Spurs to purchase the midfielder in the summer.
City believe that they have both Santa Cruz and Diarra in the bag.
And the Blues have not given up hope of landing at least one marquee name in January. (Daily Mirror)
Now this would be a cheeky move by Mark Hughes. Many have speculated that Redknapp would be content to sell Bentley in order to raise funds but I don’t see that happening. Whilst the former Blackburn Rovers man hasn’t been spectacular he has been improving of late and is clearly the type of player who at his best could be key to the clubs push up the table. Do Tottenham fans think that the England man has been a good buy or would they welcome the sale of the playmaker if it meant someone else could be brought in?

There isn’t any chance of bentley leaving the lane because he is getting in the team every game and he has been a tottenham supporter all his life and that’s why he came to the lane in the first place if you remember
