Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has written off Arsenal’s chances of mounting a challenge for the Premier League title this season.
Ferdinand, 30, believes reigning champions United will face a three-way battle with Chelsea and Liverpool.
“I presume us, Chelsea and Liverpool will start pulling away a bit after Christmas,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“It’s not beyond them (Arsenal), it’s just my personal opinion that it will be between us three this season.”

Whilst it may well be Rio’s personal opinion one has to wonder why he has bothered to open his mouth about it? Arsenal are only eight points off the top with a game against leaders Liverpool coming up so it’s by no means over for Wenger’s side and lets remember they are only 2 points behind Man United (albeit with a game more played). Clearly Ferdinand has learned something about mind games from his boss who is of course a master in such attacks. If Rafa’s men lose at the Emirates, which wouldn’t be a big shock as the Merseyside outfit have only won one game in their last four games, all of which were eminently winnable encounters. Arsenal have managed to up their game for the big battles and they’re supporters will be hoping for a win to prove the club’s doubters wrong. What do Gunners fans think about Rio’s comments? Are they fair or just a needless bout of verbal sparring?
