The Serie A giants reckon they can take advantage of the financial uncertainty at Anfield and sign both players next summer.
Juve tried to buy Kop flop Babel in 2007 before he made his £11.5million switch from Ajax.
The Dutch winger has never lived up to his billing in the Premier League, but Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri believes he can be a success in Italy’s top flight.
Defender Agger, 24, is in a stand-off with Liverpool over a new contract – and has also attracted the interest of AC Milan as a replacement for ageing Paolo Maldini, 40.
In turn Reds boss Rafa Benitez is tracking Hull defender Michael Turner, 25, along with Manchester City.
But Tigers chairman Paul Duffen has issued a hands-off warning to Liverpool and the Eastlands side.
He said: “There are no players who have regularly played in the first team who will be sold in January.” (Daily Miror)
Both Agger and Babel have had periods of irritation with regards to Rafa’s decision making. The Dutch winger has apparently voiced his concerns about not getting enough first term action but he would be better placed taking into account that without his involvement the side is top of the table so not sure what he expects Benitez to do? Ryan is a quality player but until he can be more effective and consistent he won’t be getting a regular slot in the team. As for Daniel Agger, well he has had some serious injuries to contend with but still seems to be part of the boss’s plans. I don’t see the club considering selling either player and if the Spanish supremo wants to get more funds to help him finance January transfer moves he is more likely to try to offload the likes of Pennant, Voronin, Itandje, Dossena and Degen. Do Liverpool supporters believe either Babel and Agger will be leaving the club anytime soon?

I am sad because I simply cannot see Agger staying beyond the transfer window in January.
He can not at all be satisfied by the prospect of being the fourth-choice among the center backs. And quite frankly, I don’t understand Rafa – Agger is a player for the future, while Carra and in particular Hyppia are not. Why not give Skrtel and Agger a run now and then? After all, Carra has presented a little nice selection of mistakes this season as…
As things stand now, though, it seems obvious to me that he will leave soon.
9torres - December 18th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Wouldn’t want to see either leave, If anything they should both be given a hell of a lot of game time. Will be interesting to see who Rafa starts with against Arsenal. I think Agger will get the start but i unfortunately I can see Babel on the bench though. I hope he gets the start and gives the gunners a taste of the ‘Henry’s’ that we all know he is capable of doing. All it takes is a big performance against a big club…
Steve McMahon - December 18th, 2008 at 9:28 am
Morning 9torres, who will be 1st choice CB pairing when Skyrtel comes back?, personally I think Raffa will pick Carragher and Skyrtel, and I cant see Agger been too happy with that. It would be great if he played all 3, but somehow I doubt it.
With regards to Babel, I just think this lad dosent fit into Raffa’s little nest egg of “yes sir” type players, personally I think he will get pissed off with Raffa and leave, one way or another, hope I am wrong, but at the same time if Raffa is not going to play him then we are better off to sell him for 15 mill approx and get a player that he will use.
To be fair there seems to be a few little issues when you look at the big picture that revolves around Raffa and his style.
Larry - December 18th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Babel won’t be going anywhere, that is unless Bentiez keeps him as a bench warmer for the next 18months… then he’ll go, be considered a flop, and be sold for a fraction of what we paid for him. I personally think he’s ready to be part of the first team week in week out but its good old Rafa’s complete and utter lack of ability to nurture a talent which is stopping him from progressing.
I would expect Agger to be off in the summer if he doesn’t leave in Jan. Big shame, he’s a talented lad, and he chips in every now and then which is more than can be said of any other liverpool defender of recent years. But i suppose theres no doubting that Carra and Srktel is our strongest partnership so what are you gunna do? I’d give him a run out at left back, not his favoured position but if you look at Carra’s career, you can always move into the middle and make it your own in time. A back four of Agger, Skrtel, Carra and Glen Johnson would be a solid looking backline for the rest of the season if you ask me.
RayParlourForPresident - December 18th, 2008 at 11:00 am
why are you lot still playing Hypia over Agger?
Caragher clearly earns his place every minute he is on the pitch but in Skrtel and Agger you have two of the most promising defenders in the premiership, in Hyppia you have a player who is, at best, past his prime.
Babbel is a quality player, he tore us apart last season, Rafa pays 20M for a 29 year old striker from a mediocre club who scores a goal every 7 games and won’t play arguably one of your most potent threats…..
I personally hope he goes, I don’t like you having him in the squad because of the moments of genius he can create.
I’m sure we’d take him off your hands, partner him with Walcott on each wing?
kevin - December 18th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
True Red fan from Abuja, I absolutely wanna go with you Liverpool fan from Denmark, it hurts me so much to see this happening to Agger, but i would like for him to be patient,as Hyppia is aging day afta day, as he’s also not included in the Champions League squad, @ least he’s ur country man, convince him to be patient with Mista Rafa,it’s just a matter of time and he will see himself playing again.

Having Babel just sat there on the bench is like have an Aston Martin in your garage and still using your mini, just doesn’t make sense.
Rafa continues to confuse all of us with his selections and not playing Babel is a big one, god only knows what the poor boy does in training not to be given a chance. The Agger problem should just be a big resounding NO!!!, how can we, a big club with a chance on the league be selling a player that good, if Rafa wants to sell then it needs to be at least 15m or maybe a player exchange.

Yeah, good shout Larry. Johnson is fast and can cross a ball.

carragher right back
agger and skrtel central and arbeloa left back
thats liverpools current strongest back line
arbeloa is right footed but plays better at left back than at right back, he has marked both messi and ronaldo out of games in this position
Anonymous - December 18th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
totally agree with the babel on the bench being like an aston martin in your garage and driving a mini comment, could not have put it better myself
...5 times - December 18th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
babel isnt a flop. not by a long shot. when he plays he good. scored against aresenal, chelsea last season – allbeit off the bench. he also scored the winning goal against united. he deserves a chance imo.
i dont see why people expect him to be an amazing player when he dosnt play!
do people who write articals like this watch the games?
not going to happen
why write the article?
pointless

they r both pure class the future of liverpool
red - December 18th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
evening all…
i agree with most of the comments here. we should definitely keep agger as he’s awesome. why rafa picked hyppia ahead of him against hull is beyond me.
babel is a bit of an engima…for me, he blows too hot and cold. i appreciate he hasn’t had as many games as he (and the fans) would like, but at the same time, it’s got to be two-way and I don’t think babel tries hard enough.
listening to the pundits on city radio and reading the press, the journos think that he’s not trying hard enough in training and therefore doesn’t merit a starting place.
it would be a shame to lose him, but then again, if someone is willing to pay silly money for him, then we should sell him.
personally, now that mourinho has gone from chelsea, I’d like us to go for joe cole, who would be great on the left and he can play just behind a striker.
John - December 18th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Keep Babel and Agger. Sell Dossena hes shite buy Johnson who portsmouth might sell in jan transfer window. Sell Pennant and draft in reserve player as back up for babel.

Give Babel a go at striker with torres 4 a couple of gamess
Sell Robbie nd buy Quaresma haha
Shailen from Mauritius - December 19th, 2008 at 4:30 am
I wish Babel has more play time as he demonstrates that he is very very fast and technically also he isn’t that bad. Against teams who like to play foward like Arsenal Babel is the man to put forward against them. With the eye of Gerrard or Alonso who can deliver great balls in space, Babel can be deadly. He needs to score more but he doesnt have to prove his talents as we all know what he is capable.Im very confident in him. Agger ..hmmm nothing to add as Juventus manager Claudio wants him to replace a MONSTER “Paolo Maldini” … This phrase tells everything.
But i have to admit that Liverpool, even if Im 1000% Liverpool fan since born, needs some more world class players in defence, on the right winger and a center forward so that to cop with all the Cups, mainly European + Premier League.
Well i wish you all a Merry X-Mas + a Happy New Year
Steve - December 19th, 2008 at 9:51 am
I’d hate to see either Agger or Babel leave as they are both good players. Agger hasn’t however played very well since coming back from injury & it will take time for him to get back to full fitness. Hypia has been excellent when he’s played. I don’t understand why Rafa keeps playing Babel on the left. He had his best game of the season against PSV while on the right & looks far happier in that position. Babel has pace & power but we never try to utilize it with our style of play. I’d like to see Babel given a run of games on the right, or else up front with Keane while Torres is still out.

I think LFC should keep Babel n i agree that to give Babel a shot on right hand side as striker alongside Torres and Im sure he will prove his pure talents. Keane… quite disappointed by his lack of goals n more frustrating to see those couple of misses from close range :@ Of course Rafa paid 20m £ for him as for that same sum LFC could have landed Quaresma or Aston Villa’s captain G.Barry!!!!! But lots of respect to Robbie Keane though.
math.se - December 19th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
agger at leftback, carra, Skrtel, arbeloa or dossena, and then buy michah richards from man city, the first move rafa should make, is 2 swap pennant vs lennon, that is an awsome deal, then sell voronin, keane, Yossi Benayoun, Fabio Aurelio and dirk kuyt, dont sell xabi and babel, try 2 get villa and silva, villa and torres up front, can it be more dangoures up front?
viva la liverpool!

CAN I ACTUALLY HAVE A REPRESENTITIVE FROM THE F.A speak to me to understand the rules of the game, u bring in rules about NOT SURROUNDING THE REF, THE ATTACKING PLAYER IS GIVEN THE ADVANTAGE……….A united players can suround the ref and say what the hell they like when it ain’t going there way………….yet get away with it……. wigan, bolton, anybodyelse players are booked……… offside rule, get a grip F.A, i read the rules as a kid that u set, if it(the ball) comes off an opposing player(i.e the keeper to the striker) its game on unless its united????? UNITED WASN’T STATED IN THE RULES……YEAH UNITED MAKE YOU MONEY,,, BUT IT AIN’T THEIR LEAGUE
