Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are plotting a stunning January raid on Anfield says the Daily Mirror.
Harry Redknapp is looking to add more flair to his White Hart Lane squad in the New Year, and the Daily Mirror believe he has set his sights on Ryan Babel.
The Dutch international is becoming increasingly frustrated with his lack of first team opportunities at Liverpool, and recently asked Rafael Benitez for a return loan to Ajax. (Liverpool Daily Post)
Ryan Babel has voiced his displeasure of late about not getting enough first team starts and recently his cameo performances from the bench have been far less incisive than last term and this has of course led many to believe he could leave the club but I don’t see Rafa considering a sale of such an obviously talented player. Spurs would of course love to sign the Dutch wide man/striker but I think Redknapp knows that making a move would be pretty pointless and hopefully the youngster appreciates that given that the Mersey outfit is currently top of the table it is clearly a sign that Benitez knows what he is doing! Do Liverpool fans feel that Ryan will be an Anfield hero of the future or is he doomed to not fulfill his potential?

he’s a great talent, with great potential…i just don’t see him being in rafa’s long-term plans…especially as he plays out of position all the time.
i’d like to keep him, but if we do sell him, then send him on to the continent and not another premiership side

if we sold him for 9m we’d loose money, can’t believe you don’t research before you write these articles

i back rafa 100% with the decisions he makes in games and off the pitch. after all he is in charge and knows more about his squad than any other person. period. however. you just have to wonder if he has a ‘plan’ for the second half of the season which involves babel being played more often. after all. rafa has dropped his rotation policy but maybe he would still like players to be fitter than others so he can use them more often in the second half of the season. maybe he wants ryan to develop more of an appetite for first team football so that when he plays he gives 100% regardless of circumstances. all i know is that babel is a superb player. and i doubt thtat rafa doesn’t know that. we won’t sell him. but unless he starts getting more game time. he might want to be tranfered. and no-one likes an unhappy player in any team.

Rafa wouldn’t be able to spot a talent if it came up and pulled on his plonker. I think, by the end of Jan, I will have reached the end of my teather regarding his piss weak efforts in the transfer market .

Good Babel is pants!

Got to agree with Larry and ace here. think i mentioned it a week ago…it’s seems as if a third of Rafa’s signings come off and the other two thirds are just crap…
the problem is, we’ve had souness, evans, houllier and now benitez waste hundreds of millions of pounds on crap players. at the same time, arsenal and man utd have only bought a fraction of the crap we have…
yet, between them they managed to get world class players like bergkamp, ronaldo, henry, overmars, viera, ferdinand, vidic, etc etc etc while we were pissing away a fortune on diao, diouf, cheyrou, biscan, baros, babb and all the other shit

Babel is undoubtedly talented but am not sure of his attitude. I was at the game Sunday. He came on just after Arsenal went down to 10 men and when we needed width to stretch and tire them he either sat too deep or switched inside looking for the ball. Gifted but maybe too selfish like a lot of technically great dutchmen. When Stevie bust his lungs breaking from halfway into the box Babel just trotted along watching him.

Why is Babel, Agger and Alonso in danger off leaving my club!! Could write a million reasons why the should´t, but it´s Rafa´s decision. Fulham, Stoke and Hull is a good example, that explains why we need these players. Why do we want to skip off, the best ballplayers we have, and in Babels case, also the fastest. No No, lets buy Barry, donkey Heskey, Hangeland!!!!???. Get your head out of your ass, Rafa!! and buy som players who can change and win games. And if you would be so kind to offload, Pennant, Lucas and last but not least Dossena!!! That slow chubby italian costs us everytime he enters the field…. YNWA

babel is pure class please play him on the right he has a great cross pace to burn is strong and can finish majestically for gods sake the title is ours for the taking make him our regular right mid
Donavan Ried - December 24th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
If Rafa was to sell Bable then we should give Rafa the push…….. This guy is a massive talent and Rafa needs to start playing him more regular. Keane can never do the job up front that Torres can, But Ryan Bable could go very, very close to doing so. If Rafa was to play him up front then i would rate our chances of winning the title a whole lot more than without him there
