Real Madrid are trying again for Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant.
Pennant had priced himself out of a move to Madrid on Thursday, but Sky Sports News says Real have made a new push for the winger.
Pennant has made just four appearances for Liverpool this season and it appears he does not figure in Rafa Benitez’s long-term plans.
The former Birmingham and Arsenal ace is out of contract in the summer and he could agree a pre-contract with any interested continental sides next month.
Real are now hoping to do a deal with Liverpool to bring Pennant to El Santiago Bernabeu when the transfer window reopens.
Liverpool could be willing to cash-in on Pennant next month rather than risk losing the 25-year-old for nothing at the end of the season. (tribalfootball.com)
If Juande Ramos does indeed intend to take Jermaine to the La Liga champions I would be shocked. This source suggests that the only stumbling block was wage demands but could the former Arsenal man really be on the Real managers shopping list? Pennant has the ability to play at a very high level but he has proven at Anfield that he is woefully inconsistent and prone to outside influences that affect his chances of being selected in the first place. Rafa would obviously be very keen to get some money for the wideman before his contract runs out but apparently the player wasn’t too keen on moves to Blackburn and Stoke but he would obviously jump at the chance of a move to Madrid, but could it really become a reality? Do Liverpool fans think that this deal could really happen?

Yes i read about this move but surely it can’t be true? Pennant is at best a mid table performer.

is Real out of their fucking mind ??? why would they buy a shit like pennant ????
he is useless and he won’t do any good 4 real , the best thing he could do is maybe playin 4 a mid table side ( maybe like n’castle or sunderland or blackburn ) n even there , i doubt he’ll get 1st pick

If Junade Ramos makes this move….. then i’ll be most dissapointed…..
This will (if it happens….. chances are very low) be the biggest blunder in Real Madrid history ( in past few years)…….
O common Ramos has already signed Diarra….. he has Robben…..
he can sign Ronaldo,Tevez (for sure) , Lennon (for sure)……… y would he go for pennant…. who is out of form….
This is not looking to happen…..
Poor Spuds - December 25th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
If a failure like Juande ramos can become coach of the Biggest Club in the world ( read it as Real Madrid) then this deal is definately believable…. afterall it wud be t mediocre ramos who wants to get a mediocre pennant to real madrid…
Ramos wont be coach after t end of the season…
Mourinho for Real Madrid coach….

It’s not gonna happen, Pennants too greedy and the move is off.
YouGotOwened! - December 25th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
I read why, he wants Pennant to become a super sub, which i think he’d be good at cause he has bags of pace + theres only a few real good defenders in La Liga, most of which play for Real.
slicky4 - December 26th, 2008 at 2:03 am
if the rumours are true??????? rafa should bite real’s hands off…….. pennant has played about 4 decent games since he’s been with us….. let him have his chance in spain…

either ramos wants to turn real into wat he is (read it as mediocre coach ) or its sheer desperation on real’s part to get players…
else i find no reason as to how pennant can possibly move to real madrid… cuz he’s overrated, over confident, cocky n a total jackass..
in short t last player real wud ever want in their team….
good for liverpool though… they’ll be laughin all t way to t bank by sellin tat piece of crap to real…

Pennant is a great player when given a chance. His ability to weave into the defence and deliver solid crosses is very good. But as someone noted, Kuyt somehow gets that RWM position and, while he works hard, doesn’t do much except add pace down that side of the field. Pennant is superior to Dirk on that side and should get more opps. Remember Pennant last year did quite well and started many games. If Pool can get a better RB, Pennant may be back into the RWM position for additional pace and skill on that side.
Next question is why don’t they play Babel up front sometimes? Stevie did great in that position yesterday so what is Raffa’s issue with putting babel up front to start? Again, Kuyt works hard but I think his goals seem like luck shots most of the time. Raffa really needs to figure out the how to best utilize these Dutch strikers we have as it is going on another season and he still struggles with striker placement and formation. It just means lack of consistency…and we need consistency to beat Chelsea and to win the Champion’s League next time around.

Real are a strange club.
One window they want to sign ronaldo (who sadly is one of the best players in the world) and now they want pennant!
PS: He has turned the move down because he wanted more wages (50,000 a week for him!)

Mr Comfort do you actually realise you’ve put Liverpool STAR and the the following sentence proceeded to call him a flop?!?! Is it just me?
