Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp sealed the transfer of Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe for £15.75million in the early hours of this morning.
The England striker was due at White Hart Lane to undergo a medical before completing his switch back to the club that sold him to Portsmouth a year ago.
The Spurs boss insisted there are no dirty tricks behind the deal – and their attempts to sign Middlesbrough and England winger Stewart Downing.
As revealed in Sportsmail yesterday, the north London club secured the deal for the 26-year-old after Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie lashed out the transfer fee. (Daily Mail)
Well this source suggests the deal is done, and who am I to argue! It has seemed like it was on the cards for some time, even when Redknapp went on record and stated the fee that another club had put in for Defoe was too rich for him it still felt like a deal to bring the former Spurs man back to the club would be done sooner rather than later. Are Tottenham fans happy about the return of the England international?

Defoe is an excellent player & will bag a few goals but i find that he is too greedy & only works well with a big man with him i.e Crouch, I doubt that Bent or Pavleychenko are the right partners for him.
What the spuds really need is an injury free centreback, getting Woody & King together for 90 mins is like a Man Poo fan living in Manchester, hardly gonna happen.

I am slightly surprised Jermaine wanted to go back to the spuds, you hardly had nice things to say about him the last time around, so far as I remember you thought he was a donkey who couldn’t score in a brothel….
I have to admit though, I thought you got rid of the wrong Jermaine last time around, perhaps it is now time for the other one to go, you know, the crap one who looks like Gareth Gates

well done jermaine…. go back to the yids, there ll be a nice spot waiting for ya… on the bench!

From one bench to another, well done Defoe, although it does seem like most spurs players are good at warming a bench, and yet again he will want to move again in the summer as I doubt he will like playing in the championship next season.
Great move lad.

Damn…the two guys above me are bitter!
We all know JD will not go back to the bench, as he will be a first choice striker, up top with Pavlyuchenko with Darren Bent returning to his “supersub” role for most matches. That said, he could provide the goals we need to move us out of this relegation nightmare, and I am happy he’s back at the Lane.
Come on Jermain!
