Manchester City and Tottenham are keeping tabs on Joe Cole’s situation at Chelsea.
The Daily Star says Cole has not finished a game he has started since September, stretching 13 matches, but although some of the substitutions have been due to injury, Cole has been upset recently that he is always the player to give way.
The 27-year-old now wants assurances from manager Luiz Felipe Scolari that he remains a first-choice pick and still has a future at Stamford Bridge.
Cole has 18 months left on his Chelsea contract, but both sides have been happy until now to leave renewal talks to the summer.
But Cole’s growing unrest has alerted Manchester City and Tottenham, with both clubs keen on him. (tribalfootball.com)
Joe Cole is a quality player who is understandably unhappy with things at Chelsea, the England international having only managed 13 Premier League starts this term is therefore linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. There will be some who might consider a move from the west London side to their hated rivals from the north won’t happen but then Cole did make the move from West Ham almost five year ago so is not against such a contentious move. He obviously knows and respects Harry Redknapp so that could make any such move a possibility but any move would not be cheap with some valuing the wide man in the £17m bracket, which may seem expensive but then again is only a tad more than the club spent on Darren Bent. Do Tottenham fans think such a move could occur and if so would they welcome it?

I would welcome him at WHL but can’t see it happening

If you’d have said Joe Cole would join Spurs six months ago i would have laughed myself silly, but we could get him now. Chelsea are idiots for not picking him regularly. He won’t be cheap though but would probably prefer moving to re-join Harry rather than a move to Man City where things could go horribly wrong!

Joe Cole is a luxery player, I cant see him making a big difference at the Lane right now, and if he was to leave Chelsea I think there are a host of clubs higher that would want him.
I would like him at Spurs, but after a defensive Midfielder, another Centre forward, a top centre back…

No doubt in my mind that Joe Cole would make a significant and positive impact on Spurs performance – he’s fast, unpredictable, and aggressive. Hard to believe he would come down to Spurs though.

This is a non starter i am afraid, my chelsea source tells me that Scolari as been told to sell before he can buy, but its Malouda he is going to offload. Would other spurs fans prefer Malouda over Downing?
Just something that keeps coming from the corridors of WHL, is that Harry would welcome bids of 12m+ for Bent so he can continue rebuilding in Jan, Aston Villa i understand are considering a bid.
Also i was told this last week, Man city will bid 12m for Jenas in the next week.

i dont think cole would want to be in a relegation battle wiv spurs rather than a title challenge wiv chelsea and he is getting about 90 grand a week the only plus side is that he will get first team football. also i no hes a top class player but u dont need an attacking midfielder in central or out wide on the right and surely harry would want a natural left footed player. it would be stupid to get downing because he is just a good player playing for a rubbish side in middlesbrough also why on earth would spurs pay 15m, anyway the board were stupid enough not to but ashley young for 9.5m and now he is worth about 24m, theyve also missed out on wright phillips for 9m when they payed 15m for a decent player in bentley.
everytime spurs pay over 12m they get it all wrong maybe wiv harry they would get it right but b4 they have bought pavlyuchenko, bent, bentley, modric and bale. theyre all good players but none of them are worth more than 12m. what spurs need is a good left winger and left back, and strong aggresive central midfielder wiv the will to win, and a striker but theyve just signed a proven gopalscorer within defoe i fink berbatov, defoe and woodgate ave bin the best signings but woodgate and defoe are easy and proven buys but the berbatov buy has only bin a great one off signing

offload Bent & bring in Owen, Upson
This guyan captain looks mustard so if he stays fit could do a decent job as a defensive MF.
i’d be happy with Cole but could you fit him in MF with Modric?? not too sure on that as it seems to make the MF a little lightweight.

jamie o’hara is the way forward, love jc but we have lennon and bentley in that pos
davy41 - January 6th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Sell Jenas (to city for loads of money) Bent and Bently to Villa then buy Cole and either Alex or Turner plus Fred gives us Gomes Corluka Alex/Turner Woodgate Bale Cole (LM) Appiah Modric Lennon Defoe Fred/Pavachenko.Might concede a few but bet we score more.

Just what we need, another right sided midfielder as if two 15 million + quid players (lennon and Bentley) were not enough? Where do these guys come up with this stuff from?
mo s arsenal - January 7th, 2009 at 5:19 am
the best team for cole is arsenal
jimmyboy - January 7th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
There isn’t a chance of this happening, he wouldnt leave chelsea for spurs, if he was on the market there would be a host of champions league clubs after his signature
james - January 7th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
his family are spurs supporters, hes from london and obviously loves living in london, hes worked with harry before, spurs have a number of british players,an extremely good team with just a few tweeks needed to make it tick properly, theres every chance he would come to spurs.
Herve Bonnier - January 7th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
How is it that your “extremely good team” can’t get out of the relegation fight?
Harold’s honeymoon is clearly over as you’re league form has taken a turn for the worse and here you are again talking about all the top class talent you’re going to sign and who will definitely, honestly, surely turn the tide. Dream on Spuds. You’re going down and you know it.

I agree with Plamen, Bent and bently must go, the problem is not only laziness, that negative lazy attitude could spread through the team like an infection.
Alan S - January 8th, 2009 at 10:24 am
I’d sooner have Joe Cole than Bentley but who’d be fool enough to take Bentley off our hands?
Billy the Yid - January 10th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
sign anyone aslong as Bentley, Lemon and Jenus are off loaded what a pair of —–
you can fill in the blanks.
