Chelsea appeal Lampard’s red card: Do they have beef with the FA over the ruling?

Chelsea are coming to the defense of their star midfielder for his alleged red card tackle against Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso. They’re hoping the FA will reconsider the punishment

Chelsea have lodged an appeal with the FA against the red card issued to Frank Lampard during yesterday’s 2-0 defeat by Liverpool. Lampard was sent off in the 60th minute by Mike Riley, the referee, even though TV replays showed the Chelsea player got to the ball ahead of Xabi Alonso.

Lampard is due to serve a three-match ban for receiving the straight red but Chelsea are hopeful the FA will overturn Riley’s decision when they review the matter tomorrow. (The Times)

Lampard is claiming the tackle was nothing more than a tap; however, while you can make the claim that Mike Riley is a match changing referee, you’d have to believe he had a fairly good angle to see the bad tackle.

What do Chelsea supporters think about the ruling? Does Lampard deserve to have the ban lowered?
