Should Manchester United defender win Player of the Year award?

The Red Devils are sure to have several players featuring in the ‘Team of the Year’ that’s compiled at the end of the season, although will one of them also pick up the best player award. Last campaign, Cristiano Ronaldo won by a country mile, although it’s a defender that’s being tipped to scoop the honours this time around.

Indeed, Nemanja Vidic can rightly be described as one of the best defenders in the world at the moment, especially as he’s standing out for the best team on the planet! Setanta reports that the Serbian is flattered that Gary Pallister has singled him out for recognition, which is a far cry from the beginning of the season when the centre-half was sent off at Anfield.

“It’s a big award and to be a defender and to be in competition to be the best player in the league, it does not happen every year,” he told Setanta.

“Obviously, I’m glad people speak about that. I try to do my best for the team and we’re doing well until now so they speak about one of the players because we’re doing well.

“I’m very, very glad people speak about me in that way.

“It’s also nice when the manager is happy about your game.”

Vidic is undoubtedly a central reason why Manchester United have recently embarked on such an excellent run of victories and clean sheets, with the player also weighing in with five goals for the Red Devils. Do you think he should win the award, or do you feel as though the likes of Carrick and Berbatov should also be considered?
