Tottenham and Arsenal supporters: Was Andrei Arshavin or Robbie Keane the bigger final day transfer shock?
by offsidetrap on February 4th, 2009 14 commentsOne’s putting on a new shirt in a totally different language; the other is slipping back into the same kit he wore less than a year ago. Whilst Robbie Keane and Andrei Arshavin don’t have anything in common, both were considered to be the biggest transfer signings of the January window.
Nobody in their right mind expected Liverpool to move Keane on the final day of the window with a title challenge staring them in the face. But against everyone’s opinion, Rafa Benitez made the move anyway, all the while claiming that the move was a real gamble. Whether the move pays off in the form of a league title remains to be seen.
Arshavin, on the other hand, seemed destined to stay at Zenit St Petersburg forever. His club could never come to financial agreements, then it was Arshavin that couldn’t agree with Arsenal on a contract, followed closely by Arsenal claiming that they had made a deal (with Zenit claiming the move wasn’t going to happen until the summer). Whew! In the end it was all paper talk, and Arshavin is the one grinning all the way with his new number 23 kit.
While both transfer stories made for an intriguing final day, we want to know which one was the bigger shock?

Frankly, neither was a shocker. It was played in the papers so much that it’s like watching a bad movie re-run.

Who would the spurs fans rather want between the two? I think a minority would have said Arshavin (at least before he went to Arsenal), so without knowing how the russian will perform in the EPL, he´s clearly the more intersting player out of the two and should fit in well with the way Arsenal play. Keane may find his old spurs form but is not as good a player as Arshavin, but he does have prem experience.
Personally I´m much more interested in what Arshavin can do and I´m glad to see another talented player join the league…

bollox Chappers!!! you were right the first time!!! Most Spurs fans would rather Keane than Arseshavin any day!!! Will Arshavin fit in with the bunch of French and African misfits put together by Arsole Wanker??? I dont think so, and i reckon its gonna be funny watching Arshenal waste 15 fat ones on the little Russian!! He`ll be russian all over the place doing fuk all!!!!

Arshavin has not proved himself to be better than Keane, not saying he wont but don’t get too carried away.
One good EUFA cup run and a good performances in one european championships does not make him world class which is why no one wanted to meet zenits valuation of him.

hahaha…..Robbie crying his way back to spuds as he couldnt get a place in his boyhood team.
Face it he couldnt wait to get away from you lot….now he is running back with his caravan between his tails. After all Liverpool are a bigger and better team

Robbie Keane has always been mediocre at best, he has failed at every big club he has been to.
Arshavin has joined one of the most successful clubs with one of the best managers in world football
Robbie Keane has gone back to a club currently in a relegation fight who still have ideas above their station, we may be fifth but I’d be keeping very quiet about it if I were in 17th!!!!!
and claiming 15M is a waste of money on Arshavin,
Barren Dent, David Bentley, Dos Santos, Palacios!!!!!
you have also brought 3 former players back because no one else will come.

Robbie Keane goin back to t spuds aint a shocker at all…afterall he is back to t team tat he deserves to play for….
t bigger shock was tat liverpool wasted money on him at 1st place….
to be frank arshavin’s transfer wasnt a shocker either… but we atleast hav somethin to look forward to wit arshavin…
keane’s nyways gonna liv up to his reputation of bein mediocre… t only difference is tat his mediocrity’s gonna go unnoticed @ a club tat eats, breaths n breeds mediocrity…..

Gunner – As much as we would like to see him play, he is not match fit, having not played for a couple of months.
Ray Parlour – Keane is hardley mediocre and I bet he will score against us Sunday.
Poor Spuds – Where do I start with you? That is not spelt tat, live is not spelt liv, the is not spelt t etc etc etc.
gunner - February 4th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
Colney Gooner – yes i know but surely, give him a little 15 minute spell at the end of the game just to strutt his stuff.
i cant wait to see what he has to offer on the pitch
