After the transfer deadline: Where will Arsenal finish the season?
by offsidetrap on February 5th, 2009 128 words | 10 commentsWell the transfer deadline has come and passed and what you’re looking at right now is the team you’ll be finishing the season with. Scary or not, it’s time to believe in the starting XI (even if you don’t really want to). For some clubs, this is the time of the year when the sweet smell of European football comes calling; for others, this is the time of the season where the thought of a relegation battle starts to settle in.
We want to know based on the current squad where your club will finish the season. Do you have the horses for a top four finish, or are you already preparing for trips to West Bridgford and South Norwood next season?
Let us know in the comment box below.

I personally feel Arsenal will make the last four without too much struggle. The race is still very open. I expect alot of surprise by March. Dont be surpised if we make the first three positions. When the Champions league sets in, make teams will make decisions that might cost them points at home in the league. With the current list of injuries at the club, I see the club getting stronger by march and certainly we will be in the Champions leafgue next year.

I am most times caught wondering why people are thinking of Arsenal Championship qualification instead of calling Liverpool or others. For God sake, we still have 16 matches to go. And that is 48 points? I guess at the end of March, people will replace Arsenal with another team because we will already have occupy second position.
Cheers – Gooners for life

Despite the fact that arsenal has coughed out that fee for arshavin, i think this was not the only problem for the squad. Believe our defence needed re-inforcement,the more our opponents try out aerial balls to our defence, its unbelievable but, it’s a must for them to score a goal!!!!!!!!. We sold Lassana and at the same time lost Flamini, from there Mr Wenger , talked of the emerging Song ;sincerely i see this was a mother of blunders!! Every one is expecting alot from Arshavin, but remember Veron ,shevchenko and all the other flops of those past seasons. As miracles never cease to happen, you never know they comfortable finish in the 5th position, despite the fact that our competitors in the top flight will be loosing matches; what about us???? We’re soon loosing miserably to Man-u at O/T, as remember our big date with spurs, chelsea and liverpool. i think we’re having around three losses, are we not going to be down to A/villa again. Just give it a thought after, time will tell!!!!!!!!!. PEACE TO YOU ALL GUNNERS

3rd or more. we have too many players coming in and will prove to be superior to the likes of Villa and either liverpool or chelski.
people are moaning and questioning Arsenal at the moment instead of worrying about their own teams (manutd excluded). Some teams have spent an obscene amount of money (i.e spuds) and are still fighting relegation.
We should be hailing the brilliance of the abilities of Wenger. The team he is building will be awesome. give it time and some luck (injuries) and lookout EPL.
Go you Gunners and Hail our messiah!!!

While I am excited with the players to come back, I don’t think this squad will ever be awesome. The team we have put out in the last couple of weeks don’t suggest to me they will suddenly become world beaters. With AWs inability to produce a world class defence we will still struggle for silverware in the forseeable future.
Don’t get me wrong gooners, would still rather watch an average Arsenal than anybody else !

Please now just stop and think for a moment about the team that has played for the past 4 weeks. We were unbeaten, we won a few games and drew the rest. The draws came against teams that are experienced and on a high. Westham have very good players; so do everton. They drew us but we were better. Now remember that we were still getting points playing Eboue, Song, Denilson, DIaby, Djourou, and Bendtner. Now imagine if those players were replaced by our full squad players, Rosicky, Edu, Theo, Fabregas, Arshavin, That is half of the first eleven. And they are all already world class. Imagine the experience that our substitutes has has this year along with the strength of our first eleven. Where do you think we will go from there. I can say that this team will go places in 2009/2010. Young, talented and full of experience. although i think that Song will be finally sold along side Eboue

Guys, Guys,
You are living in a dream world or in denial at best.
Arsenal are a team in decline. Wenger has had his best days and you seriously need to rebuild.
Honestly now, are you better than Man Urd, Liverpool and Chelsea? In your day yes. Right now, no I don’t think so. Liverpool and Chelsea have their problems that is for sure and that will help Arsenal but you are already well off the pace and to claw your way back is not impossible, just improbable.
In a previous forum I suggested that Wenger ‘faffed’ around in the Arshavin signing. Why? One fan quite rightly said if you had stumped up £2million more right away you would have got 4 games out of Arshavin by now.
Is Wenger paid on results or the size of the Arsenal bank account? At the moment it looks like the latter is true. What other big signings have you made against what you need? See the picture?
On top of this there is now a big uproar about the way that Arshavin has been brought in. This will not help the lad settle and may even prevent him from playing for a while. Why? Because of money being more important than results.
No, Wenger has had his day. It has been all downhill since the ‘Untouchables’ season. What silverware have you won in the last 3 or even 4 years? Your team needs restructuring-face up to it. Why not admit that a top 4 slot is really the very best that you can hope for this season and praying that the other teams will slip up for you to get a look in?
Final positions?
Man Utd 1st
Villa 2nd
Chelsea / Liverpool either 3rd and 4th
Arsenal UEFA Cup
No I am not a Man Utd or Villa fan by the way.
I don’t expect you to like it but think about what I have said and come back with an argument as to why i’m wrong, instead of insults, that really gives Arsenal fans no credit at all.
Cheerio.

Am worried already as i know right now that our competitors have made progress in signing heavy weights like Kaka and now Ronaldo heading to the same direction!!
The next day you will hear Wenger signing a 13 year old and vehemently explaining how versatile he is, how promising and what else.
Am worried if we do not face the same fate of Newcastle. Remember it was once a giant in the big four but slowly and steadily kept on moving down the drain.
God help us that they sell the club to some one who can invest in cash
Sorry for those who do not believe in this!!!
