Now that Chelsea have confirmed their manager for the rest of the season, all the speculation is starting to be directed towards who will be the new man at Portsmouth. Avram Grant, Alan Curbishley and Roy Keane have all been linked, but David James isn’t keen on any of these.
Instead, the Pompey keeper is keen to link up with his former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson. James believes that this would be a very big step forward for a club that is currently struggling in the Premier League.
James says that somebody of Eriksson’s calibre would be an ‘excellent acquisition’ for the club and that to have a former England manager as the boss would be something that the Portsmouth fans ‘never envisaged’.
Overall, it is clear that James believes the Swede would turn around Portsmouth’s fortunes. They are in a desperate run of form at the moment and the football odds are backing them to go down. Now with Tony Adams gone, they need someone to come in and give them a boost.
Is Sven this man though? Has he got the motivation skills to get the players up for the relegation dog fight? What do we think Portsmouth fans?
Personally, I think he would do a good job. However, is he really going to take it? He left Manchester City after only a season, so is he really going to take a job where he can’t really win? Portsmouth stay up – so they should. Portsmouth go down – Sven’s reputation in England goes down.
I realise that I am asking more questions that giving answers, but this really is something I would like opinion on. After his experience with England, fans in this country have mixed feeling about Eriksson, so what to Portsmouth fans think?
One final question – if Sven got the job, would he drop James like he did on a number of occasions for England?!
