Are Aston Villa really chasing this DEFENDER for their squad? He doesn’t fit in with the current regime
by offsidetrap on February 17th, 2009 277 words | 12 commentsAston Villa are said to be in the market this summer for a defender this summer to act as a replacement in the event that Martin Laursen’s injuries mount over the next year or so. But is this player being linked with the club really a good option?
Aston Villa will make a fresh move in the summer for Micah Richards amid growing fears about Martin Laursen’s long-term fitness.
Martin O’Neill enquired last month about signing Manchester City centre-back Richards, 20, for around £8million.
But City were not willing to sell their homegrown star until getting a replacement – and they failed to land Everton’s Joleon Lescott.
Villa still believe they could snap up England international Richards in the summer though, following his indifferent form this term. (Daily Mirror)
Richards has had a falling out at the club recently, and from the looks of it, he could be out this summer for the right price. The right price is probably the key phrase, as City have already made it clear that they wouldn’t allow the defender to leave on the cheap. One has to wonder if Villa will be able to part with the funds necessary to release Richards from his current club.
Also, do Villa supporters even wants Richards’ baggage at the club? He hasn’t been the model citizen at City, so who’s to say he’d change his ways at Villa? Martin O’Neill has a great thing going right now; the last thing he wants is a player that could muck it all up.
What do Villa supporters think? Would you pay to have Richards at your club?

I think most Villa fans would, although I’m unsure as he seems a big time charle.
I certainly wouldn’t pay £8 mill or the reported £60k a week either.

He’d be a great signing!! MON would undoubtedly utilise Richards versatility, and I think that Villa’s established pros- Laursen in particular & the coaching staff would provide a really positive influence. He has massive potential…. SIGN HIM UP!!

Trouble maker, bad attitude and lack of professionlism make him a big no-no. Lots of potential but so did Bosco Balaban!!!!!

I think Richards would be an excellent signing OMG it was only like last season or so when people were talking about him being world class, he is English he is very strong and powerful he is fast and he works hard.
I believe with all the other English lads i believe he will force his way back into the England squad, it was only last season he was reportedly worth over 21m, and 8m in this day and age is hardly nothing.
He fits the Aston Villa bill perfectly.

It’s all getting a bit Clint Eastwood on here!
Back on subject… I dont get what has happened to Richards this season. He seems to be wrapped up in his own little world, it’s almost as if he’s got to Premier league player status and has decided thats enouhg for him!
I hope Villa do sign him, For Richards sake as much as anything. The lad needs to take a pay cut, get some serious training in with a serious boss i.e MON, and try and establish himself at the centre of Englands ageing central defence!

wot a fuckin idiot…. richards is shit.
he is totally unreliable, his form is shit and he does a lot of his wages up his nose.
he isn’t a good player to have for a team hoping to gate crash the top 4
