While Roman Abramovich, Guus Hiddink and the below ‘troublemaker’ refuse to concede defeat in the Premier League title race, it’s actually becoming an amusing joke to think that Chelsea can finish ahead of Manchester United this season. Ultimately, it requires the Red Devils to not only lose the odd game, but to have a blip of epic proportions, not to mention the Stamford Bridge lot needing lots of wins.
Petr Cech successfully issued a rallying call before his team’s, erm 0-0 draw with Hull City, and the goalkeeper has once against stressed the need to start winning games ASAP if they are to challenge for the Premier League. Sky Sports reports that the goalkeeper doesn’t think they are out of the race yet, despite being ten points behind.
“Regarding the table and the position we are now in, we need to try and win, I think a draw won’t change anything except our chances for the title,” Cech told Chelsea TV.
“But this is the first game where we should start our run, because if we are going to catch Manchester United we have to keep winning every game.”
If Chelsea are to catch Manchester United, the entire Red Devils first team would need to be struck down by a mystery illness and even then, the second string would probably have enough in the tank to get over the line. Ultimately, will the champions finish more or less than ten points ahead of Chelsea by the end of the season? That’s the current margin and the chances are that Fergie’s men will pull away from the chasing pack even more.
