You have to be gutted for Eduardo, who marked his Arsenal comeback with two goals and a hamstring strain, the latter of which means he misses the Sunderland match on Saturday. However, Arsene Wenger will be giving a certain someone their Gunners debut, can he do an equally good job of lifting his new club?
Sky Sports reports that Andrei Arshavin is set to make his Arsenal bow against the Black Cats, although it’s not quite clear whether he’ll start the match, or come on after 62 minutes when Wenger grows tired of watching his team fail to break down their defensive opposition.
“He will be involved,” Wenger told the club’s official website. “But I have not decided what I will do with him yet.”
The French coach added: “He is still working on preparation and he is not qualified for the (UEFA Champions League) game against Roma (on Tuesday) so we can give him another week of hard work.
“At the end of next week, that will be three weeks with us and one week with Zenit, that should be enough.”
So Arsenal fans, what are you expecting from Arshavin on Saturday? A few minutes on the pitch after coming on as substitute, or a starring role for the Gunners? Wenger is all too aware that his team need to start picking up wins quickly if they are to land a place in the Champions League, so surely a half-fit Russian playmaker is better than not playing him at all?
