Sort of agree with rednose here but it not completely true. The problem is not Wengers reluctance to buy defenders but his stubborness. He likes to take on young kids and develop them. One would think a guy who played in defence in his early years would build a better defence but he's very inflexible in his approach. He has bought quality defenders...Sol/Toure/Gallas/Sagna

Plus he dosent like to spend huge amounts, i think he gets more joy from seeing his youngsters develop into stars. However it comes at a price and since he hasnt kept the side together he starts to rebuild every summer. So what if Theo/Vanpersie/Cesc leave this summer with no CL next season?!

Wenger needs to wake up but it might be just a bit too late....

Dissapointed Gooner...

Oh and why he presists with Eboue,Song and Ade.....its insanity.

I couldn't agree more. Granted, Wenger is good at spotting young exciting talent who can play pure football. But you have to balance that out with being pragmatic. Not all youngsters you recruit will reach their potential, and after a few years of no good defenders coming through the youth ranks its realistic to buy one or two.
