As they always say: In every dark cloud there emerges a silver lining. Whilst David Moyes would rather not have to deal with dark clouds, he really doesn’t have any other option after midfielder, Mikel Arteta, was lost for the rest of the season. But could Everton supporters have the distinct opportunity of watching a young star mature before their very eyes? It’s looking that way after Moyes made it clear that youth will be served this season.
“Now the onus falls on someone else. Maybe a bit more will be asked of young Jack Rodwell, who’s has done well when he’s come in, in the centre of midfield.” (Setanta)
Moyes and others have heaped high praise on their young midfielder. At only 17-years-old, Jack Rodwell still has a lot of football to be played before people start to debate his accolades. But with Arteta out, this could be the perfect time for the midfielder — who recently signed a five-year contract — to get some proper first team football on a consistent basis. His name could certainly be penciled in for the starting XI if he shows Moyes that he’s worth the risk.
What do Everton supporters think about Rodwell? Is he worth the gamble with Arteta out?
