Whilst you can never trust every transfer story that comes along, this one seems to be too far out there for even Arsene Wenger and his Arsenal team. After signing Andrei Arshavin during the January window Arsenal have now set their sights on another midfield magician. But shouldn’t Arsene be chasing defenders?
Although the Gunners struggled to raise the £13million to snatch Andrei Arshavin in a controversial postdeadline deal this month, Wenger has made it known the club will have to find the £20m from somewhere to land Silva.
The talented Canary Islander, an explosive attacking midfielder, is one of the most sought after players in Spain, with La Liga big guns Real Madrid and Barcelona both hot on his trail.
But Wenger has been encouraged by indications from informed sources that Silva would like to play in the Premier League and is attracted by the prospect of playing alongside Cesc Fabregas, a close friend since they first played in the Spanish Under- 17s team. (Daily Mail)
There’s no doubt that Silva is a fantastic talent; his play for Valencia this season has helped keep the club’s head above water while they deal with reports that the Spanish club is €450m in debt. That could eventually lead to Valencia selling off their most prized pieces this summer (Silva and Villa) or going into administration and then watching as both players are still sold off in a far more wretched manner.
But do Arsenal really need another midfielder? Sure, Silva would be a great option to have, but there have to be better players out there that you could spend £20m on, right? A defender would be the better way to go if you asked Arsenal supporters.
What would Arsenal supporters think about going after Silva?
