‘We are going to smash Liverpool’ claims Real Madrid president: Do you agree with his verdict?
by stresster on February 24th, 2009 5 commentsReal Madrid have been on a fantastic run under Juande Ramos, and it appears that a string of wins has started going to their heads. The president has made a very bold claim ahead of his team’s two matches against Liverpool, forecasting wins for the Spanish champions at the Bernabeu and Anfield.
The Daily Mail reports that Vicente Boluda has joined a long list of football club presidents who make wildly inaccurate predictions to try and please supporters and win more votes. He’s going for a modest 3-0 win at the Bernabeu on Wednesday, followed by a 2-1 victory for Madrid in the second leg (nice that he’s given the Reds a goal there).
‘We will win 3-0 in the Bernabeu which will be a great party,’ he said. ‘Then we will win 2-1 in Liverpool.’
On the eve of the first leg he said: ‘We will go on to win the Champions League.’
Amazingly (!), the bookmakers don’t agree with Boluda the expert, making Real the slight outsiders to knock Liverpool out, while they are double figure odds to win the competition. Do Reds supporters just find this prediction hilarious? Surely it will give Rafael Benitez something to post on the dressing room wall before the match, thus acting as motivation for the 2005 winners.

what if Madrid really win? With the team Juande Ramos has built, the only way Liverpool can score is from the flanks or set pieces. And flanks means right flank where there is Heinze.
I can’t see Gerrard / Torres / Alonso playing their game with the strong defence of Diarra / Gago / Pepe / Cannavaro. If these 4 play properly I can’t see Liverpool scoring that easy.

realkings, have you not watched liverpool in european competition over the past 4 or 5 years? ok i agree you are right it will not be an easy game for us, but recently this is exactly the kinds of games that we have been winning, after not being very convincing in the league, we were written off against the likes of barca, chelsea, juve, even arsenal. and we came thru and won them all, hopefully it will be a great football spectacle, but i can see there only being a one goal margin, either way, over the 2 legs, thts how close it will be.

The president will be eating his words at the end of the 2 legs.We will not give them time and space to do anything.
