Has Portsmouth chairman just consigned the team to relegation?

by stresster on February 3rd, 2009 4 comments

After landing the FA Cup under Harry Redknapp last season, the current campaign has been a bit of come-down for Pompey fans. OK, so another piece of silverware might have been too much to expect, although another solid Premier League placing and a decent run in the UEFA Cup would have been the quite reasonable expectation carried by many supporters. Neither have happened as Portsmouth slide down the league at a rate of knots, although there appears to be no managerial change in the offing at the moment. [Read the rest of this entry »]

We couldn’t believe it wasn’t some dodgy dubbing job, but the clip appears to be real and untouched.

Must start watching that show more often…

‘Cheeky’ Newcastle bid for Sunderland star revealed…after being quickly rebuffed!

by stresster on February 3rd, 2009 no comments

This time last season, Kevin Keegan struggled to sign anyone for Newcastle United, although whether there were funds available is open to question. Twelve months down the line and it appears Mike Ashley understands that the Magpies need to spend to ensure that they remain a Premier League club next season. However, this Sunderland player was surely never going to leave the Stadium of Light for the Black Cats’ biggest rivals was he? [Read the rest of this entry »]

Arsenal transfer target reveals all on personal website: Will the deal go through?

by stresster on February 3rd, 2009 3 comments

The Gunners are cutting it fine if they’re to land a player that they’ve been chasing since last summer, possibly even longer given Arsene Wenger’s wide network of scouts. It had appeared yesterday as though they were on the verge of bringing some much-needed creativity to the Arsenal set-up, although the player has set the record straight on his personal website. Newcastle fail to sign £8 million injured midfielder from Manchester City

by stresster on February 3rd, 2009 no comments

Many of the Toon Army will regard their failure to land this player as a blessing in disguise. After all, with Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins already out injured, the club could do without more star quality on the treatment table for an indefinite period. [Read the rest of this entry »]

Liverpool manager admits taking gamble with striker sale to Tottenham

by stresster on February 3rd, 2009 32 comments

Rafael Benitez has revealed why Robbie Keane had to leave Anfield this week, although quite whether the majority of Liverpool fans will agree with his decision is another matter. The Irishman’s exit to Spurs appears to leave the Reds painstakingly short of firepower, a situation that will be exacerbated if Fernando Torres picks up any further knocks or injuries. “Chelsea red card was justified” claims Liverpool defender: No love lost between these two teams!

by stresster on February 3rd, 2009 19 comments

While most people with half a brain think that Frank Lampard was a tad unfortunate to receive his marching orders at Anfield on Sunday, this opinion isn’t shared by this Liverpool defender. Using his powers of objectivity, he reckons that the challenge could have done some serious damage to team-mate Xabi Alonso and, on that basis, he deserved to be sitting alone in the away team’s bath. Chelsea to have their cake and eat it! Red card reversed and no action taken on defender

by stresster on February 3rd, 2009 15 comments

The Blues had every right to feel aggrieved when Frank Lampard saw red at Anfield on Sunday, although this ‘Exclusive’ from a British tabloid will make them feel happier. But has the referee made the right decisions and have the FA been intimidated by Chelsea? [Read the rest of this entry »]

Chelsea are wobbling, Liverpool lack a cutting edge: Should we just hand Manchester United the trophy now?

by stresster on February 3rd, 2009 4 comments

It’s all been a little too easy for the champions in recent weeks. While they have won every league match since Boxing Day, their meteoric rise into Premier League top spot has been aided by the ineptitude of their main rivals. After all, Manchester United have lost two and drawn five matches this season, illustrating that there has been an opportunity for another team to stretch their legs at the summit. Failed Liverpool target feeling happy at Aston Villa: No wonder, they might pip the Reds this season!

by stresster on February 3rd, 2009 11 comments

In addition to the daily stories linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a move from Manchester United to Real Madrid, another transfer saga dominated the back pages of the newspapers throughout the summer. Like the above, a deal was never brokered between the two clubs, with the player in question left to contemplate that all things surely happen for a reason. [Read the rest of this entry »]

Have the Chelsea defence started drinking before matches in last few months?

by stresster on February 3rd, 2009 4 comments

Under Jose Mourinho, the Blues were renowned for having a ridiculously strong defence, although the emphasis on rearguard action often came at the cost of free-flowing football. When Phil Scolari became manager during the summer, and subsequently oversaw a strong start from his charges, the ‘experts’ were hailing a coach that had brought about an exciting new brand of football to Stamford Bridge. However, surely there are Chelsea fans now crying out for a return to ‘The Special One’s’ defensive ways. [Read the rest of this entry »]

Tottenham manager delighted after striker signs from Liverpool: Do the fans feel the same way?

by stresster on February 3rd, 2009 6 comments

Listening to TalkSPORT last night, the general consensus among Tottenham supporters was that their latest signing needed to prove himself at White Hart Lane – all over again! There don’t appear to be many who will welcome back this striker with open arms, especially as he was perceived to have left them in the lurch this summer. [Read the rest of this entry »]

Liverpool supporters: Did the club give Robbie Keane a fair shake?

by offsidetrap on February 2nd, 2009 35 comments

There’s no doubt the most shocking bit of news on the last day of the transfer window had to be that of Robbie Keane making a move from Liverpool back to Tottenham after a disastrous spell at the Anfield club.

With only a couple of goals to his name, the £20m striker had been a total flop through the first half of the season. Unlike some transfer players that take time to acclimate to the league, Keane had already experienced the Premier League’s rough and tumble play. He didn’t have an excuse for not playing to his potential.

As Keane leaves the club for White Hart Lane once again, the big question still remains: Did Liverpool and Rafa Benitez give Robbie Keane a fair shot?

It seems like an easy question to answer considering the number of starts and chances Rafa gave the Irishman; but do you really think he could have turned it around in the last couple of months? Was this a matter of getting comfortable at the club, or was Keane just a bust from the word “go”?

What do Liverpool supporters make of the whole situation?

Premier League turns a blind eye to the economic crisis: Who said anything about a credit crunch!

by offsidetrap on February 2nd, 2009 no comments

The economic world as we know it is crumbling right before our very eyes, but that hasn’t stopped the Premier League from thumbing their nose to the rest of us by spending more money in this year’s January transfer window that they did last year! [Read the rest of this entry »]
