For the first time for several seasons, Arsene Wenger appears to be under heavy pressure from the club’s supporters. Previously, the adage has been ‘In Arsene We Trust’, although Gooners are clearly concerned with the backward direction of the team at the moment. Nevertheless, the Frenchman remains optimistic that Arsenal can land a place in next season’s Champions League, with Villa slipping up in recent weeks.
The Press Association reports that Wenger is surprised by the way that the Midlands club have capitulated, stressing that Arsenal now have every opportunity to leapfrog them by the end of the season. It would help if is team could start finding the onion bag!
“It was a very big surprise for me,” said the Gunners boss. “I think that Villa have lost a big opportunity to put us eight points behind and we want to take advantage of that.
“It is down to our consistency, I have said that many times,” he added. “The problem is that in our environment the present situation is definite, but life is movement and football moves quicker than life.
“There is more pressure on Villa, us and everybody – maybe not only Villa are catchable. We have to put performances in to make us come back as quickly as possible.”
Arsenal supporters, do you expect to see your team return to scoring ways at The Hawthorns? After all, if you can’t score against a team rooted to the bottom of the league, who else are going to be as charitable? Have you given up any hope of finishing in the top four, or have the team just been unfortunate not to pick up the three points against the likes of Fulham and Sunderland?
