Liverpool’s match against Sunderland tonight at Anfield was supposed to be a foregone conclusion a couple weeks ago, but that was before Rafa world came crashing down to earth. Over the past couple of weeks Liverpool lost Steven Gerrard to an injury knock against Everton and Fernando Torres to an ankle knock during the Real Madrid clash, and since those injuries things haven’t been the same.
Rafa is calling out his players for their past performance in the league, while the rest of the footballing world is all but crowning Manchester United as the 09/10 league champions. My what a couple of weeks can do for a title challenge. The match tonight was supposed to be another stepping stone in the race to keep up with the Manchester outfit; however, many would now say that the match is even more critical. Tonight’s match will not only give fans a glimpse into the eye of the storm brewing at Anfield, it will also give you an idea of how resolute Liverpool are in the face of extreme pressure.
Sunderland? Well they have nothing to lose in this match. And when you place at team like that (who’s been playing fairly well of late) on the same pitch as a team that’s so tightly wound that the slightest tap would probably cause them to burst — we’ll let’s just say that this is the type of situation where you throw records out the window and hope for the best.
So which club are you taking tonight? Will Liverpool get back on the tracks sans Torres, or will Sunderland add to the nightmare by adding even more misery to Liverpool’s dismal record at home this season?
