Former Liverpool man hits out at Rafa: So was he harshly treated?
by Mr Comfort on March 9th, 2009 13 commentsAfter his return to White Hart Lane it appears this former Anfield man is back to his scoring ways and seems determined to prove his doubters on Merseyside wrong.
Tottenham striker Robbie Keane was delighted with his second goal in four days after their 1-1 draw with Sunderland.
Keane said: “As long as I’m playing football I’m always happy. I can’t score goals if I’m not on the pitch.” (Tribalfootball.com)
So is Robbie right? Did he get enough of a chance under Rafa? Would keeping the Irishman have helped Liverpool’s ailing title push in anyway? Or is it as clear as crystal that Benitez never wanted Keane in the first place and now that Rick Parry is on his way out does this not simply draw a line under the whole sorry affair?

You are not good enough for a top 4 side Mr. Keane, hope your career is a good one playing for “nearly good enough” sides
Tomislav - March 9th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
keano,
you are a good lad, but just look at your ratio! you played enough games and you gave very little.
The thing is you were payed too much – both ways – spurs to reds & reds to spurs!
Dont complain, you had your chance, you didn’t take it!
I hope you will do good in London!
P.S. sorry for my english, I’m Croatian.

wouldn´t say that he was harshly treated but it certainly wasn´t a great series of events for both keane o l´pool.
1 argument could be that l´pool did pay alot for him but in turn the fact that he was there you would have thought that perhaps he(keane) and he (rafa) could and maybe should have made a better go of things.
and the fact that l´pool only have 1 senior striker in torres would it not have been better to have kept hold of keane until the end of the season at the very least?

I so cannot stand it when people are blinded by the team they support and cannot lookg further. Robbie Keane was treated unfairly and was played out of position just like Babel and Kuyt are being done now. How can people expect a striker to turn into a winger?? It does not matter if a player costs 1m, 20m or 100m, you simply cant change all players. A bus player doesnt fly an airplane…..or maybe that is what exists in many of your heads out there.
Rafa got it very wrong and his time is soon over at Liverpool. He has done what he can and this is as far as he can go with us in the league.

It is very diificult to understand those who bash Rafa!! I wish those to think twice before saying anything. In regard to Kean, he certainly had his fair chance to make impact, and he failed. It was not because of lack of effort, he was running like a horse, but not real outcome. There was one miss that I could not take out of my mind, his miss at Atletico Madrid in Madrid from Steven’s cross. Kean tried to be fancy and play the ball between his leg and by the heel, but he totally missed it. I really hated him then, because we were 1-0 up, and if he scored that one, then the game is dusted and burried…
Kean, please shut up and play your game. Rafa is much bigger than you….

Of course he wasn’t harshly treated. He just didn’t perform good enough. Eric’s comments that he was played out of position is answered in 2 ways: 1. He did come on as a striker but just couldn’t score. 2. As a team player, he’s supposed to play where Rafa decides he’s going to be the most effective. What’s “out of position” anyway when compared with what’s best for the TEAM. Look at Stevie G when he was played on the right when his preferred position is down the middle. He just got on with it and was effective for the team. Just because a layer costs 20m does not mean he has the divine right to play each game or be played in his favoured position. Keane had his chance and didn’t take it. Good luck to him at Spurs.

For all those who think he was harshly treated, I remind you of all the games where he looked like he was being paid to either interpret Mr Kujt’s ‘boundless energy yet little outcome’ approach or to look like he was being paid to miss the goal.
He was atrocious for Liverpool and was definitely not the player that we needed – he plays up front next to a target man in a 4-4-2; clearly this should have been a warning signal to the Liverpool board when shelling out for him. The type of player we need is in the Arshavin / Diego / Van der Vaart / Sniejder (the latter being my pick for the job) mould, not an industrious Irishman who doesnt have it in his locker to ‘turn a game’

To be honest, it was just the media that treated Keane harshly. Berbatov scored less goals than Keane at one point in the same number of games and he still gets the stick.

Keane treated Liverpool harsh’ly with the display’s he put in for us, running everywhere and going nowhere fast, too small, too light, too weak, missed sitter’s, and was simply just not good enough.
(“Keane said: “As long as I’m playing football I’m always happy.)
And so am I robbie as long as it is not for Liverpool.
(“I can’t score goals if I’m not on the pitch.” (Tribalfootball.com)”)
Not entirely true Robbie, You could’nt score them when you were on the pitch either, now could you?
You were some waste of money.!!!!!!!!!!!!

steve mcmahon mate you hit the nail on the head. Well done mate take a bow.
Keano was just utter crap. That miss against A.Madrid really done my head in, but the thing that really got to me was the PSV game where he kept on shouting at Babel to pass the ball….. I HATE players that throw there arms in there air and mope about. He was not good enough to wear the shirt or wear the number 7.
Who ever brought Keane, (Parry/Rafa), it was a mistake. I understand what Rafa is trying to. Buy players that want to give 110% playing for liverpool and will die for the shirt. Look at the players. Kuyt, Carra, Gerrard, Masch, Pepe, Torres. These are players that love liverpool.
Rafa tried to inject more passion by buying players that had supported liverpool, such as Bellamy/Keane, he even brought back Fowler.
I respect what he was trying to do, but Keane along with Crouch and Keane just weren’t good enough.
Now if he was going to buy a liverpool fan i would go for Aguero.

Must say i was excited when Robbie joined us.But my goodness what a flop he was easy chances wasted moaning and groaning. He wanted things his way and was not a team player so hit the road bones and stop moaning. He had enough chances to shine but missed sitters and throwing hands in the air.He did not fit in and that is the bottom line.
Dont think he was treated unfairly why would Rafa buy him?
