Liverpool CHASE £8.5m Defensive STARLET
by Mr Comfort on March 11th, 2009 38 commentsWhen he isn’t masterminding European success Rafa also has time to consider new signings apparently!
Simon Kjaer’s performances with Palermo have earned him plenty of praise from the media in Italy, resulting in the 19-year-old becoming a hot property on the European transfer market.
Juventus, Milan, and Fiorentina have all been linked with the former FC Midtjylland player this season, and now he has attracted interest from England as well.
Barclays Premier League sides Chelsea and Liverpool are now considering making a proposal for the centre-back, according to tuttomercatoweb.
Currently, Kjaer, who earned his first call-up to the senior Denmark side last month is valued at around €9 million. (goal.com)
This highly rated centre back is getting his fair share of column inches in the transfer rumour mill world and the teenagers first season in Serie A has gone very well indeed. His solid performances at the heart of the Sicilian club’s defence have earned rave reviews and helped the team to mid table safety and now it appears clubs are sending scouts to watch the 19 year old by the bucketload. Do Liverpool need another centre back, well maybe they do as cover. With Agger continuing to court interest from AC Milan the need for a new signing could become even more pressing. Hyypia isn’t getting any younger but the display last night of the great pairing of Skrtel and Carragher shows that the club doesn’t need anyone urgently!

i guess rafa sees him as a potential straight swap for agger if he leaves Dane for another dane
Steve McMahon - March 11th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
No bollox, keep the 9 mill, get rid of about 10 so called pro’s on our books ( as we currently have 50 or so pro’s) raise some much needed cash and buy players of proven quality,
Sell the following
Lucas,
Dossena,
Kuyt,
even Babel
etc, etc,etc
And buy or at least try and buy, Augero, Villa, Podolski, etc, etc, etc,
I am sick to the nuts of us buying players that are never heard of again or loaned out while at the same time the first team is crying out for improvement in the attacking department.
Keep Agger, get 2 good attacking fullbacks, a CAM, a right winger and a striker, fill these positions first then consider “the so called one’s for the future”
Donavan Ried - March 12th, 2009 at 11:08 am
Steve McMahon – March 11th, 2009 at 11:40 pm …………… Well siad as always Steve. (sorry,Hi mate, hows things)……. Why do we keep going after ” One’s For The Future” when what is needed is proven quality players for the now is beyoned me…….
mark - March 12th, 2009 at 11:43 am
steve yet again i disagree with you- do you honestly think we will be able to keep villa, torres, aguero and podolski happy and playing regular football, i think not that’s before we even think of the cost of them 3 players. also you said we need to buy ;2 good attacking fullbacks, a CAM, a right winger and a striker. correct me if i’m wrong but that’s 5 new players you want in the first team, do you really think liverpool will change that many first team players, if you do you’re sadly mistaken. however i do agree with going for ‘players for the future’ after we’ve completely built our first team squad.
Steve McMahon - March 12th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
Mark, wouldn’t life be boring if we agreed on everything? or anything in our case.
Good morning Donavan, how’s thing’s.
“do you honestly think we will be able to keep villa, torres, aguero and podolski happy and playing regular football,”
Obviously you hardly think that I want all of them, jesus, 1 would do, and also I will say it again, change the fu_king system for the EPL, play at least 2 up front,
Now dont tell me that Torres or Villa or Torres and Podolski etc, couldnt play together on a regular basis?
“also you said we need to buy ;2 good attacking fullbacks, a CAM, a right winger and a striker.”
Yes correct,
Fullbacks, Arbeloa is not consistent or attack minded enough or basically he dosent have the ability is more like it to overlap and attack on a consistent basis and with confidence.
Insua / Aurellio , ok I will give a little here maybe, but with Insua as first choice and also keep in mind Aurellio’s injury prone. And pls dont say Dossena is there or I will loose all respect for you in an instant.
CAM – when Gerrard is out, who is our quality CAM replacement???????????
And the striker I have answered above.
Over to you……………………………………….
Steve McMahon - March 12th, 2009 at 12:07 pm
Oh and the right winger, even you must realise that Kuyt is not a right winger, so in essence, a top club like LFC dosent have a descent right winger!!!!!!!
This need’s to be sorted asap.
The Man - March 12th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
There’s nothing wrong with buying players for the future, if your 1st team is improving all the time…… And I believe that’s exactly what we’re doing.
EPL is the hardest league in the world, if they give Rafa what he wants we’ll be ruling the league & Europe within two seasons. Mario Vucenic (dodgy pelling) for Roma would be an excellent signing…
Oh yeah…. We do need better (quicker) fullbacks and squad cover. Players like Lucas, Dossena, Degen, etc aren’t up to the job yet (we can’t wait)!! I’d like to see Jay Spearing, Danny Pacheco, Kristian Nemeth, Jordy Bouvwer (dodge spelling) given more opportunities……… One of them could blowup if given the chance!!!
Anonymous - March 12th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
Villa isnt leaving VAlencia when will people face that fact we wont get him! he has a contract until 2014.Podolski is rejoining cologne in d summer for 6m so thats out d window and aguero is 55m so who else will we buy?
Beats me!
Why sell Kuyt hes a good player for liverpool.
Should Sign:
Silva
Ramos(Unhappy at Madrid)
Bring Up Some Reserves
Spearing-Could replace Gerrard in time.
Pacheco-Could be world class learning off Torres
Nemeth-Same as above
Darby-Learn a lot of Carra and Hyypia

To sell Babel and Kuyt would be stupid. He is 20 and he has a good future ahead of him. Kuyt as been flying this season As for Aguero, if Rafa wants to win somthing, we need another striker to play with Torres.
Sell the following
Lucas,
Dossena,

Good evening, I am afraid I cant agree for one simple reason, let’s put it this way. In the 5 year’s Raffa has been in charge, name one bright tallent he has brought through and given a good crack of the whip????
Raffa may be a clever man in the CL but he is in no way a good man manager, I just cant see Babel flourishing under Raffa, I dont think Raffa has the skill’s required to bring the very best out of players, but if he like’s you then no matter what the circumstances are, no matter how a player of his liking is playing, then you wont be taken off, e.g. Kuyt, I have watched this lad so many times baloon balls everywhere except where they should go, his first touch is brutal, he has very little pace and trickery to be playing as a right winger, now he can sometimes get away with it when Gerrard and Torres are on the pitch, but when they are off of it he is very limited, as a winger or as a striker, Let’s put it this way, I think we could do better.
the man who knows what he knows - March 13th, 2009 at 1:48 am
Hi Steve McMahon hope your well mate..
I have to disagree… What do you mean a Good crack of the whip??? Nabil el Zhar has played in quite a few games, Plessis played in a couple and Spearing played in the Real madrid game..Insua has been playing.. Thats not bad eh??? yeh i would like to see Weiji, San Jose, Flora, Saric, Pacheco and Nemeth come through, but you need to blood the youths….this takes time and you can’t just throw them in the deep end…
Steve i just feel You really don’t like Rafa….
And as well as it pains me to say Kuyt needs to go, i love the guy but he just isn’t that good. He’s control is very bad, and his shooting is extremely off the mark. Keep him as a squad player, but if we get 10 mill for him.. Then SELL.
Babel i would keep, but stop playing on the left wing.. he is a striker. Pure and simple. 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup he was amazing. So much raw talent. He is Henry… unfortunately he is the Henry that played for juventus.. Give him time.
there nothing wrong with rafa buying youth Agger and Skrtl are young and they have done pretty well… and i’m sure you never heard of them before.
i do agree with mark, 5 new quality players we have not got the money for. I do think Aguero needs to be a major transfer target. With Ashley Young second, (although he won’t be cheap), if we can’t get him i would like DIEGO CAPEL, LENNON, even Marko Marin who is very very good.
Aguero is the key for me. As i feel Yossi is really starting to play very well, and we don’t seem to miss Gerrard as much as we normally do when he’s playing. Alonso continues to get back to his brilliant self.
red for life - March 13th, 2009 at 1:52 am
i really think Ngog could turn out to be a good signing for us. he has all the abilities of a great striker. Speed, Strength, Height, Two Footed. he just needs to work on his placement, Over all awarness, shielding and passing. He will be interesting to watch next season, i was very impressed in pre season games he played in.
mark - March 13th, 2009 at 7:51 am
steve- before rafa brought in mash he was sitting on the bench at west ham barely getting a game now look at him, insua has been given a chance and has grabbed it with both hands, el zhar has been good since rafa has brought him into the first team and finally torres sure he was a good striker before we bought him but he missed easy chances on a regular basis in the spanish league and look at what he has evolved into- yes credit for improvement should go down to the player but rafa has played his part- good managing don’t you think? and about kuyt- he has a pretty good shot on him actually he has definately improved this season, i can understand your problems with him but don’t criticise parts of his game that’s actually strong it just makes you look like a fool who’s out to put down liverpool at every turn.

Good morning,
“Nabil el Zhar has played in quite a few games, Plessis played in a couple and Spearing played in the Real madrid game..Insua has been playing.. Thats not bad eh??? ”
No personally I think that some of these players have not been used enough, I have seen Kuyt playing a lot, even this season in games when he has had little or no effect on the game, yet stays on the field, right wing at that with El Zhar either on the bench or in the stand.
“yeh i would like to see Weiji, San Jose, Flora, Saric, Pacheco and Nemeth come through, but you need to blood the youths….this takes time and you can’t just throw them in the deep end…”
Ok, so why does he have Lucas on the bench, and nearly always seems to bring him on,??????????????????????? Do you not think that some of the above mentioned should be given the same amount of playing time as our stylish Brazillian Lucas,???? Or like at the start of the season, watching the amazing Dossena on the left side, making a complete mockery of the club???? Had we no better option in the reserves????????
“And as well as it pains me to say Kuyt needs to go, i love the guy but he just isn’t that good. He’s control is very bad, and his shooting is extremely off the mark. Keep him as a squad player, but if we get 10 mill for him.. Then SELL.”
Agreed!!!!!!!
“Babel i would keep, but stop playing on the left wing.. he is a striker. Pure and simple. 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup he was amazing. So much raw talent. He is Henry… unfortunately he is the Henry that played for juventus.. Give him time.”
Correct, but who is going to tell Raffa he is a striker?, how can he play as a striker in a system (4 2 3 1), where we only use 1 striker (Torres)???????
Any idea’s here?????????????????????
I have, use him or loose him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“there nothing wrong with rafa buying youth Agger and Skrtl are young and they have done pretty well… and i’m sure you never heard of them before.”
Ok point made and taken.

No.
“and about kuyt- he has a pretty good shot on him actually ”
A good shot you say, by that I assume that he can shoot from more that 10 yards, convince me, name 10 no f_ck it, name only 5 times in the past 2 or even 3 seasons he has scored from outside the box???????????
Or are we talking about the same player????????
“i can understand your problems with him but don’t criticise parts of his game that’s actually strong it just makes you look like a fool who’s out to put down liverpool at every turn.”
Right, so I am a fool to expect a Liverpool right winger to have a good first touch, speed, some bit of trickery, the ability to stop dead, turn, beat his man and whip in a ball, well f_ck me I am sorry for expecting a winger to do this, I am some arsehole, I dont know what I was thinking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And as a Striker once again I am a fool for expecting a Liverpool striker, to have a good first touch, speed, some bit of trickery, the ability to stop dead, turn, beat his man and shoot at goal, be on target and score, once again I am really sorry for expecting a Liverpool striker to have these basic abilities, god I really am asking too much of our player’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah, but wait, I know he can run all day, well f_ck me, your right, as a Liverpool striker, that’s all you need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it may be you that is sounding like the blind fool sunshine. Open your eyes, pls.
The Man - March 13th, 2009 at 10:29 am
Players like Babel won’t play well for Rafa until he’s moved up top…. strikers are the only people in our team that have freedom (to a degree) and flair players don’t need shackles. Signings…… Ashley Young would be a great signing. Can’t see it happening, price and a stubborn M O’Neil will be stumbling blocks. Lennon would also be good and with Spurs being a selling club it could happen. I think Ilunga at W.Ham or Figureoa at Wigan would be decent Right backs good athletes, strong in the challenge and good going forward. And while we were raiding Wigan lets get Valencia in, In a top team he’d be great. We let Palacios get away, We’ll wait and see what he does for Spurs next season. I still like Vucenic for Roma I think he’d be well suited to the EPL. Kun Aguero & David Silva would be the Jewels in the crown but I don’t believe we have the financial clout to bring them in!!
The Man - March 13th, 2009 at 10:53 am
The Dirk Kuyt debate…. He’s a player that one week everybody would be saying he decent and can do a job, the following week they’d be saying he can’t control his water, lets get rid of him but you’ll never ever hear anybody say he’s not giving 100%!! So for me a good squad player, I’d keep him for now.
The Lucas debate….. He’s a player that you can see has ability but would be better suited playing in Spain or Italy, the pace of the EPL is to quick for him mentally as well as physically. He could come back here at age 26 -28 and be similar to Tugay ie able to spot and execute killer passes. I’d get rid.
Oh yeah… Kerrison for Corinthians that the world and his wife seems to want… Looks good and has a fantastic goal ratio but would he be suited to EPL??
Why take the risk Rafa??
the big i am - March 13th, 2009 at 12:56 pm
hahahaha Steve McMahon told mark!
anyway
i think we should keep Kuyt hes a good squad player for when good ones get injured, rafas good at bringing those in! play Bable more in his position he could be awesome! saw some of his ability in his first season.
I dont know why people think rafa has no funds! ! ! hes spent 190 million since he came!!! at about 38 mill a season we could easily bring in at least one world class player every season! we could get Aguero for about 25-30 mill perfect partner for Torres, hes young only 20 can strike a ball well, got agility, speed and strength has a good eye for the game and is passionate about it too! !! if he can handle teams like blackburn and pompy booting his ankles hel fit right into the EPL!
jimmycarterwingwizard - March 13th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
hey steve mac your getting a bit of flak here lad….attacked from all angles by the all things kuyt appreciation society!
as a right winger I to was under the impression a player was meant to get to the touch line put a decent ball in, dribble fuck even take the man on from time to time….but in kuyts defence he aint a right winger….but an ugly minger…who has the touch of a male baboon who has just had viagra & has woken up to several sexy female baboons gagging for action & baboon banana! my despise of this dutch monster is that he is awful simple as….oh but he has loads of energy errrm what toss! rafas lovetoy never subbed & rarely dropped…when rafa goes lets hope he takes his lovetoy with him….
now for the extermination of r fullbacks please arbeola bleeding shite how many goals down the right side are conceded & as for his man-marking hopeless at best! the left aurelio if fit is a good option whilst insua is the poosible future but as for dossena about as much use as a rafas anti fergie rants! get rid quick.
& as for the Ngog could be a great signing I cant stop laughing please red for life stay of the crack …..
Dave Fairclough my arse looked ever so big in those shorts appreciation society.
steve mac Im with you fella!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
red for life - March 13th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Hi steve
ok lets begin
“No personally I think that some of these players have not been used enough, I have seen Kuyt playing a lot, even this season in games when he has had little or no effect on the game, yet stays on the field, right wing at that with El Zhar either on the bench or in the stand”.
- Not been used enough????? you stated that you can’t think of a youth player that hasn’t had a good crack of the whip. i’ve given you about 4 who have broken throw into the first team. what do you want them doing play all season. they are out YOUTHs, as i said before they need to be blooded in games and not to put to much pressure on them.
Now Kuyt you just can’t chalk off that easy, Kuyt’s got a tendency to score goals at vital moments in important games, such as the last minute strike against Standard Liege, (for us to qualify to play in CL), and an injury time winner against Manchester City on 5 October 2008. He further cemented that reputation by scoring twice in Liverpool’s 3–2 comeback win over Wigan Athletic on 18 October 2008. so the “even this season in games when he has had little or no effect on the game” comment is just a very silly comment to make. I do love Kuyt but as i said if we can sell and bring in someone of aguero quality then do it.
I don’t know if you understand that Rafa wants players who will work there socks off for Liverpool, instead of flair players like Quresma. I mean Torres tackles alot for a CF. and really gets stuck in which i love to see. Never really saw Crouch do that.
“Ok, so why does he have Lucas on the bench, and nearly always seems to bring him on,??????????????????????? Do you not think that some of the above mentioned should be given the same amount of playing time as our stylish Brazillian Lucas,???? Or like at the start of the season, watching the amazing Dossena on the left side, making a complete mockery of the club???? Had we no better option in the reserves????????
Lucus is brought on as a DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER.. last time i looked Weiji, San Jose, Flora, Saric, Pacheco and Nemeth aren’t. As i said before you need to Blood the youths at certain times in the game.
red for life - March 13th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
now Steve some more
Had you seen Dossena while playing for Italy??? its very easy to criticise but he’s getting used to the premiership. Why are you so impatient?? After next season he’s still making mistakes yeh sell him, but give him a chance. Everyone is so over critical so quickly what happened with people giving players chances to settle????
Lucus played as a attacking midfielder for Gremio, but is being asked to play as a defensive midfielder for us. He will make mistakes, but he’s young. From the way i read what your saying if some players don’t play well in a couple of games SELL THEM… well Aurelio didn’t have a particulaly great season, (he didn’t play that much and when he did he looked slow), but this season he has played some great games.
“steve- before rafa brought in mash he was sitting on the bench at west ham barely getting a game now look at him, insua has been given a chance and has grabbed it with both hands, el zhar has been good since rafa has brought him into the first team and finally torres sure he was a good striker before we bought him but he missed easy chances on a regular basis in the spanish league and look at what he has evolved into- yes credit for improvement should go down to the player but rafa has played his part- good managing don’t you think?”
“No.”
Why can you not give Rafa the credit he deserves here, instead of criticing. You talk about who has Raf developed, well Torres and Masch are great examples. yeh Torres was good but he’s better playing now. Oh but i forgot that if a player doesn’t play very well for the first season sell them…. I bet West Ham are well pleased they passed there loan of the Monster Masch over to us….
“A good shot you say, by that I assume that he can shoot from more that 10 yards, convince me, name 10 no f_ck it, name only 5 times in the past 2 or even 3 seasons he has scored from outside the box???????????”
ARE YOU MAD MAN…. name me 3 goals LINEKER, one of the hoighest goal scorers of ENGLAND has scored outside the box all his career. He’s still rated as one of the best strikers in English history… who cares if its scored with his left fot, right foot, head, neck, ass a goal is a goal, and i have just stated the important goals he scored.
“Right, so I am a fool to expect a Liverpool right winger to have a good first touch, speed, some bit of trickery, the ability to stop dead, turn, beat his man and whip in a ball, well f_ck me I am sorry for expecting a winger to do this, I am some arsehole, I dont know what I was thinking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
no your not a fool for that, but your a IDIOT for not understanding that we can’t afford a amazing winger in the likes of messi, ronaldo.. i mean good even lennon can’t cross. Kuyt is making the best of what he can do and he isn’t doing that bad for a striker…so leave off mate
LOOK STEVE UNDERSTAND AS YOU NEED TO GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEAD….. WE DON’T HAVE THE MONEY….. GET THIS THROUGH YOUR THINK HEAD… IF WE DID HOW WONDRFUL IT WOULD BE LIKE TO HAVE RONALDO, MESSI, VILLA, AGUERO, BUFFON, KAKA….ETC
Now if you don’t have 100 billion to buy Liverpool, shut you F###ing moaning lets get back to reality and just get behind Rafa…
i hope the man who knows what he knows and mark don’t mind me answering those questions. Stupidity just really angers me.
IRONSTOMACH - March 13th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
red for life, you got lots of valuable points there. i am learning to ignore ’steve mcmahon’. he’s one of those who just thinks sack rafa and suddenly the EPL will fall on your lap. i mean we all know rafa is not perfect and the team’s not the finished article. realistically, the team has improved but the mcmahon camp will go on and on…5 years, nothing to show. gosh…
i won’t even waste my breathe arguing with him.
IRONSTOMACH - March 13th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Oh ya…Red for Life, for the McMahon camp, they are just Chelsea’s sugar daddy in disguise. Mourinho won them the EPL title twice but they would lament yet there is no Champions League title to show for it. For them, Rafa won them the Champions League and with might I add very limited resources. Yet they would lament on and on about EPL as if we all here don’t care.
Gosh…i don’t even bother reading his boring usual tune – sack rafa. goodness…i mean I don’t think we are simply blinded simply because of Instanbul which he seems to think we are. Of course we are frustrated when we can’t beat teams like Boro, Stoke yet we can demolish Real Madrid in style. He doesn’t get it that Rafa like every manager will make mistakes. Yes of course they were some dodgy buys. Yes of course he wasn’t very prudent and wise in his earlier outburst against Man Scum. Yet he wouldn’t acknowledge the players he spotted right like Masch, Torres, Agger, Skrytel, etc. I think overall as a picture, Rafa ought to be given more time and the team has gradually improved. I don’t see Rafa slacking or losing the bottle for a fight.
Anyway….I am sure we will be hearing his usual tune again soon. Even if we win 5-0 against Man U tomorrow!!!
red for life - March 13th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
ironstomach well done mate…. it really just annoys me when “so called fans” just criticise… ok we’re not playing the way i like and i don’t always agree with Rafa, but please lets look at the positives. I feel we’re getting better and better each season, and this is all on relatively small budget compared to other big boys.
GOD we beat REAL MADRID and steve and that Donovan guy just criticise… man like you said even if we beat united 10 nil they will still moan….
Sacking Rafa will get us no where right now… and if you ask Steve McMahon he prob say “yes he’s got it wrong, and this is wrong”, but who does Steve think we should get to replace him…..
Anyway you take care iron stomach, my fingers are killing me.i think we’ll do it tommorow…
red for life - March 13th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
oh and Donovan we go for “ones for the future” because we can’t afford the top class players. god people are dumb….. LIVERPOOL HAVE NOT GOT THE MONEY>>>>>>>>>
IRONSTOMACH - March 14th, 2009 at 12:31 am
Red for Life…you are spot on! The Donovans, McMahons will just go on and on. They call us blind supporters of Rafa but I suspect they are just bunch of kids hoping for instant win so they have bragging rights the next day at their Kinder!
They just don’t GET IT! What Rafa experienced at Valencia – that he wanted a table and at times got a chair is still happening at Liverpool. Keane clearly wasn’t what he wanted but credit to Rafa, he backed him to the hilt until clearly Keane’s head was turned in January. He had to let him loose and cut the loses. Keane expects to be the next Dalglish and walk into the team. I mean statistics don’t lie! He started almost every match in the first half of the season and goal ratio is poor. Not to mention the lack of impact as a striker for many of the games. Sure Keane’s work rate is top notch but not exactly inspiring in the mold of Berkamp or Dalglish! You can’t call Ngog shit and compared it to him because Keane cost 20 million. Ngog was almost free. Okay….I am not pro Barry too. Not for 18 million but if that’s his man and if he had gotten him and failed, then that’s a different story. But of course McMahon just don’t get the logic.
He keeps on lamenting that we are defensive and boring against Fulham. Obviously he doesn’t really play much football to begin with. He thinks just because you put down on paper 4-4-2, automatically you have flying wingers by the by-lines. You play 4-3-3, you are going to be stylish and attacking like Arsenal. Look plenty of teams play 4-4-2. Or 4-3-3. My pub team plays 4-4-2 and our wingers couldn’t even run faster than my granny who is on wheelchair! Point is that you only can do so much with the players you got. Of course formation matters but if you have Everton’s players or Bolton’s, make it 4-3-3 and they are not suddenly going to be another Barcelona! You could play 4-5-1 but if you have Henri, Eto’o, Torres, Gerrard, Messi; as Shankly would say, ‘they would need to send a team from mars to play them!’
The sack Rafa camp keeps thinking we are being overly positive and blind. Maybe so! But look, if you sack Rafa, what’s the alternative? Fergie who I think is the better option is NOT coming. Mourinho? Look at this Inter side against Man U. Doesn’t instill much confidence that he is the ’special one’. At least Rafa’s side outplayed Man U earlier in Anfield and have the result to show for it. Point is that…Man U is miles ahead, I mean not just a street ahead. Look at their playing staff. Not many teams have Tevez, Hargreaves, Carrick sitting on the bench. Look at Liverpool’s bench on the evening when they did so well against Real Madrid. There is no comparison. Man U not only have numbers but world class quality throughout. We need injection of cash to compete. That’s the reality these days in order to catch up. They don’t realize since the Souness’ years, we have been left so far behind for all these time.
They keep lamenting that Rafa look good because of dependence on key players like Carragher, Gerrard or Torres. What kind of argument is that? Of course! Who wouldn’t? Take Rooney, Ronaldo, Ferdinand out of Man U’s side, you think Fergie would look that good? Take Anelka, Lampard, Drogba, Essien and Terry out of Chelsea’s side. What do they get? Point is that Rafa got these players like Torres and Masch and I feel it’s in Liverpool – they improved so much. Same applies to Gerrard and Carragher. Don’t you think so? I could never remember our midfield and defence to be that solid since the Souness era. That’s to be frank. Yet…they call us blind.
Finally, take a look at Wenger’s record. He’s been given all the time and support. It took him how long to mold the team to play this way? I think at least 8 years! Remember how he started with teh English backline and Seaman in goal? Sure they had Pires, Overmars but it wasn’t flying like what we see today. Sure they won stuff and played some smashing football but it took a while to reach where they are now. It took Fergie frankly more than 10 years to actually play in a dominant style as we see today. Before then they too relied on several individuals with great presence such as Scholes, Schmiecel, Giggs, Cantona, Beckham, etc. Over time, they build wisely now they are a monster! Of course we are too blind to realize that. We think just because of Shankly, Paisley, Fagan, Dalglish’s successes, automatically everything will be instant because of our history. Look at Real Madrid. Look at Chelsea. If any lesson to be learned for there are at least 2 things. First, Chelsea shouldn’t have sack Mourinho. Real Madrid perhaps should have stuck on with Capello but of course even when he won them the league, he was too boring! Secondly, there is no stability. Sure, Chelsea got Scolari and Madrid have hosts of others, but what do they get? Not instant success but more discontentment.
Of course we are too blind to see all that. If Rafa’s side is languishing in 6th to 7th, crash out of CL in the group stages for 2 season running – I can understand. They don’t realize there is no such thing as instant success. Well, rare. It takes a lot of time to build and not forgetting successful sides like Man U are going from strength to strength. That said…of course we all want the EPL, the CL, the FA Cup, the Carling Cup..any shit cups that are out there. You got to give credit to Rafa however for taking the club which I feel in the right direction though it’s not as prompt as some feel it ought to be which is instant!

jimmycarterwingwizard – March 13th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
Night jimmy, look’s like I am getting a bit of flak alright, I appreciated the baboon analagy.
As with the rest oy ye, what can I say, some of ye are talking so much horseshite.
Some of ye talk so muck bollox about LFC having no money etc etc, yet we have spent nearly 190 million over 5 years, yet the comments are flying “we dont have any money” , we have one of the biggest squads in the EPL when it comes to first team squad and reserves, 50 or so pro’s yet we still dont have a quality first team squad. I will tell you why, because Raffa bought the f_cking clown’s.
This muck about some of us been negative, etc etc, it’s the f_cking reality, something that a lot of ye moron’s fail to grasp, ye probably still look at the old videos of Shank’s and Bob’s teams and just imagine that they are Raffa’s team, sitting there on the couch smoking the wacky backy watching the opposition GK reaching for a cup of tea and a biscuit while the crowd at the back of the Kop duck because Kuyt is about to shoot, and yet ye still think that he is a great player for LFC and deserves credit for running atround like a f_cking greyhound chasing a rabbit but never catching him.
Oh yeah Ironstomach, you do really talk some bollox,
“i mean I don’t think we are simply blinded simply because of Instanbul which he seems to think we are.”
Where the f_ck did you get this idea from, your last magic mushroom ????????
“He doesn’t get it that Rafa like every manager will make mistakes.”
No you f_cking plank, you dont get the point that he keeps making the same mistakes over and over again, does our great leader have the momory of a f_cking goldfish???????? that he cant learn from his previous mistake???? or is he chewing on the same batch of the magic mush that you are???
“Yet he wouldn’t acknowledge the players he spotted right like Masch, Torres, Agger, Skrytel, etc.
5 – 0 ??? f_ck me lad they really are strong mushrooms you are chewing, you would want to take it easy sunshine
Red for life!!!!!!!!
“god people are dumb
Yeah you can f_ck yourself into that bracket as well pal,
and just a small example as to why,,,,,,,,
“Had you seen Dossena while playing for Italy???”
Who gives a f_ck what he like playing for Italy, it’s what he like playing for LFC that I give a shit about you plank.
Goodnight…………………………………………………
IRONSTOMACH - March 14th, 2009 at 3:01 am
Red for life…see what i mean? When did we ever say Dossena is great? He can’t even string a simple argument together. Just f_ck here and there. Gosh….I thought my English’s bad. Man….just ignore him. He is probably a Man U fan in disguise. Anyway….I’ve decided to ignore him.
rad for life - March 14th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
ha ha ha ha ha you prick steve McMahon…… WE BEAT UNITED 4 GOALS TO 1. OH RAFA DOESN’T KNOW WHAT HE’S DOING…… oh and who scored the last goal…… oh Steve mate you make me laugh……and yes i have to stand by the comment of youu being Dumb….
red for life - March 14th, 2009 at 3:05 pm

IRONSTOMACH - March 14th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
Red for Life, ignore McMahon? Well, I will after this post.
McMahon, you are one real prick! So what’s next, oh you guru of football! Sure, it wasn’t 5-0 but it could have been 6-1!!!! Tell you what. Stick to ballet, will ya? Oh yes and stop pretending as though you are a Liverpool supporter. Just come out and admit you are a Manure fan. We all know you are one.
Before the match, I would have settled for a 1-0 win but 4-1, that’s incredible. I hope that lift every other team’s spirit up that Manure are beatable even at Old Toilet.
mark - March 15th, 2009 at 5:37 am
steve you seem to be misundedstanding my posts maybe it’s you that is on the mushrooms. just because you think kuyt has’nt scored from outside the box he’s shit is in your own words horseshite. van nistelrooy hardly ever scored from outside the box and look at him…. and by simply saying no to what i said;“steve- before rafa brought in mash he was sitting on the bench at west ham barely getting a game now look at him, insua has been given a chance and has grabbed it with both hands, el zhar has been good since rafa has brought him into the first team and finally torres sure he was a good striker before we bought him but he missed easy chances on a regular basis in the spanish league and look at what he has evolved into- yes credit for improvement should go down to the player but rafa has played his part- good managing don’t you think?”
“No.”
this shows that you have no proof and simply can’t face the facts, rafa has brought alot of good to our club and by simply coming out saying fuck me, christ you fucking plank proves nothing but you being a blind twat.
and to ironstomach and red for life i disagree with you ignoring steve mcmahon because he cracks me up the way he comes on here swearing thinking he knows everything….
IRONSTOMACH - March 15th, 2009 at 10:20 am
Mark…you are right. That’s a bit harsh ignoring Steve McMahon. We need amusement from time to time.
On a separate note. I agree with your point about some of the good Rafa did bring to Liverpool. Well said.
red for life - March 15th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
yeh you guys are right… Sorry Steve. You are good for a laugh….
LFC "Supporter" - March 15th, 2009 at 10:52 pm

“When did we ever say Dossena is great?”
Found a friend have we, “WE” learn to stand on your own feet lad.
Now to your point’s if that’s what they are,
Firstly, when or where did I post that you said Dossena was or is great??????????
Answer this question pls.
Secondly, “He is probably a Man U fan in disguise.” Yeah right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where did you get this from as it does seem that you are a bit of a walter mitty, that little noggin of your’s must of taken a hard knock recently, get it looked at lad.
rad for life – March 14th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
“WE BEAT UNITED 4 GOALS TO 1. OH RAFA DOESN’T KNOW WHAT HE’S DOING……”
I see from your “RAD FOR LIFE” post that you were posting as someone else recently, it would appear that Red for life and IRONSTOMACH are the one person, that sad lad’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
” you have stated that we beat united 4 goals to 1″ – I know we beat manure 4 -1, so what are you saying???????? Do you want to be a sports newsreader or what????????? you are not making any sense telling me the score of the match, I saw the match myself, but thank’s anyway, I surpose…………
Also who said that Raffa dosent know what he is doing???????????????
Lad you are just not making any sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
“oh Steve mate you make me laugh……and yes i have to stand by the comment of youu being Dumb….”
Yeah right, ok, whatever float’s your boat…………………………… you big intellect……..
IRONSTOMACH – March 14th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
Red for Life, ignore McMahon? Well, I will after this post
Right, so now you are talking to yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clever boy………….
“McMahon, you are one real prick! ”
Likewise to the prick comment. Once again your madness start’s with the guru stuff, “wher are you getting this from walter????????”
And the ballet, once again wher are you getting it from???????? Walter………..
And the pretending I am a Liverpool supporter and manure thing, ahmmm, no comment walter other than I think you just need your medication sonny………

mark – March 15th, 2009 at 5:37 am
“. just because you think kuyt has’nt scored from outside the box he’s shit is in your own words horseshite.
No Mark once again you are wrong, it was just one example of many with regards to my issue’s with Kuyt, but you seem to just glorify one comment and try to generalise and prempt my opinion, but you are wrong.
“van nistelrooy hardly ever scored from outside the box and look at him….” you cant be serious???????? you are trying to compare the horse to Kuyt when it comes to goalscoring, and I am only too well aware that the horse scored most of his goals from 2 yard’s out, but there is no comparison with both of these of players when it comes to goalscoring, the horse is streak’s ahead.
And if you are going to say the Kuyt dosent play as a striker for us, which is correct and he is not a winger, then where would you like to play him??????? been as though we play with only 1 up front and that position is for Torres.
” and by simply saying no to what i said;“steve- before rafa brought in mash he was sitting on the bench at west ham barely getting a game now look at him,”
This was a no brainer, Masch had just played a fantastic world cup the previous year, the madness here was why Taggert or Wenger didnt go for him, it was pure madness for Masch to be on the bench at West Ham.
” insua has been given a chance and has grabbed it with both hands,” the only reason Insua got his chance was due to the brutal displays Dossena had put in for us and Aurellio was injured, plus how many games has Insua played for us this year in total???????? I like Insua, he should get more of a chance, but you are mistaking if you think that this was down to the great tactical mind of our leader.
“el zhar has been good since rafa has brought him into the first team ” Yes he has been good and inadvertantly you have made a point for me, have you not seen games this season with Kuyt been very ineffective on the wing for the full 90 mins and wondered why didn’t he bring on El Zhar???????????
“finally torres sure he was a good striker before we bought him but he missed easy chances on a regular basis in the spanish league and look at what he has evolved into- ”
Gerrard has made Torres not Raffa, sorry Mark.
IRONSTOMACH - March 16th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Yyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaawwwnnnn……Steve McMahon is telling jokes again.
Donavan Ried - March 17th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
Hi Steve Mc Mahon, Coggin, 9torres….. Where to start……
red for life – March 13th, 2009 at 5:46 pm ……….
“oh and Donovan we go for “ones for the future” because we can’t afford the top class players. god people are dumb….. LIVERPOOL HAVE NOT GOT THE MONEY>>>>>>>>>”……………. We(LFC) have money to spend, but we would have a great deal more if Rafa would stop Pissing it away on “Players for the future” and there wages of the now………
IRONSTOMACH – March 14th, 2009 at 12:31 am ……….
“Red for Life…you are spot on! The Donovans, McMahons will just go on and on. They call us blind supporters of Rafa but I suspect they are just bunch of kids hoping for instant win so they have bragging rights the next day at their Kinder!” ………… LOL……Did you think of that one all by yourself?… Or did mummy help you?
IRONSTOMACH – March 14th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
“Red for Life, ignore McMahon? Well, I will after this post.
McMahon, you are one real prick! So what’s next, oh you guru of football! Sure, it wasn’t 5-0 but it could have been 6-1!!!! Tell you what. Stick to ballet, will ya? Oh yes and stop pretending as though you are a Liverpool supporter. Just come out and admit you are a Manure fan. We all know you are one.” ………… The win was great, and I am sure Steve will say so too,but It will mean nothing when we go out and lose, or draw our next two or three games will it??
Steve McMahon – March 12th, 2009 at 8:41 pm …………….
“Raffa may be a clever man in the CL but he is in no way a good man manager, I just cant see Babel flourishing under Raffa, I dont think Raffa has the skill’s required to bring the very best out of players”……… How very true
the big i am – March 13th, 2009 at 12:56 pm ……………
“I dont know why people think rafa has no funds! ! ! hes spent 190 million since he came!!! at about 38 mill a season we could easily bring in at least one world class player every season!”…….. Try telling some supports this like red for life,”god people are dumb”
red for life – March 13th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
“ironstomach well done mate…. it really just annoys me when “so called fans” just criticise… ok we’re not playing the way i like and i don’t always agree with Rafa, but please lets look at the positives.”………. Now this attitude always annoys me, it is like when poeple say “Let’s not talk about what’s wrong with England ,Let’s talk about what’s right ……. I believe that the “right” speaks for itself, and that you need to address the wrong in order to fix it.
Rock of Anfield – March 12th, 2009 at 5:29 pm……………… “sell Babel” As good as Bable could be if Rafa is not going to use him then sell him and put the money towards someone we are going to use….
Had Gérard Houllier been in charge of this squad we would have maybe won the Premier already with the style of football that LFC can play for at least under Gérard Houllier he tried, FA cup 2000/01 League Cup 2000/01+2002/03 FA Charity Shield 2001 Uefa 2001 and Super Cup 2001, that six Trophies under Houllier, Five in one year, plus a second in the Premier league,Under Rafa FA Charity Shield 2006, FA CUP 2005/06, Super Cup 2004/05, Champions League 2004/05, ok The champoins League is better that the Uefa cup but my point here is thats four Trophies vs six and apart from the champions League we always look beatable in any of the other Cups no matter the who we are playing……. Unlike a lot of you who choose to stick your heads in the sand some of us out there know what is up with this club and are willing to say so, and are not buying in to the Rafa/ LFC no money B.S. He as had the Money and wasted a great part of it….. And Did they ( The owners) stop Rafa buying players because he wanted to pay over the top for Barry?……… And did anybody hear what Rafa said about the Premier League title???……. “We must now try and win all our remaining games”!!!!! WTF, So he was not trying to win the games before???
TEDSUZUKI - March 19th, 2009 at 12:28 am
Uhmmm….new to this site and trying to catch up with all the read. Donovan, you are saying Rafa isn’t trying? I could be wrong but it seems to me that though clearly there are rooms for improvement, I would say Liverpool has made great strides forward.
Sure, I cringe at times wondering why Liverpool is so overly conservative in games against the so called lesser sides. Not sure if that’s more to do with a mind thing that Liverpool just need the type of win against Real Madrid and Manure to spur them on that they can press more adventurously in the future. I mean in the older days with Houllier in charge (which I think he did a decent job by the way); clearly the whole team is extremely conservative and predictable. They will have to go through Gerrard, Owen and Heskey. Once they are suppressed, that’s the end of Liverpool. So back then, it seems to me, no matter how hard they try – clearly the team was limited by ability.
Under Rafa, it seems like that they have the ability but what’s lacking is the confidence. I can’t imagine Souness, Evans, Houllier’s teams making the sort of impact in Europe compared to Rafa’s team. Sure, EPL is the crowning jewel and I agree. I think the reality is that it might take longer to get there than what we are prepared to wait for.
I really hope the recent win against Real Madrid and Manure will set the tone for the future that perhaps they can press lesser sides more and with greater urgency.
(Steve McMahon, your outburst against some here like Ironstomach and Red for life is very funny to read. By any chance, could you and Donovan and Jimmy carter wizzard guy be all the same person too? Just wondering)
