Liverpool set for AUDACIOUS £18.5m MIDFIELD MAGICIAN bid!
by Mr Comfort on March 26th, 2009 59 commentsThis well respected source thinks that these Spanish giants will swoop for a member of Rafa B’s side.
Florentino Perez has admitted defeat in his pursuit of Steven Gerrard.
Nevertheless, the prospective Real Madrid president still has his sights set on another Liverpool player: Xabi Alonso. Perez believes that he can sign the Liverpool midfielder for a fee in the region of €20 million – a sum that may appeal to Rafa, who could use the funds to sign Gareth Barry. As I explained here yesterday, Liverpool do not currently have a fixed transfer budget of £30 million set aside for this summer – nobody at the club is talking about this figure. (guillembalague.com)
So it seems clear that if Rafa wants Gareth Barry then not just for financial reasons but also so there is a spot in the team for the Villa man it would negate the need to sell Xabi. Alonso is a better player in my view but Benitez showed in the summer that he was prepared to let the Spaniard leave to finance the deal for Barry which never went through. If Real Madrid did offer the Liverpool boss that kind of money i think i would agree with Guillem on this, that the boss would probably take it. What do the fans think?

Keep Alonso, as he’s having a great season. we need a quality right sided winger and CB cover if Agger buggers off.
Mel - March 26th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
After watching Alonso dominate the midfield against Villa last Sunday I ask why do we need Barry, Lucas can go no problems but lets keep Alonso. I agree Barry is a left sided midfield player, but on the last 3 performances would he get in the team , personally I dont think so, As a season ticket holder for many years I can say this is the best squad we have had for a long time and we need 3 players, another right back for cover, a striker to play with Torres or cover if he is injured and a right winger,
josh - March 26th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
Keep Alonso and with Silva probaby on the way then great
georger - March 26th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
No way would Alonso ever play for Madrid. He is a diehard Basque, won’t happen.

and real madrid wonder why everyone hates them…cocksukers. Their presidents should just play fifa/pes/football manager so they can buy whoever they want
ruuusssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhh - March 26th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Rafa really likes Barry, thets for sure but if Rafa can still honestly be considering selling Alonso to fund his move then there is something going on we don’t know about. Is Alonso homesick? I dont think so, Xabi has repeatedly been reported as saying that he loves Liverpool. Is he not playing well? Mabey last year but this year he has been our rock in midfield. Does he not get on with Rafa? Seems unlikely, the’re both Spanish and Alonso seems like a placid fellow. I seriously think that if Liverpool do go back in for Barry it wont be at the loss of Alonso. Barry’s contract has one year to run at the end of this season so his inflated 18m price tag from last summer will be at least half of that, 6-9m.
Now if Rafa was to be offered 20m for Xabi and only had to pay 6m for Barry, then he’d only have to add 10m or so to get Silva. So in essence Rafa would spend 10m, get a ready replacement for Alonso and a brilliant winger. Is that good buisness? Mabey. We’d lose Xabi’s fantastic steady performances in the middle but gain Silva’s enigmatic creativity on the flanks and still have the solid Barry. It may be worth thinking about.
Having said that I would hate Alonso to go.
Kamster - March 26th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Just get rid of the dross – Lucas, Dossena, Ngog, Voronin, Plessis add Kuyt, and Agger if he wants to go. That should bring in £40m Bring in David Silva, Aguerro or Kerrison. Albiol if Agger leaves and a quality RB – cost £60m.
Team GK Reina/ Cavillieri, RB Arbeloa/Darby (time to blood him) and Carra when needed, CB – Carra, Skrtel, Hyppia and Agger/Albiol, LB – Aurelio, Insua and Carra if we need him, RM – Silva, Babel or Gerrard, CM – Alonso, Mascherano, Gerrard, Spearing (time to blood him), LM – Reira, Babel or Silva, Upfront – Torres, Gerrard, Augerra / Kerrison, Pacheco (time to blood him) and Nemeth (time to blood him)
This team would destroy anyone and add to the team and its depth. Pacheco, Silva, Kerrison, Aguerro would give us the trickery that we have missed this season whilst keeping the Spine strong and adding to it. Come on you reds time to take our title back and keep it where it belongs…….
scouser in the states - March 26th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Rafa was up for selling Alonso last summer after a dissappointed season of mediocre performances and injury.
This season Alonso has returned to his best form, playing the way that he did when he was first signed. There’s no way Rafa will sell him. Rafa sold Keane because of Alonso.
In my opinion, Keane wasnt played coz Alonso dominated the midfield position keeping Stevie G playing off Torres and removing the need for Keane.
Also $20 million???… he’s worth $35 million if Robinho is worth $32.
Enja - March 26th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Am i the only one who doesnt think we should sign barry, because alonso should end his career at liverpool. YNWA
gb - March 26th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
keep alonso, why change smthing that’s working ? we all was wat hap regarding keane..so no risks abt changing ALonso for Barry. instead,Rafa shud get us a clinical striker even if expensive, quality shud b good.(David Villa is the ideal match for torres..but money might b z prob)
TEDSUZUKI - March 26th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Mascherano and Alonso provides a platform for players like Gerrard and Torres to attack with confidence. I doubt Rafa is that blind to see that unless of course RM offers something in the region of 25-30 mill. Otherwise, I don’t see him leaving. Chances are that this is just another piece of paper talk hoping to churn a few more sales by getting the fickle Real Madrid fans to buy.
By the way, so far only O’Neill himself has said Barry can go if he wants to. Rafa did not indicate anything. No one is. Only the papers are putting the two together. I seriously don’t think Rafa is interested anymore. Yes…I am all for Lucas to be sold if we need to raise any cash for next season. Not Alonso, Masch, Riera, Kuyt, Yossi.
Red - March 26th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
100% agreed with Mel, spot on, a RB (Arbeloa is slow and not aggressive enough), Striker (to play along Torres to take some heat off him) and a RW (needed badly, if we had a natural winger instead of asking Arbeloa to be one, we would be well ahead of the scums by now). Rafa never got the RW sorted out in the last 5 years, pretty frustrating and he jolly well concentrate on this one. That’s all we need. Rafa at times fiddles too much with his purchases, he needed to concentrate on his priorities. Yup, Lucas can go anytime, he tried as much as he could but he’s just too slow and soft for the EPL. Why do we need Barry when we have 3 world class midfielders, I can’t understand Rafa. And why does he need to buy more defenders when we have enough already that may force Agger to leave. He’s just upsetting the players and rocking the boat too much at times. Rafa, please concentrate more on where the priorities are.
Please also get your scouts to go to the lower divisions, i’m sure there are diamonds waiting to be polished, please go back to the old ways of scouting for talents, not only knowing how to spend millions on a player and for that we don’t need scouts to do that we can throw Rafa a long list of names and more importantly we don’t have a bottomless pit of resources and we have to spend wisely. What about our youngsters? I’m sure 2 or 3 of them are good enough to get onto the 1st team, we have to give them a chance like how we discovered God and Stevie, we need to give them a chance, othrwise they’ll never develope, maybe get them to train more often with the 1st team to gain more confidence. I strongly believe we are just 3 players short of winning the EPL.

Barry for LFC ??? You must be kidding. He reiterated when he stayed back at AV that his love for the club is undying. Besides he was the one who said ” Will stop LFC in attaining the PL Championship.” So, forget him !!!
Yathin - March 27th, 2009 at 5:28 am
Gareth Barry – the midfield magician?? You must be kidding…..
Yas - March 27th, 2009 at 6:43 am
Barry is no magician… But he is solid and will bring passion to the team just like Carra and Gerrard does…. He would give us depth and be the perfect player to have on the bench as he covers Xabi/Masch as well as Aurelio/Insua positions…. Hope by getting him we can finally get rid of Dossena and Lucas…. The latter I feel Is useless and every time he makes a tackle its a foul…
Our Targets should be Silva to play Right wing as he does for spain, Cover for left wing and Behind the striker WHEN NEEDED. Johnson at right back as cover for Arbeloa and eventually making that spot his own. Barry as cover for xabi/Masch and left back, and Owen to come in on free transfer to cover for Torres/if not and Rafa wants to break the bank on a young talent then in will come either Kerrison/That youngstar from atletico
Thats all we need… If sami stays and we sign johnson at right back I don’t see us getting another CB for another year. I don’t see Agger leaving this summer. Cos he wouldn’t want to be on the other end of the next hiding we give real and I guess he realises now that he’s in a better team.
Ray Pugh - March 27th, 2009 at 10:39 am
For me it would have to be at least £25 million to even think about it….and then I might tell to fcuk off.
Although I’d probably do a Robben and Saviola plus £10 million deal then get Barry for less than £10 million…..very unlikely though
Steve Bradshaw (Liverpool Fan) - March 27th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
Keep Alonso – Liverpool fans kept happy
Sell Lucas – Liverpool fans kept happy
Buy Barry – Rafa happy
Fans would be happy as Lucas gone Alonso stay and Barry would add much better strength in depth than Lucas currently offers.
Everyone except Lucas is a winner…………..
LFC "Supporter" - March 27th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
Why does everyone thinks that we should and could go for Aguero. Well i’ll admit he’s good which would make him really expensive. If u said this 2 seasons ago i would have agreed Aguero could be bought but now what is his worth??? 50 million. Must be around there if not higher since he is THAT highly rated.
Getting Barry shouldn’t be that much of a problem really. If we get him, he’ll probably start ahead of Alonso. But Alonso won’t moan about not getting the opportunity of starting. Instead he’ll work extra to prove he’d deserve the place in the starting XI. I think he said before why does everyone thinks he’ll have to leave if Barry comes since they are different players, even though they are in similar positions. Only risk is that if Barry loses his starting XI place, he might sulk. But hopefully he is a good enough proffesional.
Takes more pressure of Lucas since he’ll be used less unless Liverpool are winning by the 60th minute. Then he’d have more confidence playing. Anyone a Liverpoo Supporter should know how Lucas plays on a good day, no matter how inconsistently bad he performs for us. Which means he can do it.
josh - March 27th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
I got some news regarding David Silva , Liverpool are still very keen to sign but only if Valencia meet them haf way . Valencia set David Silva price at 30m when talks first started beetween them and Liverpool but they then dropped their price to 26m but Liverpool are only prepared to pay 22m Rafa wants a deal to be done at the 22m but if Valencia agree a deal at 24m will be done very soon
Paul - March 27th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
Red you are off again, the other month it was sack Rafa, now its he messes with players and plays Arbelo as RW? what drugs are you on?
Arbelo has had a cracking season when not injured and gets better every game as a RB.What player has Rafa quoted on buying to actually rock the boat?
As for right wing Dirk as added balance to the team and come up with 10 goals of great importance.Either the first goal or they have been the winning goal.
You are all guilty of believing the press yet again , untill we actually go in for someone why slag the player/Rafa off?
Lucas will be a decent player if the team carried on being more attacking like over the last month,he actually had a good game against United and still you call for him to go, and the end of the day he is our 4th choice midfielder.
We are running utd close something we have not done for 20 years, so get behind the team not slag them off.
Fickle fans stay away
Paul - March 27th, 2009 at 6:19 pm
Oh and as for gems in the lower league and reserve players do you actually think that if they did play fans like you would be on their back and Rafas the minute they put a foot wrong.
He can not win Lucas,Benni and Ngog are all subject to you boo boys and it doesnt help them or the team.
If we are not winning 5-0 at half time all you jester hat wearing mongs are booing.

lfc for life - March 27th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
players like lucas arbeloa dossena are not worthy to be in a liverpool team. we need silva although ive heard that rafa is no more interested. we need a high quality rm. i’d go for hleb. let babel play as the cover for torres. spearing is a fantastic player as well as darby. in case gerrard gets injured we have yossi we can have silva behind torres. villa is too expensive.
lfc for life - March 27th, 2009 at 7:37 pm
the best player this season after gerrard is alonso. he’s not old. he’s fantastic then why do we need to sell him. barry is good but not great like alonso. he can be a good replacement for lucas and dossena though as he can play in both positions.. but 17million for a bench warmer is too hot.
TEDSUZUKI - March 27th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
Josh, Rafa has already come out saying Liverpool will not be signing Silva. For whatever reasons, that’s that!
Yup…Alonso should stay. Barry is not magician at all but he can do a job in the squad. Agree with lfc for life that 17-18 mill to warm the bench is not prudent use of resources. That said, I don’t think Rafa WILL pay that amount again given his contract will run out very soon. I suspect more like 8-9 mill, that’s all. Or maybe even slightly less. Alonso wouldn’t be going anywhere unless like Agger, he refuses to commit. That’s unlikely to happen.
As for Agger, I think he’s probably the most likely of the lot to be the one going.
mark - March 28th, 2009 at 1:49 am
rafa has come out and said ‘we will not be signing david silva’. he also stated that he is unsure on his targets this summer, so any talk of us signing barry etc and selling alonso, dossena and lucas is merely that, just talk. i don’t see many comings and goings this summer however, as rafa won’t want to wreck the balance of his team there may be a few players here and there but i’m not expecting a spending spree, like ferguson said he is.
DOWNUNDER - March 28th, 2009 at 3:11 am
Yeah…Mark, spot on. No one knows really. It’s best to sit back and watch. I trust Rafa and his team to choose what’s best for Liverpool. If they feel Silva is not a target, I am sure they must have their reasons as much as I would love to see him come.
dibbler - March 28th, 2009 at 8:01 am
we dont need to sell alonso because who would replace him? he is fairly young, experienced, quality with a brilliant attitude it would cost more than 20m to replace him.
IRONSTOMACH - March 28th, 2009 at 11:32 am
Alonso in my opinion is not replaceable. There is not many who has his attitude and ability other than Xavi, Ineista of Barcelona. Other than that, I really can’t think of anybody who can replace him. Hence, I hope Rafa do not sell him.
Barry will be a nice addition to the squad but not at the recent summer’s price tag. If Barry is worth 18 million, then Alonso would probably in the 28 million mark. Barry is good but Alonso is class.
Ken - March 28th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
just sign david villa this summer
apple dave - March 28th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
firstly how dare anyone say that lucas should be sold. he has amazing potential and IS potentially are best player of the future. all he needs is time. for heavens sake hes only 22. its unfair that fans are booing him as that’s not helping anyone and is completely selfish of them. it will only knock his confidence and maybe hinder the progression of his developement. lucas will one day be a midfield master class up there in the ranks of pavel nedved and torsten frings. he’s our best young player capable of reaching world class since steven gerrard. if we stop the booing and the statements saying he should be sold, we’ll have a real diamond in midfield so let’s cut it out.
now i’ve had my little moan i think gareth barry could possibly be a bit of a gamble. don’t get me wrong, he’s a great player and he’s english, which is a bonus, but i’m not sure if selling alonso is such a good idea. i think the robbie keane incident has put alot of us liverpool fans, myself included, off paying big money for on-off players. but barry may be quite good on the other hand as he is similar to alonso and links up quite well with gerrard in the england squad.
i think we should definitely bid for david silva as we lack proper class on the wing. riera and babel have played well but there is something missing with them which doesn’t add up. i think we should have riera in a sawp deal with them for silva.
i think we should keep voronin because we lack quality strikers and i know what everyone is thinking- he was bullshit last season. but i think the fact of a new league, new club, new way of football took some time to digest with him. it didn’t help him that he was plagued with injuries either. in case no one knows, voronin has been on fire for hertha berlin in the bundseliga this season and he has been so good that i think he deserves another crack for liverpool and a break from the fans. we should also buy lukas podolski as he is a bargain at the asking price bayern munich ask for and could give us another dimension in attack. and i’m sure he won’t be another robbie keane!
a-l-o-n-s-o - March 28th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
alonso is a much better player than barry and i think they are around the same age in anyway so y go for him unless its as cover for either him or masch wen injured…i think he has a clause in his contract when it reaches the lst yr nd if they dont qualify for champs ;eague he can buy it out
divadlo - March 28th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
I truly don’t understand the interest in Barry, Alonso is by far a better player.
Lucas can go anytime….still don’t know why Raffa contunually supports him, he’s dead weight…in fact I think he’s a bloody liability when he’s on the pitch.
reddred - March 28th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
The days when real madrid can dictate who they buy in the summer are long gone ..lol English football is much stonger now as proven by the boys when we took them apart at anfield, this summer we will be raiding the spanish league for the top players and about time to , 4-0 wankers.

All in favour of giving Lucas away say aye !
SH - March 30th, 2009 at 7:54 am
Since when was Alonso in Rafa’s B team………… dip shit. His passing is exquisite and he’s playing perfectly this season with Stevie that bit further forward. Keep him ………….. spend the money on a versatile forward who can slot in when Torres is injured.
Larry - March 30th, 2009 at 10:31 am
Surely this summer Barry will be worth £10m max, and you can’t say that £10m for Barry isn’t good business, he is a solid player. I’d be delighted to bring him in and chop Lucas, but the likelyhood of that happening is slim to none. It’s quite clear that the Masch and Alonso pairing is about as good as any, but having Barry in the mix would certainly do us no harm.
I think swapping Agger for Albiol would also be good business. Don’t get me wrong, I think Agger is a good talent and a classy centre half, but if he’s not happy playing second fiddle to Carra and Skrtel then unfortunately, I can’t see him being happy for the next few years.
In Agger and Lucas we have a centre half and a centre mid. In Barry and Albiol we would have two left backs, a right back, a centre back, two centre mids, and a left winger… seems a no brainer to me.
mark - March 30th, 2009 at 11:11 am
fair point at the end larry but i’m still not entirely sure wether selling lucas is the right move, i’d much rather send him out on loan for 6 months to a mid table team in the premier league and see what he produces but if he does fail then sure i’ll be happy for rafa to sell him.
MUSTAFA - March 30th, 2009 at 11:38 am

Rock Of Anfield AKA The Mighty Red R.O.A. - March 30th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
Bye Bye Lucas. But after the season Xabi has had, we should get him a new contract to reassure his future. As for Barry, Rafa rates him and I think he will prove to be a good player if indeed Alonso leaves. In my opinion, I would only sign Gareth if Xabi left to Real Madrid.
shk - March 30th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
Well if Rafa Rates him who are we.Also think the 6-5 qouta has alot to do with it.Dont think we need to sign Silva maybe cover for Arbeloa and Kuyt seeing that he is now a winger.

“(Arbeloa is slow and not aggressive enough), Striker (to play along Torres to take some heat off him) and a RW (needed badly, if we had a natural winger instead of asking Arbeloa to be one, we would be well ahead of the scums by now).”
I agree red, but trying to convince some people off of the back of wins against RM, Manure and AV, is tough as people soon forget the reason why we are chasing manure instead of been ahead of them.
Dont get me wrong, Arbeloa is not a bad RB, he is a good defender and can man mark almost any left winger in world football, messi etc, etc, but when we play against lesser teams where our full backs should be bombing forward and adding a bit of attacking flair, he unfortunately let’s himself down.
This is more so for Kuyt, once again great against teams that attack us, teams that look to try and win against us, then there is no better than Kuyt at defending from the front, but when it come’s to the lesser teams once again he come’s unstuck, no pace, no natural trickery, not a good crosser, etc, etc, – a right winger is a big priority as well as a striker.
And with regards to Lucas, loan him out for the next 12 years, then let’s see what he is like.!

YAS i agree with you and a few others

THE CHOSEN ONE – April 1st, 2009 at 9:58 am
Guys let me add my 2 pence worth. We have to many ordinary squad players from youth to senior team. Our first eleven is as good as anyone elses and can survive when they are fit. Lets learn from this season and rectify this.
Firstly How many players do we need on our book?
Id say cover for each position 22 plus 3 utility players thats 25 plus maybe 5 of the best youth players coming through to challenge and oust the senior players after excelling in the reserve team. Then we can sell the older squad player and use it to generate funds for top quality players in key positions to improve squad. Its not hard and this should be the stage we should be at now.
Liverpool have 42 with squad numbers and 26 players without, Thats madness!!! totaling 68. Now if these players are so good why are they not playing as much? Sir rafa has been there over 4 years now. Ok some players are showing signs and getting a game or two but shouldnt those 3 or 4 be now regular cover for those senior first team positions?
Football evolves and our system need to change and adapt to. Yes we need width but more importantly cover for gerrard and torress is essential. I`m told we will be given 30mil this summer and i`ll tell you thats more than enough for our stability.
If agger goes id replace him like for like with someone younger for 10mil which id get if I sold him.
First thing id do is drop the dead would. Pennant is of on a free saving us wages, leto we can get 5 mil for, voronin 5 mil,If I can get 12 mil for babel Id sell , hes wasted on the side, yes He has pace, can shoot, strong but cant tackle or track back, poor passer with his left and one of the least skilful in the squad-he cant dribble to save his life! yep he can learn but 12 mil or more id sell.Id keep kuyt as cover, hes a very good squad player and scores vital goals.
Take your pick who should go and ill bet you if we keep quality we`d still raise 35 mil easy on wages and maintaining crap. All we really want is the next stevie G and a striker as well as a defender, shouldnt be hard lol
1. Diego Cavalieri
2. Andrea Dossena
4. Sami Hyypia
5. Daniel Agger
8. Steven Gerrard
9. Fernando Torres
10. Andriy Voronin
11. Albert Riera
12. Fabio Aurelio
14. Xabi Alonso
15. Yossi Benayoun
16. Jermaine Pennant
17. Alvaro Arbeloa
18. Dirk Kuyt Rob Price
19. Ryan Babel Louise
20. Javier Mascherano
21. Lucas Leiva Chris
22. Emiliano Insua
23. Jamie Carragher
24. David Ngog
25. Pepe Reina
26. Jay Spearing
27. Philipp Degen
28. Damien Plessis
29. Krisztian Nemeth
30. Charles Itandje
31. Nabil El Zhar
32. Stephen Darby
34. Martin Kelly
35. Ryan Flynn
36. Steven Irwin
37. Martin Skrtel
38. Craig Lindfield
39. Nathan Eccleston
41. Martin Hansen
42. Peter Gulacsi

So now we have 35 plus 30 mil to spend totaling 60 mil for those poor at maths. Id buy Barry for sure. hes a utility player and can play centre half were he started his career and probably end it, left back ,left side of midfield, centre mid and even attacking mid, dont be surprised him playing gerrards position away from home , the boy can pass.In his final year of contract we`d get him for between 8-12 mil tops. hes worth every penny and we get to keep alonso. gives us a wooping 50 mil left to spend.
Yes id buy eto, hes in his final year contract and 15 mil is good money for hin after selling babel for 12mil. Torress can play round him and gerrard just behind.35 million or more left, yes i`d go for Glen Johnson 10- 12 mil would seal the deal leaving us with 23 mil .
This 23 mil would be our big signing. He would be a guy thats fantastic on the wing mainly right, has pace, good passer, good shooter, skillful and can also play behind the striker as well as has a good work rate. Now maybe 23 mil isnt enough, maybe id have to spend 33 mil for a player i`d consider as important as gerrard to the team. Not a problem, with barry comming in im sure we could free up another player or pay in installments. Fact is if we did it my way liverpool could compete for the next many years to come continually improving on quality.Lennon is a cheaper option but we can do better.
well just a thought who would agree with me?

Can I also piont out that the difference between us and utd are they have more quality in depth. Look at there players in defence who are not first team.
defenders wes brown , evans, gary neville. then theres the midfield nanni ,anderson , gigs , scholes etc. yes our best eleven is as good as but hey we need quality to go for every trophy and real depth to sweep the board next year. We could even sell lucas for 4-5 mil add on 6-7 mil and barry will be ours, good bizness.
i also suggest wen we play next season 2 out of our subs should be youth or kids coming through, when we are winning then we bring them on or games in europe when we have done already the damage away from home we can use them. These guys need experience and its the way forward.
and if they improve then they force there way into the team helping us by selling of the older player they have replaced to generate funds for buying quality players in weaker positions. I call this continuous improvement.
Come on you Real Reds !!!!

That will be Rafa’s plan somewhere down the line. He stated besides the current youth players like Pacheco and Nemeth, the rest has been poor. Thats why he wants control over the youth policy. He doesn’t want to bring all his talent out of the youth since he wants them there to help new youths to develop first and get more youth trophies and a winning mentality and keep the cycle going.

Who says if we get Barry, Xabi Alonso Must leave. Isn’t it better to keep the 2. Last year when everyone asked if Barry is used to replace Alonso. Alonso said why can’t he and Barry play, they are different players and if he was kept out of the first team, he’d work hard to get his place back.

If we buy a new stricker and winger (especially if there young) our reserves will be cash down the drain. Elzhar , Spearing, Nemeth, Pachecco, Flora, Leto.
bigrafa - April 5th, 2009 at 6:14 pm
Manu’s reserve stricker got the winning goal against Villa. Maybe Nemeth could of done something similar against Fulham, Stoke, Hull and Westham. Just a thought.

barry wouldnt add any new dimensions to our squad! i would rather keep alonso, get rid of lucas and buy modric from tottenham… so you would have gerrard and modric attacking from midfield with xabi alonso sitting behind, orchestrating the play. Also, we desperately need one new winger for each side! ashley young is unrealistic target but maybe we can go for someone like guitarrez from newcastle or maybe agbonlahor, or dos santos from tottenham. these are targets for if we had a limited transfer budget so imagine if we had a BIG budget… ibrahimovic?…Tevez (if utd dont sign him)?… or, pushing the boat out, thierri henry?? we have the best midfield in the world, now we just need to link some world class players onto that!!!

…. this is to THE CHOSE ONE…. the difference between us and utd is not quality in depth, its matchwinners!!! They have not been playing like premier league winners for months now but people like ronaldo, rooney, giggs and tevez have come up with vital goals at critical times. imagine if we had rooney or ronaldo when we drew with west ham, stoke and all the other time we wasted points. we would be MIIIILES ahead of them!!! imagine our team now but instead of kuyt and riera, we had giggs and tevez!!! scary isnt it, how close we are to being better than utd?!!!

Rafa Jus wants barry

he’s like stevie G ina way
when the team is down
he grabs the game by the scruff of its neck and turns it around
people might not notice it
but he wins the ball
then passes in the right area
so ok he might no put in 30 yard screamers like Stevie
But hes quality
