Good list piece this, of the top ten players who don’t get enough credit
Darren Fletcher (Man United)
Often considered to be a player who was simply out of place in the star studded United team, over the past 18 months the Scot has got better and better. Whereas previously he was getting a place in the starting eleven due to injury or poor form of others the 24 year old now finds himself a regular in the midfield.Carlton Cole (West Ham)
After early promise when he first got his chance at Stamford Bridge Carlton Cole’s career seemed to be stagnating somewhat, but a move to Upton Park seems to have done the trick. For too long considered to be a donkey the strong forward is beginning to add goalscoring to his resume and you would be hard placed to find a more determined customer.Ryan Nelsen (Blackburn Rovers)
Another tough customer who goes about his game with a determined simplicity that makes many fail to see the Kiwi’s ability to keep the best strikers at bay. Regularly cited as a player that forwards most despise to play up against and the kind of player that as a fan you can fully expect 100% from week in week out. (timeaddedon.com)

Some good names on here but there were loads of others we came up with when we came to think of it. Who would you like to see on such a list? Or are there indeed any that made it who didn’t seem worthy of any adulation whatsoever?

The Times have followed on with the third in their series of “Greatest Players” lists with a Toffee related one, and it has some shockers. Bald goon Tommy Gravesen somehow manages to get his foot in the door, Anders Limpar and Wayne Rooney both slide in above Tim Cahill, and somehow Tony Cottee – viewed by many Evertonians as being pretty cacktastic – gets in too. Notably absent are Duncan McKenzie, Peter Beardsley, Derek Mountfield, and Paul Bracewell. Despite all these mistakes, it’s actually a pretty good list. I won’t tell you who made it to the top spot – but then again – if you’re a true Evertonian you should know anyway!?!
So what do you think of this list of Goodison Greats – good or gash?
These guys are clearly used to the odd swear word from the terraces!

If he puts pen to paper on this deal then it would be fantastic news for the Anfield side, at least until Rafa heads for Mars.

Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti is apparently engineering a transfer swoop that is surely doomed to failure!
Ac Milan are lining up a £20million bid to snatch centre-back Nemanja Vidic fromManchester United.
In the countdown to United’s Champions League clash with Milan’s city rivals Inter on Wednesday, it is being claimed in Italy that the Serbia defender has already made a secret visit to the city where he had dinner with Rossoneri legend Paolo Maldini. That meeting is alleged to have taken place just days before United played Inter in the first leg of their European clash last month. It is being suggested that one of the other diners was a leading agent.
Ferguson bought Vidic from Spartak Moscow for £7m three years ago. Since then, he and Rio Ferdinand have formed a formidable partnership around which United’s recent phenomenal success has been built.
Vidic, 27, has arguably been United’s star performer this season as they have opened up a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League and he is widely being tipped for the player-of-the-year award.
While transfer speculation surrounding the Serb will enrage Sir Alex Ferguson on the eve of United’s biggest game of the season, the manager’s mood is unlikely to be improved by interest in another centre-half, 21-year-old Jonny Evans, who could cost up to £10m. (Mail on Sunday)
So lets think about this for a second. Clearly Carlo needs replacements, especially as he now sees that bringing in Senderos on loan was a pretty poor move (the San Siro side have invariable struggled when the Swiss international has started), but i think he must be in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks he can tempt either of these two to join the club or indeed if he thinks that Sir Alex would even entertain the notion of breaking up his fantastic defence. Still at least Mr. Ancelotti is setting his standards very high and the Milan club is beginning to get back towards the top of Serie A and if they achieve a Champions League finish in the table then that of course will help the Italian giants to secure some big names to replace the irreplacable.
