Liverpool to land £10m midfielder and Alonso set to leave!
by Mr Comfort on April 30th, 2009 47 commentsCould this PSG man be heading for Merseyside and not north London?
Long-term Arsenal transfer target Lorik Cana is set join Liverpool for £10m.
When the 25-year-old Albania international midfielder was at PSG Arsenal wanted him, but the Gunners’ interest may have cooled on hearing Marseilles asking price of £10m.
Liverpool are set to fund their purchase by selling Xabi Alonso for a similar amount to Juventus. (fansfc.com)
Yes the source above has decided to not source their own material so it could all be made up but Cana is a decent player, however i think it is highly unlikely that Rafa would consider selling Xabi. Yes Benitez entertained the notion of selling the Spanish midfielder last summer but he would have been impressed by the consistency of the former Sociedad man so i expect the cultured Spaniard to stay.
What do Liverpool fans think of this Albanian? Is he better than what is already sitting on the bench at Anfield?

Jesus, can ye try and come up with a story that makes sense??? A Spanish and CL European cup winner is to be sold and in his place we buy another Albanian like Lucas????
Come on, come up with something logical, for f_ck sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To Steve McMahon
I think that was the point of this piece, it says that the original story is a not realistic, so you basically agree with Mr Comfort

a wouldent mind seeing him come in like but for 10 million my expectations will be pretty high, its not a colossal amount but whith the econamy the way it is every penny counts this summer more than ever
and thers no way Xabi’s going aaaanywere
Dave in Ireland - April 30th, 2009 at 7:11 pm
Welcome back to us Mr. Comfort ! Bad and all as some of your ravings are we still miss them !! By the way , Alonso is going nowhere , but how about two Johnsons . One from Portsmouth and one from Man City , that would be good !
Georgiiee - May 1st, 2009 at 7:29 am
please help me clear this up
why would we wanna sell alonso when he is in such great form
do u think without him, barry could help us challenge for the titlee !!
Donavan Ried - May 1st, 2009 at 11:55 am
The only way that we should be looking to sell someone like Alonso is if the player coming in can give us everthing he can and more’or he is everything Alonso is but younger.
Josh - May 1st, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Hey Guys
Got a bit of news about what will happen at Liverpool in the summer. Alonso will be leaving to Juventus for 19m and Barry will be bought in with that money.
Rafa will then have money to spend of the owners(wait and see who they are)
Silva
Bale
Johnson
Kerrison
They are all on Rafas list
jimmy carter - May 1st, 2009 at 4:28 pm
alonso 4 sale errm boring story that I wish would just be stuck up the arse of those who contribute to this shite.
hello all its been a long time since any new chat…& boy what an upturn in fortunes…but 4 those who know my chat & comments still the rafa fan most r…but hey that is the beauty of the game we love & the team we support whatever the result.
alonso has without doubt been one of most consistent players this season…and at times has took his undoubtless talent to another level…if he could only add the goals to that armoury then wow what he could be?
four games to go 2nd place hopefully cemented but hey still up for grabs…but its nice to dream.
as for the reasons why are upturn maybe the rafa man has realised that at times you have to move forward at times quicker & more decisive …but again he seems to have relied on the gerrard behind formula behind a unfit torres who has still at times looked sublime..but for other players some have really shown their quality.
whos for the chop…interesting
hyppia ( what a servant one of the best buys this club has ever had & a gem of a player..im sure all fans will wish him well in what ever he chooses to do next)
pennent( unfortunately a waste of fucking space… & money hopefully good ridance)
dossenna( extremely poor and a certain money loss on this cock..but he scored against the Real & man Poo what a laugh)
vorinon(pony tail says it all)
& possibly babel ( two years of wasted talent…more interested in making music off the field than on it)
possible buys
????????????????????????????????????
a summer of endless gossip…& probaly miss outs as always
would like Micah richards thsi kid is class just needs better players and a big club 2 play 4.
Barry ( good solid league player but were he would fit in thats the ? but rafa seems to fancy the left arse cheek of this fella)
a winger right side…who thats the burning ?
silva seems the rumour but would he survive? skillful enough similair to garcia…but better
a striker maybe cruz at blackburn…this lad can net & hold the ball up well..but looks lazy…maybe tevez?
anyway nearly finished…have a good bank hols & hopefully & gr8 weekend of red football starting at boro 2moz & then Mon when hopefully another nail is hammered in the geordie coffin.
terrys ma loves the scouse cock!

Hey all, I’d almost given up on visiting this site, and what a crap return. ‘We might sell Alonso’ blah be blah bull shit.
I’m interested in the who to sign debate though, nothing new but always intreaging.
I for one am only intersted in players with undoubted quality. I cannot stand another summer of chasing half class players. Last year we waisted two months trying to sign an average midfielder and all our budget on an average striker. How much of this was Rafa’s fault? Well I suppose we’ll find out soon enough but this year we have to sign quality.
Imagine if last summer’s efforts were focused on signing a quality striker, say Villa or Benzema, Torres wouldn’t of been missed, Babel could of carried on developing on the left and the 7m waisted on Dossena could of gone to a better cause like lung cancer research.
Of all the signings last year only Riera has been a success. And it was pointless getting him because Babel would now be imense if given his chance, probably. Who knows.
We have been brilliant this year though. More than I could of hoped for, now all we need is to maintain and develop.
The Big I Am - May 1st, 2009 at 10:58 pm
jimmy carter that post was ellish
a pretty much agree with it all but a wouldent sell babel tho its Rafas fault hes not living up to his potential, if anything he should be loaned out to a club that hell get every game! only minutes on the pitch can make this fella come good
but when clearly babel needed to come on at times over the season rafa will bring on el zhar or N’gog decent youngsters definatly but not when we need a late goal.
Steve McMahon !!!! i just wonderd what youre thoughts were on how rafa has handled us in the closing end of the season ? i know ure not his biggest fan lol
Donavan Ried - May 1st, 2009 at 11:45 pm
Barry would be a step side ways not forward. Even if we sell Alonso there are better than barry out there, in fact we have one aready, J.Spearing. Use the £19m for alonso, and the £4m for Voronin, and the money for Lucas and anyone else (Agger if he goes) and buy Carlos Tevez, simple as
slicky4 - May 2nd, 2009 at 3:33 am
ALONSO for sale???? u having a laugh. this season he’s been our most consistant player….rumours at the start of the season were saying he was going…me personally, didnt want a player of his quality to go….yeah we have “THE MAN OF STEEL” MASCHERANO….but together we have a stable quality midfield with STEVIE G given freedom….this season we have proven we can compete with the very best…if we finish with nothing then fair enough(the draws at home didn’t help)….BUT we are improving, little by little…yet im sick of hearing bout , “how RAFA isn’t good enough”, “KUYT should be sold”, “LUCAS is a disgrace”…..etc etc….
YOU build a squad to compete at the very highest level. AGGER is due to sign a new deal, the kids that are coming through will develop and be stars…RAFA is very shrewd…how many of you out there called ARBELOA & AURELIO???? i know i did….but i trust them now…like i do with INSUA(which i raved about )…
we need to add to the squad not disband it…..RIERA has been a good buy, DEGEN has been unlucky with injuries, but i know he’s more than capable of covering ARBELOA….DOSENNA will improve(you don’t become ITALY’S 1st choice without some pedigree)…….
BENAYOUN & BABEL are more than capable of coming in and doin a job… but i think BABEL needs a quiet word to bring out the spark in him…….N’GOG will improve with experience…..some players are like that….INSUA took to it like a duck to water, LUCAS is still finding his feet, but will come good….
LIKE I SAID we need to add to the squad……. Y.N.W.A

slicky4 sounds like an exotic fish dinner from scunthorpe!
point 1 – sick of hearing the how rafa isnt good enough interesting because i am not in his corner have never been like many others this season more than ever the frustrations have been more than ever…but the season has nearly ended on a high …despite the knowledge of which puzzles me greatly is that this yr the league has been there for the taking & being honest that is what has pissed me off and im sure others! rafa has not gambled enough…& his buys of last year and several others have been dreadful.
this needs to be addressed. QUAILITY over QUANTITY – this is the way forward.
as for your degen shout…stop sniffing glue mate fucking dreadful…get rid now as for arbeloa awful….how many times as this cockhead been found out this season so many goals have been conceded down his side he is the weakest link…what people see in him is beyond me. please mate do not trust this guy how many teams would he get in NONE a big fat NONE!
as 4 babel talent maybe but lazy…uninterested …and at times far to casual…but if this kid was playing under wenger we would be all going wow. Rafa is just not the right manager for him….so lets get rid now whilst we can still get monies for him…because it will not change.
Lucas far to slow & clumsy for this league…again sacrifice because we have a much better player in Spearing surely one for the future….
left back in Insua this kid is the future …so agree there but for the summer endless gossip, missing out on players again, fergie gloating…& weekends shopping with the wife & kid soon 2 be 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cant wait.
bob bolders the one for me!

right winger, right back and second striker are need of liverpool but don’t know why we want player at center mid and replace world class with unknown player who may be highly rated n cann’t even play at england. please some world class scout goes to liverpool as most of signing of rafa were failure as in five years he didn’t has his first eleven … good luck to rafa n liverpool they need to win all remaining fixture this season to become second as lucky manU may not loose one single game … in next season we had to compete win arsenal also they looks brilliant next season don’t know how many more years we need to wait for Premiere league title … rafa had not win anything for three years if he failed this season he sud get fired and put Kenny Daglish incharge only he knows how to win title with reds

slicky4 – May 2nd, 2009 at 3:33 am …….”LIKE I SAID we need to add to the squad” …Yes add to the squad,so poeple can again say Liverpool have no money to spend in next years transfer window…. We already have the biggest squad in the Premier League and a lot of them are average, as jimmycarterwingwizard put it it needs to be QUAILITY over QUANTITY – this is the way forward, until we get that righ we will always be behind Man utd, and Chelsea, and I don’t mean the odd times we beat them here and there
Scott - May 3rd, 2009 at 2:14 am
Agree with Dave from Ireland!
Would love to see both Glen Johnson and either Michael Johnson or Marek Hamsik at Liverpool with Lucas sold.
More realistic options and also buying youth. Sven Goran Eriksson always said that Michael Johnson reminded him of a young Steven Gerrard and I think Newcastle tried to buy him over the summer for around 8mill. Better option then Gareth Barry and another English player in case the 6+5 rule is enforced.
Scott - May 3rd, 2009 at 2:18 am
Liverpool HAVE to get rid of the following:
Itandje
Diego
Degen
Hyypia
Dossena
Lucas
Leto
Voronin.
Would love us to buy a young Goalkeeper like Kasper Schmeichel or Joe Hart and, why aren’t we being linked with Bastien Schweinstiger?! Isn’t he a free agent in the summer? And, out of all the wingers in Europe, I think he has the physical attributes to really make it in England.
mark - May 3rd, 2009 at 4:09 am
to josh- rafa has come out and said he will not sell any of his first team players, in my understanding alonso is exactly that, so why would he then go against what he’s said and sell alonso????? please explain
mark - May 3rd, 2009 at 4:12 am
and to scott- i think schweinsteiger signed a new contract in the summer mate.
slicky4 - May 3rd, 2009 at 4:49 am
OK OK so i got a bit of a drubbing from my last post, freedom of speech and that…hahahahaha….i accept the points of other people and stand corrected….BUT RAFA is the man to take us forward, yeah there are times you question the team selection, the subs….but we don’t have his job.
TRANSFERS…..Agger’s signed a new deal thank god….Skrtel & Agger are our future center backs…PLAYERS we should at least enquire about…..HERNANES, HAMSIK thats 2 young central midfielders for the future…JESUS NAVAS of Sevilla, a quick skillfull right winger, i’ll also include LENNON. JOHNSON of Portsmouth(rumour has it he’ll be ours in the summer)…..striker wise id love to see VILLA…but do we have the cash????

Hi There Guys …. all interesting theories , I will tell this though, Insua is not one for the future , I said this months ago after watching him being taken to the cleaners in a reserve game against Newcastle . So i still think that a left back is required ( Gareth Barry ) , plus the 2 Johnsons Glen and Michael . Not trying to xenophobic but I believe that the more British isles players we have the greater the will to dig in and win is .
Kudgi - May 4th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
I hear rumours that Mascherano’s possibly on his way out this summer as his family aren’t happy in England. If he were to leave, then i think he would be such a massive loss! I don’t believe Alonso will go because like a few o u guys have said, he has been our most consistant player this season. Lucas Leiva will improve! I know he aint been good up till now but i can see a bit of improvement since the Manchester U game. He just lacks confidence. I think most of the signigs last season were not all Rafa’s decision and now that he has penned a new deal then i think that will change so the signings this summer and whatever departures we have will be alot more his choice than before. I have a great amount of confidence in Rafa!
dave in ireland - May 4th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Hey Kudgi , do you think if we sold a load of dross and brought Tevez to the club it could alleviate Mascheranos’ home sickness !

thanks and best wishes to big sami hyypia red legend.. now forget tevez (manc scum) aguero, johnson and johnson, barry(unfortunately) would do me.get rid of lucas, riera, babel, itandje(muppet),dossena and get vorinon and his hair off the books

Alonso leaving lfc.
Lol at that, if alonso goes i wil hunt rafa down and use your imagination for what i would do to him
9torres - May 5th, 2009 at 9:15 am
Not going to happen, if we were to buy Barry or Cana, it would not be at the expense of Alonso this has already been mentioned by Ballague. More likely Alonso is kept, Lucas is sold and Spearing is used as Lucas was this season, giving him some vital experience before the ridiculous rule of having four English players in the starting XI is brought in for the 10/11 season.
9torres - May 5th, 2009 at 9:15 am

Steve McMahon !!!! i just wonderd what youre thoughts were on how rafa has handled us in the closing end of the season ? i know ure not his biggest fan lol
Good afternoon, The Big I am, Donavan, 9torres, JCWZ, and to all,
Havent really posted here for a while, nothing really new to post about, anyway I dope that ye are all keeping well, with regards to my thoughts on the handling of LFC by king Raffa???
Well the first thing I have to say is, why did he take the shackles off so late in the season??? While all is well and good at the moment, and most people would not agree with me having a go at our leader with our current form, my view quickly goes back to any of the drawn game’s where 3 points and not just 1 were there for the taking, and it really bugs me that we may end up just short for one simple reason, “far too negative for far too long” this season.
It’s just a bitch to think we have come soo close and with a little more ambition, a little more attack minded, a little more focus and we could of been league champions already. F_cking annoying in a nut shell.
Anyway we are still in with a small shout, a really small shout, firstly we are banking on the wanna be harlem globetrotters (Man City) to try and do us a favour this weekend and hopefully the Arsenwipes can also do us a favour for manures second last game of the season, we live in hope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With regards to the big Finn, what a servant, what a pro, what a purchase. He was great for us, scored many a vital goal and made many a vital tackle, best of luck to the big finn.
With regards to my views on the summer , go back to this post, (jimmycarterwingwizard – May 2nd, 2009 at 4:18 pm ) I find it hard to do anything else but agree.
nialld09 - May 5th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
liverpool would be stupid to sell alonso if you are a supporter you can say that he has been one of if not the best this season. spearing can get vital experience needed in cups and ;ate subs but lucas is starting to understand the league and is good potential for the future as with spreaing. liverpool do not need downing cana we have a great midfield not needed these players all needed is a second striker to play with torres to finish this magnificent team off.
hyypia has to go hes not playing no more hes been a great attribute and all my best wishes in the future hopefully we will see him sat next to rafa one soon day excellent player
Donavan Ried - May 5th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
Hi Steve good to hear from you again,……Steve McMahon – May 5th, 2009 at 1:32 pm …….”anyway I dope that ye are all keeping well”,,,, Was that a little slip from you there mate??…LOL… Yes, Have too agree with what you said. The first Aston Villa game of the season springs to mind,. How and supporter can watch that game and not believe that the managers tatics were not at fault is beyond me…. any two wins would have us level with Man Utd…. And for anyone out there who blames it on the fact Rafa was force to have Robbie Keane when he really did not want him, I say to you this. Rafa picks the team and he did not have to play Keane, did he!
Anonymous - May 5th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
no donavan but keane didn’t have to play like a donkeys arse, did he.lol
Steve McMahon - May 6th, 2009 at 8:59 am
Morning all, Donavan, yes I did slip with the “dope that ye are all keeping well”.
With regards to the Keane issue, my point of view is simple,
1 Keane does not equal 1 Torres
Keane + Kuyt or Ngog or Nemeth, combined might of been a substitute for the absence of Torres, but it was so obvious that none of these lads have the ability to replace Torres on their own, but because of this system of playing 1 up front, our leader did not have the flexibility to adapt to the loss of Torres by changing the system to suit the players available. Simple as that.
Anonymous – May 5th, 2009 at 11:03
“no donavan but keane didn’t have to play like a donkeys arse, did he.lol”
Correct Anonymous, but that excuse might work for 1 or at a strecth even 2 games, but not a repeated no of games, do you not think that Raffa could of done something about the constantly piss poor Mr Keane???
Did Raffa have to leave this lad on his own up front??????
Ans, no! he didn’t, but he did , why?, f_ck knows.
That’s the point, most people could see Keane wasn’t going to cut it on his own up front, so the million dollar question is, why the f_ck did our leader play him on his own up front?.
Couple that question with the other question of why did he constantly play 4 def + 2 dfm with only 1 up front when we played teams with 11 men parked in their own half??????? which accounts for nearly all of our drawn games by the way.
Any ideas????????
Xander - May 6th, 2009 at 9:24 am
-anonymous
U make a good point. Back a spurs keane had berbatov next to him and keane did good but without a second striker keane just dont go to the show. Why rafa didnt put a striker upfront with him when he saw that keane sucked alone only shit can gues. I like rafa but that was just a BAD mistake. Cant blame keane.
Anonymous - May 7th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
keane had at least five clear chances in all the games he played and couldn’t score, why is it because he played up front on his own no its because he couldn’t handle the pressure of playing for a top club anyway enough about keane who do yous think rafa could get that would be able to handle the pressure and take his chances when he gets a game
Steve McMahon - May 7th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
For me it’s simple, in order to play the 4 2 3 1 system, we need a striker of the quality of Torres,
e.g.
Aguero,
Villa,
Tevez
Benzima,
etc, etc, etc, basically big money players,
but if we could just move away from the 1 striker syndrome for a minute and imagined that we had 2 strikers, then we needn’t go mad spending the big bucks on just a striker because as much as we need a striker my biggest issue is that when Stevie G is injured we are fucked. We can get away with it for x amount of games but to have S G out for 10 or so games in a row would spell big trouble, so for me a CAM is just as important as a striker, possible options? not really sure but 2 names spring to mind, Van Der Vart from RM who seems out of favour at RM at the moment and Diogo from W B in the Bundesliga.
Add a right back to the list as well as I personally dont have any real faith in Arbeloa.
slicky4 - May 8th, 2009 at 12:37 am
STEVE McMAHON May 7th 2009(obviously) your comment about a cover for Stevie G is justified, you mentioned Rafael Van Der Vaart of Real Madrid and Diego Ribas of Werder Bremmen, both quality players. Was especially impressed by Diego tonight in the UEFA semi final, good on the ball, fiery and skillfull. Yeah unfortunately his game took a knock after the booking. As for Rafael VDV yeah a big name, but ive been more impressed by Wesley Sneijder, in the games ive seen……
TO THE POINT tho…if we got these players would they be prepared to play 2nd fiddle to Stevie G, or be in and out of the side depending on formations and tactics????? ALONSO & MASCHERANO are brilliant together, compliment each other…When Mascherano was bought I thought Alonso would struggle to get in the team. With the tactics tho this season, i think either one of them is missed when not in the side, they both do the dirty work breaking up play, Xabi’s more creative, Javier’s like a bull in a china shop bursting forward with the ball….LUCAS isn’t in the same creed of either of these players….
I don’t think a big name CAM would come to play bit parts, yeah i know the cover would be ideal, but maybe upcoming names like Hernanes or Hamsik, would maybe jump at the chance to play under Stevie G, they are both making names for themselves in their respected teams……..Its just a thought……..GLEN JOHNSON for right back…….

what do yous think about hulk, id like to see him in a liverpool shirt.
Lfc Fan - May 11th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
Why should we buy central midfield players when we already have world class quality there. Alonso and Mascherano two amazing players who play great toghether. Gerrard is brilliant behind Torres but sometimes it shows that Torres needs some help up the front. In my oppion we need to strengthen the wings, Kuyt and Riera are good players but Kuyt can never really make an attacking impact by himself and Riera is inconsistent.
