Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is lining up a summer bid to bring Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari back to the Premier League – with Jermaine Jenas heading in the opposite direction. Redknapp’s summer targets also include Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones, Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing and Charlton wonderkid Jonjo Shelvey.

Harry Redknapp likes to spend money and perhaps more importantly likes to put his own stamp on a club by removing players and replacing them with his own men. Having already brought in five big name signings in January the former West Ham and Pompey boss has seen his side continue it’s winning ways and now he will be looking to bring the club on another step in the right direction and in order to do so it appears he will be looking to spend money, lots of it!
So lets look at each of these potential signings in depth. Sulley Muntari is a good ball winner in midfield with a good burst of pace with many tricks in the bag to help unlock defences. I was a little surprised when Jose Mourinho came in for him but he has proved a good signing for the surely soon to be crowned Italian champions for the fourth straight season. I would be surprised if the Ghanaian chose to turn his back on Champions League football and even though Spurs are a rejuvenated side it would still represent a step downwards so i find it unlikely that a swap deal would go through. Jenas has improved a great deal under Harry and he may not be so keen on leaving for the San Siro given he would probably be not be a first choice starter.
Stewart Downing and Kenwyne Jones are perennial Redknapp targets and two players who in my view do not offer an improvement to the north London club on what they already possess on top of which both clubs seem to be demanding inflated prices for their players. Jonjo Shelvey has been one of the highlights of what has otherwise been a very bleak season for a Charlton side heading to League One. The 17 year old has impressed many with his mature performances and it does seem fairly likely he will leave the financially challenged Addicks and of the players listed by this source i fancy this one the most likely.
Jenas/Muntari swap deal: Very unlikely
Shelvey: A distinct possibility.
