Get ready. The all new rumour reporting article system is in full effect!
As well as the £18m he expects from Alonso’s exit, Rafa has sold Jack Hobbs to Leicester for around £1m, while others certain to go are Ryan Babel, Andrea Dossena plus on-loan duo Andriy Voronin and Sebastian Leto.
Benitez also believes he will get more cash by slashing the wage bill, with big earner Jermaine Pennant set to quit Merseyside for Valencia on a Bosman.
Keeper Charles Itandje is also being forced out of the club for disciplinary reasons, while Swiss defender Philipp Degen has been a disastrous signing.
Albert Riera is also vulnerable as Benitez is considering a £12m swoop for Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing.

There is always as tendency with some sources getting carried away with a story in order to maximise shock value and incite general hysteria. This is just such a case. Of the nine Liverpool players mentioned in this story i think that it’s a fair bet that Voronin/Leto/Pennant and Itandje are certs to leave, but the others i am not so sure are on their way to an Anfield exit.
Dossena has improved as the season has worn on and i don’t see Rafa simply turning his back on the Italian after one lackluster season. Degen has barely played a game due to a series of injuries so again it would be harsh if he was flung onto the scrapheap, yes he was a strange signing but if Benitez saw something in him in the first place then surely he must be given a decent chance? Ryan Babel will stick around i think as well. The Dutchman has immense potential and as long as the former Ajax man is happy with being a squad player until he is able to put in a run of good performances then he will stay.
Also the idea that Riera would be offloaded is absurd. He has been a success at the club and will surely not be sold to make way for the hugely overrated Downing. The last player on this seemingly limitless list is Xabi Alonso and his career does in some ways hang in the balance. For as long as Rafa attempts to secure Aston Villa‘s Gareth Barry the Spanish international’s career at the club is precarious. Hopefully the gaffer will see sense and realise that Xabi has far more to offer than the Villa man.
Nine to leave Liverpool in the summer: Four for sure but the other five still have a future on Merseyside.
